Steam recently, had Max Payne 1 & 2 bundle deal for only $3.50. The deals they have for games every week is INSANE. I won't even go into the many different holiday sales they have throughout the year which is even more ridiculous! So, I decided to get Max Payne, downloaded in like 15 minutes, and it updated it with latest patch and all I had to do is hit just "Play" and it was ready to go. Not, only that I didn't need to pay any taxes when I buy any games off Steam. Even newer games are cheap like when I brought Dirt 2 for $5 last year and I checked the retail price for a brand new console version of the game and it was $40. They have deals that are off 75% of the retail cost of the same game on the console version. Newly launched games are often $15-$20 off the retail price off the console version. Steam absolutely TRASHES PSN and Xbox Live (which you have to pay $50 a year for LOL) in terms of it's game library and deals.

Which begs the question, is Steam the ULTIMATE gaming service in the world?

Edit: I mean just look at this weekends sale they have all the Grand Theft Auto games 75% off. You could buy some GTA titles for $2. LOL.

http://store.steampowered.com/

Not to mention all the Splinter Cell games 60% off.

I agree. I've spent at least three hundred dollars on Steam deals over the past two years or so.

PSN or XBL don't even come close. 50% off lame arcade games is nowhere close to what Steam gives us.

Steam is the best. It has single-handedly brought me back to PC gaming. Well that and the clearly superior multiplats.

Yes. Although D2D is better for buying new games because you can almost always get a 20% off code.

Yes. The features are amazing, free, simple, and hassle-free. Way Better then Xbox LIVE and PSN.

The only problem I have with them is; they rarely have sales on Brand New Games. =( So I always go to Direct 2 Drive, Key Store, or Retail for brand new games. Can't beat a $35 Brand New Day One Game. =D

Other then brand new games; the rest of the games I buy on Steam unless some where else is cheaper.

Where is the SegaNet option? o.O

STEAM is one of the best, but not the best. I prefer Gamersgate, like a month ago or 2 they had over 200 games on up to 75% off. Actually logging on the site right now I see 61 games on sale. Also, Steam thinks that 1 dollar=1 Euro (ofc this may not be steam's fault but rather the publishers), wont let me play borderlands because some files are missing and I must be logged on my steam account to play (although I dont have to be online).

Edit: Still an excellent service though, in fact it is the best (considering Gamersgate is more of a store than a service, whoops), the communication features, especially steam groups, being able to invite other people to games make up for the faulty store.

Yea GamersGate is pretty amazing as well. A lot of games are always on sale on there...but that is more of a store not a service.

yup. over here launch prices tend to be more expensive than retail (by about 10 euro usually)..so i dont tend to buy new games at launch on steam unless i dont have a choice in the matter. but i like when the retail version uses steam :D. as DRM its perfectly reasonable. it has an offline mode when needed so its all good there. its a piece of cake to find games in the store...the search facility is very effective bringing up suggestions as you type. valve seem to be very easy going about what publishers do with their games on steam. want to pay customers to take it? fine :P. its also great at promoting games you probably wouldnt hear of otherwise...ive never heard a small dev complain about steam. and then theres the sales and deals. lovely stuff :D. its not perfect...id like to see it be smarter about how it downloads stuff (anyone remember how the phantom was supposed to work? cool idea). id like an option to turn off the achievements prompt. valves easy going appraoch also has a bad side in that steam feature support is also very inconsistent (id love steam cloud support for all games for example). but overall dam fine service. i also like impulse......nice service that.

Steam itself sucks. I hate it, just another form of lame ass drm. The deals on steam however I love. But you can find similar deals on pretty much all the DD services on the net.

The console price of Mafia 2 is 7.50? The console price of Bioshock 2 is 5 dollars? The console price of Borderlands GOTY is 7.50? Nobody is making you buy the games at launch.

Steam gives the best sales gaming has ever seen :)

As a community service? Yea, i'd say so; nothing else offers so many features ON TOP of being (arguably) the best digital distribution center. It admittedly sucks for Euro gamers, but that's because of publishers

The best by a long, long way. I mean in Australia Portal 2 retail is about $80 I think. On Steam, $45 for a pre-order. Brilliant.

It was disastrous when it first started but Valve took it seriously and worked with it. They've revolutionised distribution.

The reason the Borderlands GOTY is "overpriced" for us europeans is because the prices are set seperatly, I believe 2K just forgot to lower the price for us Euro users.

The price for console games is highly varied, I have seen games go for as little as 400 Swedish Krona, to over 600 Swedish Krona. Which to American Dollars would translate to 65 Dollars to 97 Dollars. From my experience most stores were closer to 600 SEK than 400 SEK so until I discovered this site, I was usually paying 90 dollars for each console game. From what I heard, games are even more expensive in Norway.

its usually 500 nok for a console game, and 450 nok for a pc game, which translates into almost a 100 dollars for a console game and 90 for a pc game. steam wants me to pay 120 for a game.

That's messed. I live in Canada and once is a while there will be games that launch at 70. Those are pretty rare these days though. Wii games also launch for 55-60 dollars from time to time too.

We get screwed on M$ points though. 1400 for 20 dollars is an absolute rip off.

Sony has been working with valve on steamworks, what if ps4 a actual steam client. That had been so epic win.Robbazking
Well, pc gaming, would be obsolete for me, assuming they price their games right.

Still an excellent service though.

Yea GamersGate is pretty amazing as well. A lot of games are always on sale on there...but that is more of a store not a service.

BTW: Blue Coins ARE AWESOME!!!

Yeah, steam needs something similar to blue coins, gives more of a reason to buy the game at full price.

its usually 500 nok for a console game, and 450 nok for a pc game, which translates into almost a 100 dollars for a console game and 90 for a pc game. steam wants me to pay 120 for a game. Sandvichman

Unless, STEAM prices are different for you, or my currency calculator is completely broekn, recently released Steam games for you should be priced at 387 NOK, which translates to 71 USD.
