I think $40 is good, id buy a lot of games if they were only $40,

Hell yeah. I'm cool with spending $60 for something that's worth it but very few games these days are worth that much.

Considering the cost of making games these days, and the fact prices in North America have declined in the past two decades... they are way too f*cking cheap. It's no wonder publishers are trying to make more money through DLC and online passes, they are taking huge risks with some games and almost just giving them away.foxhound_fox
Keep telling yourself that.
Keep telling yourself that.snesloverGaming getting too expensive for you? I hear used books are a very cheap hobby.
To be honset, yes. Most games simply don't offer the content or quality to warrent $60, if publishers and devs expect me to pay that much money for a game I expect it to be on the same level of quality as Uncharted or Skyrim.
you dumb ass shiiits, im talking about games like final fantasy xiii 2, UFC undisputed 3, im not going to pay $60 because they arent a halo or a gears or an uncharted for u ps3 kids, and they suffer more because of that, if they charged $40 more people would buy games like thosehadoken
I doubt they'll care all that much if they lost your business.
Gaming is an expensive hobby. It always has been.
N64 games used to be ridiculously expensive in the UK.
I just think developers need a better business model. Certain games shouldn't be selling at $60. Nonstop-Madness
They would get crap profit margins then. The best a publisher can get out of a whole sale from a physical copy is around $28. This is in the best terms. $23 is more realistic. Now let's say that the game sells for $50 instead of $60. The publisher will only be getting $13 - $15 out of that game. Drop it to $40, and they get like $6 - $8.
The only way to bypass that crappy margins is to go digital. Where it doesn't cost much to get a game sale. This is the reason why Digital Download games get drastic price cuts so fast, well on PC. They can drop the prices and still get a great revenue margin.

I buy games for reasonable prices because I know where and when to buy. Paying 70€ at launch in a major retailer is idiotic, you're only giving the store money, the devs get the same money if you buy for 30€ at another store later.

Cool. Resorting to name-calling. Very mature.
its allowed its in the TOUI'm aware. I didn't dispute that. It shows a severe lac k of maturity on your end, though.

Gaming is an expensive hobby. It always has been.lundy86_4Relatively to other hobbies it is the pretty much the second cheapest. Golf for instance will set you back at least $40-50 for one game of 18 holes if you don't own your own clubs (which start at about $100 and can easily break $1000, not to mention shoes and other clothing) and that will be about 4.5 hours of entertainment... which you will have to walk and carry or drag your clubs (on a pull cart). A devoted golfer can spend thousands a year on green fees alone if they go every weekend over the summer. Movies cost $10-15 for 2 hours or less at the theater, without the cost of food. $20-30 for the same movie on a disc. Only now with services like Netflix have they become cheaper (which still doesn't offer every movie available). Cable will start at $40-50 a month. Internet starts at $20. For a 6 hour long game, that can be replayed an infinite amount of times, $60 isn't that bad at all. And a 100+ hour game? It's like pennies a minute. People really have no idea how cheap gaming really is. It is a sense of entitlement, that "I have to play this game!" attitude that makes people think they should be able to afford every game on launch day, regardless of their income. Currently, I have spent nothing this year so far on games. Either my GF bought them (just CoDMW3) or I borrowed them from a friend (everything else I've played on PS3). And my total budget for games this year is looking to be in about the $250 range. Which is going to go mostly to Dark Souls, Journey/Flower and whatever Collector's Edition Ubisoft can put together for ACIII. It really makes me wonder how many people who complain about the cost of games are just kids still in high school. People who haven't experienced what a budget and bills are like.

I clearly understand why people don't sell their games for less than $60 but developers have to think about different ways of releasing their games. Make F2P games, or $40 digital only games etc. Putting a game in a case and selling for $60 isn't going to simply work anymore.Remember the 90s? 1dollar gas, $40 for a ps1 game with 50 hours of gameplay or more vs $60 for 6hour campaign and $4+ gas... as of today, what a life we live in now huh?
I don't think $60 is too expensive
However, I think the pricing system for console games is incredibly archaic in today's market.
There's no middle ground at all, nor is there much in terms of free, or "extra cheap" games.
On the consoles you have two options for buying games. $60 retail releases, or $10-$15 arcade titles.
Between PC and smartphones you have $60 retail releases, as well as $50/$40/$30/$20 retail releases. Then you have the $10-$15 arcade titles, and sub-$5 titles, subscriptions, and free-to-play titles.
It's no wonder PC/Smartphone gaming is growing at a faster rate than console gaming nowadays. There are so many more markets being captured in comparison.
What 50 hour games were you playing? Oh wait, RPG's. Today you have games like Skyrim, hundreds of hours.Remember the 90s? 1dollar gas, $40 for a ps1 game with 50 hours of gameplay or more vs $60 for 6hour campaign and $4+ gas... as of today, what a life we live in now huh?

Relatively speaking, i'm sure it is cheap in comparison to some hobbies. However, there is a reason sports such as soccer and basketball are so popular in areas. Due to the extremely low entry and maintenance cost.
Gaming can be an expensive hobby... How does that sound :P
I've experienced budgets and bills, and spend drastically more on gaming than I do on golfing (as per your example), and i'm quite a regular golfer.

Sounds great to me. I was mostly talking about a unit-to-unit comparison. What one game offers compared to one movie, one round of golf, etc. True. Any hobby is as expensive as one makes it. Gaming is just really cheap compared to most unless one wants everything.
The thing is that gaming is not a substitute good for a round of golf.
Why are you trying to apply the same levels of value to each?
