[QUOTE="LegatoSkyheart"]

dude if I wanted to waste $500 on something awesome I'd waste it on that nice Laptop that Adrian just showed, What IS that?

LegatoSkyheart

Thinkpad X220. Altough it's more like 1000$ or more depending on configuration. Worth it though, because you're essentially getting both laptop and tablet in one device and both of those in forms that are suited for even the most demanding professional work. I love this series because it essentialy provides everything I need in one form factor. I'm a journalist and the ability to first type (which is insanely good on Thinkpads, nothing comes close to them in this area) and then just flip the screen, pull off the pen and start editing (somehow human brain sees more errors and more clearly when put into paper-like format) is pure magic.

There are options without tablet screen that go below 1000 though.

Oh wow, That actually sounds like something I need in the future. too much money though. :(

Well..to be honest, you don't need the latest and greatest :) X200 tablets go for like 500-700 dollars now in mint condition (often still in the box) and the price is likely to drop heavily when x220 go to the market.

I bought my Ipad for computer like access not games.

3DS IS for games!

Slimmin360

The 3DS ? the 3DS doesn't have half the hardware the IPAD 2 has, and i'd much rather pay between $1.99 and $9.99 for games than $39.99 for 3DS games.

The 3DS? No, not yet. You cannot compare to a new piece of gaming hardware to a device that runs mostly off freeware. Give the 3DS some time.

Well look i don't want to turn this into yet another MAC vs PC debate because it's not, it's an IPAD 2 vs 3DS and NGP debate, and since the hardware of the IPAD 2 beats 3DS and NGP, with IPAD 2 offering a much larger screen on top of it's gyroscopic and touch controls, i just think dev's will be making games for IPAD 2 every bit as much as they do for 3DS and NGP if not more. Since the app store is a much more busier mass market place for sales than retail stores are, there are over 65,000 apps on the app store for IPOD, IPHONE and IPAD so what developer doesn't want a piece of that. Not to mention with most games on the app store costing $9.99 and less, thats where the bargain hunters are going to go for games, whether it's for there IPOD, IPHONE or IPAD, paying $29.99 to $39.99 for a new 3DS or NGP game just no longer makes any sense.

Plenty of devs don't want a piece of that. Precisely because users like you expect to pay max 9 dollars for the game (and plenty of appstore users complain heavily even about that price). You can't make anything but short cheap games for that price. Which is why the few deeper and longer games in appstore are mostly ports from other platforms, not something made for iPad itself.

3DS's strenght will be in japanese devs and I don't see most of them bothering with appstore.

I didn't even know that the ipad was considered a portable tbh. It can't really fit in your pocket unless you are wearing Jnco jeans, and it's not much smaller than netbooks or smaller notebooks, so if we're counting those then it's not even close.

Oh really IPAD or IPHONE games are mostly short, cheap games ? I have an IPAD game called Aralon: Sword and Shadow, it's a western RPG style game and the main quest by itself without the hundreds of side quests is 30 hours long.

So much for your theory, oh, and it's not the only one, the Dungeon Hunter games can be 20 plus hours as well, and since the largest capacity IPAD 2 has a 64GB hard drive, well that just means they could make games 2 to 4gb's big and they would run just fine.

So try thinking of another con for the IPAD 2 because that theory of yours bombed.

Not really. 20hours is little for Diablo clone. . And Aralon looks like crap, plays like crap and is pretty short for a game with such low production values.

Once again, you've just proved normal devs don't have much to look forward to in Appstore.
Appstore has been a huge success for over two years already and yet majority of handheld-centric devs avoid it. So I wonder why do you assume it will change in the future?

Untill you learn to pay 20 dollars and more for quality mobile software nothing will change and anything new with real depth will be a rare occurence on Appstore.

Notice how he said mostly as in not everyone but most of them you listed 2 games out of hundreds. You did not counter his point you at all if anything you backed up his point games like that are the exception not the norm.

I can buy a decent gaming PC for the price of an ipad. Besides better graphics, what does the ipod have that the DS doesn't? A large library of genres to choose from that are full lenght and will provide hundreds of hours of gaming fun?

You're telling me you spent $700- $900 on an iPod Touch JUMBO XL???

LegatoSkyheart

Check again the IPAD 2 has superior hardware wise guy.

Ooooo superior in Hardware for what?

Internet?

Laptop and Desktops > iPad 2

Games?

Laptop and Desktops > iPad 2 or heck anything PS3, 360, or Wii > iPad 2

Music?

Laptop and Desktops

Apps?

really?

Movies?

Laptop??

Seriously Why get an iPad 2???

Relax man. For its size and functionality, it's an excellent device. It's more portable than a laptop, and it's not as crammed as a smart phone... obviously that's what it's going for. It's not trying to replace other types of PC products.

