Can you explain why mac is teh hardcore besides the whole more adults use it nonsense?

themobilephone

Explanation? I thought the point was to make asinine, stereotypical, generalizations about a persons console or machine of choice with no factual basis in order to make yourself feel more secure about your own purchase. Isn't that what happens to the Mac and the point of System Wars?

Still waiting on that explanation about why MAC is better than Windows...

It costs more,so is therefor better??

How does that sound??? :)

He already said he doesn't have an explanation and that he only tried to prove that the things he said were generalized stereotypes, although he failed to understand that stereotypes exist for a reason and the ones he mentioned are, in fact, made up.

I would say no , they are not. People say it is just a pc on a different os . isnt that what a console is?

Its not the same platfrom it has its own hardware and software. macs were the first home computers .

dontshackzmii
PC means Personal Computer. A Mac is a personal computer. Macs don't have their own hardware. They run on standardized hardware like anyone else. Their just designed differently to fit their specifically designed cases and shells. Look inside a Mac and you'll see the same brand and make of ethernet cards, Hard drives, processors, sound, sata, memory just like the rest of the PC world. Consoles are computers but they're not personal computers. It is not intended for a person to use a console for whatever the person wants. It's designed to run special software designed for the console in all cases. You can't take your xbox or ps3 and run autoCAD on it as an example. That's takes the personal out of the computer in consoles.

Macs are essentially PCs with a different OS than most other PCs. But, they ARE PCs. For argument's sake, we separate them.

Really? So I can't run iLife, which allows me to make music, build basic websites, make movies with iMovie and so on? Oh I bet I can't run Final Cut Pro on Macs either huh? Or MS Office, iWorks, Steam or any game for that matter... I bet you never even glanced at a Mac at all have you? I work on PC's and Macs for a living. I often find that people who hate macs the most are those who've never bothered to use them.

Generally means most of the time. Your making it seem as if people who use makes use it for music most of the time before anything else. That's simply not true...friend.

Yes. A windows PC is a PC as well. But they are separate systems. A PS3 is a Console. An Xbox 360 is a console as well. But they are separate systems.

I've never really used OSX properly, so my knowledge on it is severely limited. However, I found this link pretty interesting. It's not decisive one way or the other, as different people have differing ideas.

Also, in a test by Chip magazine, Windows & only *just* won out against Linux and OSX.

I have all three and none have any surpassing quality.

I can install windows 7 on a pentium 3 256mb ram computer and it can run smoothly.

Booting time is the same for each too with minimal differences of 1 or 2 seconds.

My Windows 7 OS is protected very well and I never experience any difficulties with it at all.

Espada12

They seemed to find it a little safer within those links. Likely due to the heavier security in place due to it being the more popular OS.

In the first link Safari seemed to be a big problem for OSX, and was the main problem in terms of security.

The super big lack of api's on linux will probably never make it good, most programs and games don't work thanks to that. Open source is good ofc but not when progress is pathetic. I still love linux i run my server on it due the lack of everything it wont crash either.

No worries. I felt i'd nip it in the bud and show him it's not as cut and dry as he seems to think. Considering most places are finding them fairly even in terms of features and security (though OSX security is lesser due to being a smaller userbase).

Consoles are usually remade pc hardware and got IBM processors so everything can be mass produced cheap on a single pcb.

IBM also makes embedded powerpc's which the ps3 and 360 are actually closer to. They aren't the general purpose CPU's you see in desktops, they have more dedicated architectures for what they need to do.

linux blatently suffers from lack of focus, windows 7 so far is the best OS i've ever used, while OSX is extremely pretty and solid, doesn't quite work as well as 7 and doesn't have the support for it so good programs are harder to come by

It's apple d00d...

APPLEEEEE!!!!

[QUOTE="Robbazking"][QUOTE="savagetwinkie"] its mainly the same hardware, with different OS consoles are completely different hardware and softwaresavagetwinkie
They are different hardware, Consoles are usually remade pc hardware and got IBM processors so everything can be mass produced cheap on a single pcb.

IBM also makes embedded powerpc's which the ps3 and 360 are actually closer to. They aren't the general purpose CPU's you see in desktops, they have more dedicated architectures for what they need to do.

IBM is really the grand dad of hardware, 360 and ps3 with their cell and ppu's are indeed closer to powerpc's tobad the instruction set might hold it back for common pc software.

Actually when i think about it consoles got pretty amazing hardware for their purpose.

I would say no , they are not. People say it is just a pc on a different os . isnt that what a console is?

