Yes it is still around.

And despite NPD figures, it's probably as big as, if not bigger than console gaming. In many ways console gaming as we know it is pretty reliant on the existence and events of the PC market, so if it dissapeared you'd notice the difference.

Who in their right mind would spend thousands of dollars on a system to try and keep up with the latest game system requirements of the latest software when they can just by a console and always have the games working that were made for that particular console.

Not to mention the comfort of console playing, just sitting back on a couch or recliner with a wireless controller in front of a big screen TV in 5.1 dolby surround sound playing what ever game you put in the console mere seconds after you put it in.

As opposed to sitting uncomfortably in front of a 14 to 20 inch monitior hunched over a keyboard and mouse waiting for the system to boot up, then waiting for the game to load, and then hoping you don't get any freeze ups or pop ups due to other software or hardware confliction.

Besides it's no coincidence that no matter what gamestore you go into PC games have the smallest localized shelving like right in the center of the floor that takes up all of 4ft-w x 5ft-ht of store space, while all the console games line all the walls and take up the remainder of floor space.

I just wish PC gaming would die off already, you never see anyone lining up outside stores when an new hi-tech computer comes out, but when a new consoles released their camped outside for days and literally racing for the register to get their new console.

Sorry but facts are facts and people just aren't excited anymore over PC gaming.

macmutt

You know why we don't sit around like retards waiting for thing to launch? We are pre-loading them months ahead on our computers...

Im glad we don't have to put up with crappy a NFS game every 3 months or could care less about the 50th madden game. And with the most popular new console being the Wii, i don't think poeple are too excited about the console gaming you are talking about.

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]Yeah, PC gaming is still around. It's why I'm playing Next Life and Darkness Within. To hell with Crysis now :lol:FrozenLiquid

What a flagrant Crysis-hater. :D

I've been yearning for some sweet adventure games. Why did LucasArts stop making excellent adventure games? :(

Lol I'm just trying to give rep to my sexy adventure games. I got scared off by my first helicopter so I'm taking a break from the intensity lol. I don't know why LucasArts stopped making adventure games. There are still fantastic adventure games around but they've lost to mass marketing and such.

Darkness Within is great. how's Next Life ? (and why couldn't they leave the "Reprobates" title? ). Here in Poland there will be Overclocked, Simon the Sorcerer4, Art of Murder and Belief and Betrayal releases before the year is over :) isn't Lost crown debuting in US next month? THat will rock :)

well, thanks to recent advances, you can BUILD (NOT BUY AN OVER PRICED ALIENWARE) A Very good gaming PC for 1,200. Is this more expensive than a console? Yes. But, PC hardware is out running software. Currently, there are only a few first Gen DX10 games, like crysis. If you have an 8600GT or above, you will have comfortable performance on almost all DX9 games, plu DX10 capabilities. Thanks to the Core 2 series, which is one of the most powerful proccessors sold at retail EVER, which is only about 200 dollars, you can run most anything.

The point of a PC is longevity. When your parts get to out dated, you buy New ones, as opposed to a whole new comp. Not to mention the fact you have perks. 10 bucks off games. Will that make up for the higher price of the system? No, but it is nice. Customized Settings, If you have a game that chugs on a PS3,or 360, or Wii, you can't just pop open the settings, and lower Texture quality.Backwards compatability all the way back to DOS. Then you have various Grey entertainment( The stuff on the disclaimer your not supposed to talk about like cdROM, Homebrewed tea,sIMULATORS). Plus the internet, word proccessing, printing, e-mail, and sites like this.

Also, you don't have to buy new parts every 6 months. Are you the person who runs out and buys a new iPod ever time they have a new release? Does you old one stop working? so why would a PC gamer replace perfectly fine parts with, new, overpriced faulty ones?

PC gaming is dying.

XenogearsMaster

It's your vision that needs checking.

It's estimated there are 200 million PC gamers worldwide. Think about it, if you combine the userbases of the GameCube, Wii, Xbox, 360, PS2 and PS3 and you assume that all their sales came from different people (ie, nobody had any two of these consoles) and that nobody ever had to buy a second console (360 RROD and PS2 DRE), there are still more PC gamers.

This year alone, an estimated 16 million Dx10 GPUs are going to be sold. 16 million is also less than half of all Dx9 GPUs that will be sold, leaving decent GPUs at about 48 million this year alone. That's more than all next gen consoles combine will sell this year.