I really don't see the point in talking down on others for purchasing/enjoying an ipad.

Whoa you gave a hanful of examples well done, still doesnt deter from the fact that Adrian is right, also, an example of why the iPad is far from the best portable device. the other tablets linked here with detachable keyboards (as an option coz touch screen is crap for games) THEY RUN WINDOWS 7. thats right, the entire PC library on a tablet device. smokes the pathetic app store crap on iPad 2.

I've had my IPAD 2 just over a week and bought over 30 games for it thus far, such as Infinity Blade, Dungeon Hunter 1 & 2, Hero of Sparta 1 & 2, Real Racing 2, NOVA 1 & 2 and many more phenomenal titles, there are some with graphics that are average, then are those with such graphics that it seems as if your holding a portable 360 or PS3 in your hands.

I love the touch screen and gyroscopic controls, and there completely changeable and adjustable in almost every title, and no matter which game i was playing it has yet to freeze or crash on me, it is phenomenal, and it's already made me regret wasting my money all these years on consoles and other portables....i love my IPAD 2.

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"]

I don't recall EVER seeing people lined up for over a month in a row outside retail stores like Target, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart, for Laptops, or any other Tablet for that matter, but here we are nearly a month later, and the mere whisper that any of those stores or the Apple stores are getting in some IPAD 2's and people are lined up hours before opening to try and get there hands on one. Umm nope don't recall any PC device like a computer, tablet or otherwise getting that kind of attention...

Slimmin360

Maybe because pc users don't follow the cult mentality Apple fans seems to have developed? Somehow they still buy volumes of their hardware that makes iPads look silly in comparision and yet there are no lines. I guess that's because they treat their computers like they should - as tools, not extensions of your own soul.

Uh no, sorry i hate to break it to you, but the reason is because PC devices are pure crap, they will never be as innovative, user friendly or reliable as Apple devices, and the sooner you realize that the happier you'll be.

On laptop reliability issue, ASUS, Toshiba and Sony says hi. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2009/11/laptop-reliability-study-asus-and-toshiba-come-out-on-top/

My Dell laptop can run unmodified MacOS X 10.6+MS Office 2011 Mac(via my MS Technet sub), I don't see any GUI advantage over Windows 7.

PS; I have purchased retail MacOS X 10.6.

All i know is i have an IPad and i would never buy one to game on. Ive had mine for quite sometime and i havent even considered purchasing a game for it.

Slimmin360

Yeah you have an IPAD not an IPAD 2, huge hardware difference between the two, which is why i purposely waited, instead of buying an IPAD, i knew Apple would release a more powerful successor in roughly a years time. Oh and by the way, answer me this, if you can play Music and DVD's and Blu-ray movies on your consoles why can't you play games on an IPAD, they all claim to be multimedia devices so why not ?

should have waited til october...rumor is that IPAD 3 is hitting then...hahahaha, no joke

Although I agree that getting an iPad specifically for gaming is silly, I find it so stupid that all you tech elitists would suggest that people would only buy an iPad if they're brainwashed. If a person buys a product because they are interested in what said product has to offer and they end up satisfied with their purchase, then what is wrong with that? Like I said before, I have a laptop, but ever since I bought my IPad my laptop has collected dust. I most certainly wasn't brainwashed. I know all too well what a PC has to offer, but the iPad is the very product I hoped and wanted it to be. My desktop fulfills all my PC needs.

Sorry but laptops are on there way out, everyone is blown away by these new tablets and the IPAD name is leading the way.

As long as they are running a cell phone O.S, tablets will NEVER overtake laptops

Well alot of people still need to use productivity software on the go so laptops will be around for a long time. I do believe that tablets have made netbooks pretty useless.

Only if they play on marketing hype well enough.

Doesnt any Windows 7 tablet have a library of a million older PC games, some of the best of all time like Baldur Gate, Heroes 3, Diablo 1-2, adventures etc ?

If you don't know what you're taking about, it's best not to reply at all. I mean, this doesn't even make sense.

So my experience with my IPad, my laptop and my mom's netbook is all based on hype. Though netbooks can do more things than an iPad, they're designed mostly for easy and compact net access and when it comes to that, I think the iPad is better. I know that what I'm saying is my opinion, but at least I base my opinion on experience with all the products being discussed, not hype.

It might be pretty bold suggestion, but if you want it to make sense you propably should consider reading the post this sentence was reply to.

I did, your post still doesn't make any sense. Not many of the posts in this thread make any sense, honestly.

How is that working out? Those WIn7 apps on tablets? Common now... This also makes little to no sense.

Question:

What is the friggin difference between the iPAD2 and.... everything else. Its bigger, it has a bigger screen, and it has stronger hardware, but I can play all the same games on my iPod touch right?