Its not the same platfrom it has its own hardware and software. macs were the first home computers .

Same hardware... different software.

but still, what logical defense is there for the incredibly overpriced mac hardware?

Dead-Memories

Macs are expensive but not overpriced. Especially not "incredibly" overpriced.

There are plenty of defenses but I'll list a few:

Stable OS based on Unix

Simpler yet more powerful UI

Higher resale value

Steam

Less security risk

Works on any network platform, Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux...

Performance

I'll go into detail of each if you want.

Macs are extremely overpriced.

*looks at mac pro*

There cheapest on the website is around 2500 USD and is still weaker than a Windows PC built for under 1000USD.

A Windows PC can run all those OS you mention just find.

Windows 7 is perfectly stable for me never had a problem with it.

UI doesn't seem any better on Mac.

Resell value depends on the custom and of course it will sell for higher when it cost more in the first place.

Security is not an issue if you are properly protected.

Performance is better on a Windows PC.

And Steam is much much much much better on a Windows PC

[QUOTE="N30F3N1X"]

Rofl. Hahahahaha.

And what would you have it on? OS X? Linux  ?

RyviusRan

linux and osx are faster safer and more reliable then windows by far. :?

I have all three and none have any surpassing quality.

I can install windows 7 on a pentium 3 256mb ram computer and it can run smoothly.

Booting time is the same for each too with minimal differences of 1 or 2 seconds.

My Windows 7 OS is protected very well and I never experience any difficulties with it at all.

"I can install windows 7 on a pentium 3 256mb ram computer and it can run smoothly."

At what costs? You'd have to disable quite a lot of features unless you're using starter edition. And even then It will be sluggish.

Today's netbooks have 1 GB of ram and a 1.3-1.6 Ghz atom processor and run Windows Ultimate with Aero off like poo.

"Booting time is the same for each too with minimal differences of 1 or 2 seconds."

This may be true but it depends on what's running on what. I had a macbook pro early 2008 boot fatser than my win 7 PC. Until I put in 4 drives and made a raid 10.

You must be running the 64 bit version then. Since rootkits and certain viruses aren't written to run on 64 bit platforms it makes it more secure. Can't say the same for those running windows 7 32 bit.

Sure I have to configure Windows 7 to run smooth on a pentium 3 and 256mb of ram but it runs smooth.

I have windows 7 ultimate 32 bit on my 2005 laptop.

intel celeron 420m 1.6ghz

1 gig ddr2 667mhz ram

intel gma 950

And it runs smooth as butter.

I don;t get viruses on it at all and that is the 32bit version.

I also play my last gen games on it perfectly fine.

Hermits will all say yes, it only another way for them to have a unfair avantage. They get to boast how Pc is the best with its upgradable hardware, and now pull from the macs game library as well. This is more important to them now because SC2 was on mac as well. I think the Pc should be tossed out ow SW discussions it has to many unfair advantages, the Ps3 and 360 are just as alike as a mac and pc. The mac and pc are both Pc's just like the ps3 and 360 are both consoles, when they are counting games and such should we not lump all the consoles against the PC's? Why not they get to.

[QUOTE="Dead-Memories"] but still, what logical defense is there for the incredibly overpriced mac hardware?

Zero_epyon

Macs are expensive but not overpriced. Especially not "incredibly" overpriced.

There are plenty of defenses but I'll list a few:

Stable OS based on Unix How is OSX any more stable than Windows 7? It crashes less but freezes more from my experiences with it.

Simpler yet more powerful UI Depends on how you use the PC, but there's really nothing simpler about the UI of a MAC if you just use it for internet or games.

Higher resale value Why are you buying a PC for it's resale value? I buy PC's to last me a decade or more, pending occasional upgrades.

Steam This isn't a defense when other PC's have steam, and in fact have the full support of steam, while MAC only supports a small portion of steam games.

Less security risk With a much smaller market share there is less incentive to create malicious content, but even if it equaled Window's systems, anyone with half a brain can properly install security software, especially when windows 7 tells you to once you install it. This also depends how you use the PC. Visiting unsafe websites and clicking on every contest you win will screw you no matter what OS you use.

Works on any network platform, Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux... Honestly I'm not sure about Windows' network support so I'll just give you this one.

Performance Uh, no. For less money I can get better hardware with better performance than a MAC. And I don't have to buy a whole new PC when I want better performance, I can just upgrade separate components.

I'll go into detail of each if you want.

Please do go into detail.
