[QUOTE="Sandvichman"]its usually 500 nok for a console game, and 450 nok for a pc game, which translates into almost a 100 dollars for a console game and 90 for a pc game. steam wants me to pay 120 for a game. Maroxad

Unless, STEAM prices are different for you, or my currency calculator is completely broekn, recently released Steam games for you should be priced at 387 NOK, which translates to 71 USD.

when did 50 euros become 387 nok? Oh man, i gotta check the cureency values.

[QUOTE="Robbazking"]Sony has been working with valve on steamworks, what if ps4 a actual steam client. That had been so epic win.Sandvichman
Well, pc gaming, would be obsolete for me, assuming they price their games right.

Imagine if they allowed mods as well, but only steam on a console would make me clap my hands and jump of joy.

Only when steam has a video recording feature..then i will agree that it's truly the best:P

cobrax55

haha, this is the only feature i've been praying for and they don't give me :p

Its being added in the near future, Valve recently said so.

pretty much, they already added screenshots and ability to upload them

You will usually find better prices else where with new games, but they do have nice sales from time to time.

Recent economic times have changed the values of currency quite a lot recently. For not too long ago 1 Dollar=7.5 SEK. Now 1 USD=6 SEK. Right now 1 Euro is 7.752 NOK so that should be more or less right. Steam games should be cheaper than retail games for you.

I prefer direct2drive over Steam, the Steam client is a bit heavy and the DRM doesn't prevent piracy so I see it as a nuisance. For some games of course you have to use Steam which is annoying. I'm fine with DRM but only if it works.

Yes it you don't want physical copies. I do, so it's okay for a few games.

Maybe its ripping off europe.-

Its crappy offline mode?

Making me pay console price+ tax for a downloadable pc game.

Yeah, best service, evar.

-How is it ripping off Europe?

-You play a game online once to validate it on your machine and then its good to go. I've never had trouble with the offline mode.

-They only charge console prices for a few games and that's what the games go for in the stores. Aside from a few new games the prices are phenomenal. I just bought all the GTA games minus part 4 for $7.50. You would never see a deal like that elsewhere. And as far as taxes go, that's not Steam's fault. Its up to your state or govenment whether you pay taxes or not. Do you not pay taxes at other digital stores?

As far as digital services go, nothing else compares. If you know of one that does, please tell me. I'll be sure to check them out.

I really don't like steam. Wish that PC games didn't require it. It always tells me server is full, takes forever to download stuff from it, even small updates. I just don't like it.

Their prices are comparable, but still pretty much the same. They're just a store, though. Steam is a store/online gaming service. It has way more to offer. Just saying.

So you're saying Steam charges almost twice as much for each game? Are they the only ones that do that? If so then you win. I wouldn't buy from them either.

I dont know, do you have to log into steam to play the games? everyone says "once" but whilst googling, I read that each time you play(most) games you have to log on in the begining, THEN you can play offline. If that's so, kind of defeats the "play offline" feature.

As an online store I usually always find better prices on amazon, even for PC games.... But their weekend sales are usually very good. Other than buying games I usually dont use steam for anything else.

Hence why there's a lack of console fanboys in this thread.

The silence from the console crowd is deafening. :P

Steam is perfect example of some of the "fact's and realities" of PC gaming.

One disadvantage is the limited support of VAC in games though. I still see a lot of cheaters when playing online.

We get screwed on M$ points though. 1400 for 20 dollars is an absolute rip off.

It's absolute bull. That's why MS needs to ditch MSP. Although, we are only taxed on the purchase of the points, so that's a plus :)

They're not just on old games. Borderlands GOTY isn't that old and it was up a couple days ago for $7.50. I've seen them offer entire publisher catalogs like SE, THQ, EA and more for 90% off and more. Old or not, how is $1000 worth of games for $100 overrated?

Mafia II for $7.50. That's a really old game like it came out in 2010. 2010 is SO OLD.

The GTA deal is pretty sweet, but not the best. On consoles, I can find the PS2 GTA games at $2-4 each and GTA 4 at $6. Steam does have good deals, but consoles aren't that bad either. For instance, I can buy Dirt 2 right now for $7. I can also buy Crysis 2 for just $35 on consoles.

The difference here is physical and digital media. If I wanted a hard copy of a PC game I would have no trouble going on eBay or somewhere similar and finding it for dirt cheap prices. However, digital prices hardly ever drop. Games that came out on XBL and PSN 2 and 3 years ago are still the same price they were when they released. The only exceptions you'll likely find are the games that are also available in hard copy. Even then... they haven't dropped nearly as much. As far as digital media goes, Steam is pretty hard to beat. But when talking about hard copy (which this thread actually isn't) Steam is certainly gonna lose on most titles.

LOL who wants dirty, scratched PS2 games? Where is the multiplayer for San Andreas for the PS2 version, where are the mods?

GTA 4 for 6 dollars (even though that's a lie until you prove it) is garbage compared to me buying the GTA 4 complete set for 10 dollars. I get to enjoy the game maxed out with mods :)

For sure, I just bought GTA1, GTA2, GTA3, GTA-VC, and GTA-SA for $7.50. Unfortunately none of them have Steam Achievements, and the first game crashes upon start-up, neither of which would happen on a PS3 or 360. Yet still freaking awesome. Problem is, I just prefer disc based games though, so that's why I have about 20 Steam games and around 60-80 PS3/360/Wii games...

Its a store that occasionally doens't allow me to play the games I buy, i havn't been able to play black ops all week because it just says game not available, its not a gaming service, its a store, stores have sales, you can buy retail games at dirt cheap prices if you find a sale, those retail games i'm not effectively locked out of if something is wrong, so is steam convenient for buying games... yes, is it always better.... no

Steam is not a gaming service? How many stores have user profiles, text chat, voice chat, screen capture, cloud service, gaming unions, user servers, public servers, achievements, anti-cheat protection, etc, etc, etc?

[QUOTE="Mr_Cumberdale"]The GTA deal is pretty sweet, but not the best. On consoles, I can find the PS2 GTA games at $2-4 each and GTA 4 at $6. Steam does have good deals, but consoles aren't that bad either. For instance, I can buy Dirt 2 right now for $7. I can also buy Crysis 2 for just $35 on consoles.savagetwinkie

I get to enjoy the game maxed out with mods :)

what has this got to do with steam?

I can get the games conveniently. I don't need to go to a shady pawn shop that requires be to pass through a buzzed door going in and then out.

Steam offers the better, more convenient deal, period.

Yup. I love Steam so much. I bought Vice City for a little more than $2. I got Bioshock 2 for $5. I got 5 Splinter Cell games (including the latest one and its DLC) for $25. I got the Magika complete pack for cheap, as well as a few other games. And that is just this month.

yes, the amount of sales and variety of games(which is still growing old & new) is unmatched.

It's the best, but not entirely because of the sales. Plenty of indie developers owe their very existence as game-makers to Steam, and the flexability of the platform allows developers to make easy changes and do events like the Portal 2 ARG. It's not weighed down by mega-corperations like XBLA and PSN. I also bought Bully of there for $3.50, so there's that.