Research shows in Q1 of 2007 78.8 million GPUs were shipped. Before youtry and claim these GPUs were cheap and incapable of running games like Crysis, the same research also shows nearly 73% of all cards sold were 'performance', ranging in price from $150-$249, and less than 7% were workstation designed for non-gaming uses.

In terms of library PC gaming once again has the most AAAE and AAE exclusives of this generation and this year, and the most genre diversity represented of any system.

The only thing 'dead' is your argument.

I love this thread. It's hilarious. :P

No seriously. PC gaming has always been dying. There's been people saying the exact same thing like you since I don't even wanna know when.
And it doesn't really matter. I've played lots of console games, and each and every time I come to the conclusion that I simply like PC games way better then I will ever like console games.

Anyone who think that PC gaming is only active on FPS and RTS territory should also, as they say, get taught.

BTW, camping outside a shop for a new console is fun? Sorry but I still prefer sorting out various parts, having them delivered, opening the boxes, getting high on the toxic fumes they emit, put it all together, and watch a new pc start.

What can I say, PC gaming is clearly the thing for me, console gaming clearly isn't. Sure, we might have game shortages sometimes, but at least the PC has an nearly unlimited collection of games, both old and new, and there's so many good games in there, you can't even begin to imagine.

Would you like to repeat that?

Serious.

Ive got Crysis, Bioshock, Sup Com, WiC, CoH Opposing Fronts ect. all sitting here on the desktop, and I havent touched any in a few days. Im addicted to FSX. First Flight Sim series game really ive gotten into since 95 lol, and a nice change from Lock On, and IL2.

I love Flight Sim X. It's off my computer right now, but since my mate wants to be a commercial air pilot, he told me everything about flying planes and a flight from Auckland to Shanghai can be fun, even in real time . Takes a toll on your power bill though :|

Hahah, very true.

One of my mates who has his pilots licence - ironically before his drivers licence - surprisingly did loads of practice on FSX while applying for me.

He may enjoy flying light aircraft, but - Red Bull Air Race. FTW!

That and I cant beleive my Sidewinder 2 joystick still hasent snapped, after all the puishment I dished out to it when I used to play Echelon, Apache vs Hockum, and Janes FA18 as a kid.
Helll my first game on the first family computer was an F22 sim, which I taught myself to play with the keyboard.

[QUOTE="Lonelynight"]If PC gaming dies, so those console gamingmusicalmac
I don't know how you would substantiate that claim.

The progress of inexpensive graphics cards has been more or less entirely driven by the PC hardware market. While processors *might* be driven by business and scientific needs, losing the PC gaming segment would remove the largest buyer of dedicated, powerful GPUs, on whose advancement consoles depend.

The same has also been true for engine development - once again, consoles are heavily dependent on the PC market to offset costs, buy in at the high-end (UE3, Crytek 2, et cetera). Essentially, the PC market provides the finances to drive technology - which allows it to later be offered affordably on consoles.

So, it's quite true to say console gaming as we know it would die were PC gaming to fade.

Exactly, if you have used a computer from early age or better up can code from early age you can bet you will have a nice salary. Yeah PC gaming is so boring, you know what I bought an 360 and haven´t played on it for 6 months now, it´s so boring. Most games I play is strategy and wargames. I am drawing graphics and art for Strategy/Wargames as my hobby and get paid through it also. You bet I will teach my kids the same so they can continue when they have the age in.

Benefit? Do you have any deep tactically challenging wargames on the consoles, no you don´t. PC gaming isn´t niche at all. I am grown up with PC´s, so there is no way I can just lay that aside and think oh no it´s dying so I have to go to consoles. I use my PC for playing games and developing games. FPS games that I also play, plays much better on the PC, yeah COD4, looked at my friend where he struggled controlling the damn game and running it at a whooping 720p meanwhile I run it at higher rez.

He was so impressed by the graphics on the 360until he saw the PC version running on my rig :) Now Crysis is the game I play most now.

There's a firm called DFC Intelligence that keeps tabs on world-wide game markets. I purchase their reports often for business use. I really wish I could post excerpts here but due to © I can't. Suffice it to say that world-wide: Console Gaming: ------------------ PC Gaming: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However, the statistics for Japan are lop-sided on the console side, and PC gaming sales in NA are on the decline, but on the rise in the rest of the world (sans Japan). Let me get something straight. The way DFC calculates does not take into account the amount of monies produced by LAN-centers (devs DO get paid a percent of this income). As anyone whose ever been outside the USA knows, LAN centers are BIG BUSINESS in the rest of the world. I've been looking for some market research into LAN profits but this information is restricted by contract between the licensee and the various developers.

