Is it fair to compare the $400 dollar PS3 to the $200 360?

[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="Animal-Mother"]How is it perfectly fair when it doesnt give you the same as the PS3?Animal-Mother
No console in history has ever given "the same" as other one. The 360's objective is not to "give the same as the PS3" in terms of features. Why should we "invent" an objective for it, that clearly isn't?

The fact of the matter is. We for gamers look for experience. I do indeed take note that there are people who just play games and what not. But as I said essentially at the end of the day certain people will need things like a hard drive or wireless. Thats just the fact of the matter. Also It is not fair for me and the thousands or millions like me who like to game. We need the hard drive. Some of us need the wireless. I live 2 floors above my router. Colleges are starting to become all wi-fi zones. The fact of the matter is competition breeds similarities. Regardless we I want a full rounded experience on all my systems.

Again you are confusing yourself with the entire gaming world. You gaming wants and needs will not be the same for the 32 million 360 owners. The arcade allows players to play online and play 95% of the retail games. That is plenty for most gamers. They have the option of getting a used HD also if they decide on it later. When I look at retail games I would rather play them then the downloadable arcade games that for me are not near as good.

your missing my point. People HERE on SW continuously say how the 360 gives you the same experiences for $200.00. I fail to see how it gives you the same experience when all the features on the system are void.

They get get the full experience of what THEY WANT. You act as if someone does not download 10 arcade games then they will not enjoy the system even if that is not something they want. I am sure many do not give a rats spit about downloading arcade games since most look last gen

Perfectly fair. It may have more added features, but it plays comparable games, and it's also competing direcly with it, so it's all fair game.

You're right. It's not fair. In games like COD4, RE5, Red Faction and Ghostbusters $200 gives you more.

I'd prefer to compare the Pro to the PS3, add in Live and it's $350 vs $400. That way you get virtually the same experience (HDD & online) and it's still slightly cheaper. To answer your question I guess it's still "fair", yes.Floppy_Jim
Well hopefully the ps3 price cut will come and perhaps the 360 one wont then people will be able to make a preference choice as opposed to a simple price one : )

What about the most important part. the GAMES. That's what makes an arcade 360 worth it. You can play SFIV, RE5, and other multiplats for half the price of a PS3.

That makes up for the lack of Blu-Ray and built-in wireless. I would hate to play games online on a wireless router.

The 360 has 31 more AA games and 44 more A games then the PS3. Also all those games able to be played on a console 1/2 the price of the PS3. So if that is one reason they decided on the 360 it was a good choice. I can not believe this is going to turn into all the 360 games are multiplat thread now.

What does that have to do with the fact the PS3 costs two times more then the 360? Stop trying to change the subject since you created the thread. Explain why the 360 $199 version does not matter.

Exclusive.

Dont worry these guys are the same guys saying you buy a console only for exclusives (PS3 for example), now they are saying multiplats to match their arguments.

Ok Like the post above I said you created this thread and still have not given a good reason why the $199 360 should not matter. You only reason is people can not download the arcade games. Now you are talking about multiplats and whatever i guess to derail the thread. It seems you do not have a good reason. Im going to go eat so later.

I bought my PS3 for PS3 exclusives and multiplat games where the PS3 version is better.

I bought my Wii for Wii exclusives and multiplat games where the Wii version is better.

I bought my 360 for 360 exclusives and multiplat games where the 360 version is better.

Ahh but you aren't getting the same game for half the price, if your gonna compair the arcade and make the half thre price argument then you have to factor in what you get for that half price and facts are facts for that half price you aren't getting online play, therefor the PS3 version of the game had added features you don't get unless you pay an extra price on top of the half price on a yearly basis and an added HDD making it not half the price after all, which makes your point null and void.

Did I? Nope.

I said both offer in essence the same experience since both (Arcade 360 and PS3) can play a lotof quality games(multiplats, but exclusives too, my first link included exclusives). Games.

That was my point.

It had nothing with what's more important, exclusives or multiplats.

I don't see why the $400 PS3 can't be compared to the $200 360. In the end, I have to pay $400 if I want to play games on the PS3, there is no cheaper alternative. I only have to pay $200 to play games on the 360. All the extra really isn't all that important honestly. The $400 PS3 is a better deal though but its still quite expensive.

Unless, of course, he doesn't care for any of those things.

Then his/her point was put wrongly as he/she was clearly trying to show that you get the same games for the half the price console which you don't when you factor out all the online components. --- In answer to the TC question i say no it isn't fair to compair them as it's just like compairing a 360 arcade unit to a fully featured elite 360 with a gold subscription, it's 2 completly different ball games.

What are you talking about? You can get an ethernet cable for stupid cheap. It's still worth more than a PS3. :|

How many online only games are there on the 360? I was under the assumption that even if I didn't play the online component of a game, the disk would still run on my system. Is this incorrect?

You all forgot one small detail:

The PS3 doesn't come with HD cables

You need too buy some if you want HD and Blu-Ray the way it was meant too be.

Arcade 360 = $399.99 PS3

I think you completly missed the point, that cable is only going to be for the silver live service which doesn't include online play.

It doesn't matter if the online part is still on the disk and the game still works etc, my point was compairing the SP part of the game (which is all you could use at $200) is not the same as compairing the SP & MP parts of the game which you can use with the $400 system.

Yes it is completly fair just because Sony was stupid to include BD and Wifi and force its consumers to pay for these features.

We'll go with MW2 on this one *clears throat* If I don't have a current gen console right now what sounds more appealing getting the super hyped MW2 and a 360 for $260 or getting it for the PS3 at $460.

You can still hook up your 360 to ethernet cable

you get a month free Live

You don't need the HDD to play online

No one cares about BD

So? I just want to play the game, I'm fully aware some of it can't be accessed when I bought it. Its common knowledge by now. I won't get into a price war like some people in this thread are doing but the fact is if I buy an arcade, I can still game on it. There is no gaurentee I would use online on either system so why exactly is it some sort of deciding feature? I'm just wondering, since experience varies person to person, using it as an argument is rather weak.

Dude, if I bought a 360 and I'm serious about it, I'm not buying games with online focus. I'm buying single player games as a first thought. Anyone who buys an arcade knows what he or she is getting into so saying its an inferior experience is just BS since it assumes they'll use the online to begin with oreven wantedlol.

Exactly, i think you missed the initial post i replied to as the point that person was trying to make was that for a $200 360 you get the same game at the person who has a $400 PS3 which you don't as you get only the SP part of the game (well you can only play the SP part, the MP is still ther but you can't use it) on the $200 360 unless you willing to pay more which then of couse the $200 360 become void. It's like i said in another post, compairing the $200 360 to a $400 PS3 isn't a fair comparision as it's like compairing a $200 360 to a fully featured $350 360 with a gold sub, one can play only SP games (unless you pay for live and a HDD) and the other can play online games strait away, Put it like this, if i wanted to only play SP games this gen i would have a 360 arcade as it's a banging deal and i agree you can't beat that price BUT i wanted an online capable console and the PS3 fit the bill for me as already it has cost me less than if i had bought a 360 and payed for live for a year or 2.
