Is online cheating such a bad thing?

I take it you don't play sports then and if you do then again I question why you play them. You compete against others in an attempt to win. That's why you play. Sure you can have fun and yes but the goals of all these games are to win.

Or as I've told Foxhound are you a person that has never completed a level in any game? Because if you've beaten even one level in any game you've played then you've experiencing playing to win. Which is the whole point beyond playing.

The problem with cheating isn't that it happens all the time...it's actually pretty rare for most games. The problem is that when it does happen, it makes you question every bad match you've had in that game up until that point. Suddenly you're wondering whether that dude a week ago killed you because he was good, or because he had some kind of aimbot or whatever. It can ruin a game for you sometimes.

It completely ruins the experience for others. How can anything like that NOT be a bad thing?

I think that the video game industry should try to find a way to make the laws and regulations of the Nevada State Gaming commission to apply to online gaming.

Don't just ban cheaters. Put them in prison for fraud.

A few days ago I played GTA IV online and there was a cheater who had a rocket launching SMG and an abnormal amount of health. At first I was angry about it but after a while everyone started turning against the cheater, so it was a whole bunch of normal powered players versus a super powered player, like a boss battle, and that was actually pretty fun. Maybe they should make a legit multiplayer game mode like that.

Even if someone's goal is to win, the real win is only when you do that by following rules. Winning by breaking rules is not called win it is called "cheating". This also applies to every sport. Can you name some sports where cheating is acceptable?

Regarding having fun, you can have all the fun that you want as long as you dont spoil the fun of others. This applies to everything such as life, sports, video games...etc. Why is it difficult to understand?

cheating in a game when it is not needed of course is wrong. You can say BUH IT ONLAY A GAM3 LOLOLOLOL" but you would want someone to cheat if your playing a sport would you?.

I hate people who cheat in games because it just unbalances it and therefore loses its fun

If You want to cheat then do it with people who are ok with it, i.e. join or create a cheatserver.
It can be loads of fun.
Sometimes on tf2 You run into a server that has an admin doing wacky things. It's all for good fun.
But on a normal server You shouldn't cheat without other peoples consent.

Yes its really bad as (A) it makes everything too easy for you and therefore makes the game boring and (B) it ruins the experience for everyone else.

Playing online should be about being fair not who can cheat to victory. Mostly the devs fault but then again almost every console online game is abused one way or another and its hard for devs to keep on patching their games to make it fair for everyone, I guess.

online cheating is pathetic, if someone wants to cheat then do it in single player, cheating online sucks and ruins the game for everyone else

Cheating + Ranked = reported.

Cheating + non-ranked = fun.

I quit playing GeOW because of the glitchers. Epic didn't do anything to try and fix them either.

There are lots of cheaters in CSS, but I don't care. I still get plenty of kills and have tons of fun, and that's what matters. Besides, there are way more non-cheaters.

:| You wrote that like you were countering an argument or something. Of course online cheating is a bad thing, that wasn't the point of my post. I was simply stating that I'm not going to let a few a-hole hackers on a server stop me from enjoying the game. It's definitely not impossible to have fun, especially if you're on a decent server with a good community and admins. The people who speedhack and aimbot are easy to detect and are banned very quickly.