Once again, a consolite proving what PC gamers say about their ignorance and stupidity. In the case of this particular console fanboy, he doesn't even understand how a forum works and refuses to acknowledge anything already established in the thread PRIOR to his post.

Then again, he does enjoy playing CoD4 on an inferior platform, and doesn't know it. We can only expect so much.

Upgrade the PC for every 3 to 4 months? Are you kidding me, my former PC lasted me 4-5 years. This one will last me as long if I want, though I have a job and money so I will go and buy me the new Nvidia card when that arrives.

Vista runs great, I have no problems with it and I start it up in just a few seconds, don´t know where you come from.

A Mac user, just jelaous are you that you can´t afford a real gaming PC? Oh yeah I have so much viruses and such ouch ouch ouch. Just maintain your PC and you don´t have any viruses. What is it with these computer noobs these days. Talk about lazy console players, just press the power on button. How hard is it to install a game on the PC, besides my games on the PC loads a hell lot faster than what it does on my Xbox 360 DVD drive.

Maybe you fail to understand there are fast harddisks out there with much faster access time than the DVD drive in the 360. Got damn these threads are fun, hilarious to read.

Dude are you serious, i was trying to keep this a PC vs Console gaming post because i didn't want to embarrass you PC users, but i am 38 years old with 2 kids and i went to school at N.Y.I.T. for PC upgrades and repair of hardware and software, why do you think i hate PC's, because of all the frickin' maintenance they "REQUIRE".

So i switched years ago and so far i've converted 7 friends and family members over to Mac and they couldn't be happier and never once has their or my own Macs ever required any work of any kind, Windows is so far behind , they have to try and copy and get closer to Mac's OS with each release, but they always fail miserably.

So what the heck is so much better ? the upgrade features, well "you get what you pay for" isn't that what one of you guy's told me, so Apple lets you customize your Mac that your buying right on their site just like Dell or Alienware, you can get a terabyte harddrive, 4 gigs of ram, 320 video card, anything you want and more.

The difference is you'll get a operating system that never crashes , never gets viruses and is leaps and bounds ahead of windows, does windows come with voice command preinstalled, because Mac does and it works great i sit here and physically tell my Mac which program to open and close, which site to goto anything i want.

I never get any lag or freeze ups with software, i never get any B.S. pop ups of any kind from anti-virus updates or spyware junk, and zero pop ups going from site to site, infact the only thing you guy's have over Macs and i mean only thing is the larger game library which makes no difference to me since i prefer gaming on a console anyway.

This whole arguement reminds me of when i was recently standing online at my local mall outside the Apple store waiting for the OS-X Leopard to be released with 200 other customers and at least 50 people came up while we were standing there over the course of the 2 hours asking us what we were online for, and we just knew they were PC users, and when we told them, they just shook their heads and walked away because they just didn't get it, and us die hard Mac fans loved that they didn't get it...because we Mac users truly love our Macs.

Their not just our personal computers their a member of our family and PC fanboys will never understand that, and thats great.

member of your family...

I don't think they shook their heads because they were PC users. If I saw a line of people waiting for a new operating system I would shake my head vigorously in disgust, yes I use a PC, but I would do the same if I saw people waiting for vista.

haha. wrong.

Some 38 year old father ranting and raving on the system wars forum like a teenager? Thats YOUR family right there.

You'd think he'd have something a little more important to do, like buying the latest overpriced apple accessory, or...i dunno...taking care of his kids

"still around?" lol that's a sad attempt to act as though it's already dead. pc gaming is never going to die, know why? consoles are pc's that pretty much hook up a tv easily and use a gamepad, and there ALOT more pc's then consoles so it makes sense to at the very least port to the pc.

also i sit quite comfortably in front of my monitor. and maybe they have the smallest self space because so much of pc gaming is available online?

to bad you'll never really enjoy your console sense it appears your more concerned about pc's for some reason. here's an idea play your game on your console have a good time an not whine about what other people play on.

TeamR

I havent seen any replies to this. figures

haha

Why would you? The people who are on the opposing side of this argument are incapable of rational debate.
