Is the PS4 being overhyped?

The console is getting way to much hype. The console looks promising,but the PS event that revealed the console was just good. Also the console has decent specs, but not amazing specs.

Last gen Lems were all about graphics (due to the Xbox having the better hardware), and cows were all about gameplay.

Now it's the exact opposite. Lems are all about gameplay (due to the PS3 being the better hardware), and cows are all about graphics (I guess to make up for last gen).

Fanboys flip flop all the time. No type of fanboy is worse/better than the other.

No, not compared to the Emotion Engine or Teh Cell- 8GB of RAM is something quantifiably awesome unlike CGI dreams & smoke and mirrors. There should be more hype than there is now, it makes the forum more enjoyable than being sensible and unbiased and boring.

This is the one i'll give you, there's a few Sony fans who're being pretty hipocritical but there's many more who are more reasonable and will only grudgingly accept it.

Last generation multiplats didn't matter but now "The PS4 will have the best multiplats." I've not really seen cows bigging this up, i think people have seen a thread quoting a Sony exec and suddenly think it's the cow's opinion. Tbf this gen the difference might be enough that multiplat difference will make a difference on console. WiiU is far behind for specs and the next Xbox is rumoured to be a third less powerful. It won't be a few pixels and a frame or two difference this time round should the NextBox specs be accurate.

And when PC fanboys would throw out the PS3's low ram or Xbox fanboys would brag about their GPU specs didn't matter. But now we all have to hear about that 8gb of GDDR5 in every thread. It's the start of the new gen, of course they're going to be going on about new specs. If you're refering to all the GDDR5 troll posts that have finally died off then it's your own fault for getting sucked in.

I was wondering what the hell he was talking about there.  Sony fans say paying for the ability to have basic online gameplay isn't worth it when it is free everywhere is AND THEY ARE RIGHT.  And that fact still holds true right now.  

I have never seen a sony fan back track on that argument so he is juar talking out of his ass trying to create the perception that sony fans are saying otherwise.

Because people are actually expecting to get the PS4 for like $300 when thats not even realistic.

And I'm talking about all these features they came out with that will almost certainly be locked under a subscription. Rumours are that Sony will lock most online features under subscription. Standard online play could be free, but all these nice new features that people are hyping will probably have to be paid for.

Hype is just unrealisitc at the minute, because we don't know all the facts.

Nope. There's modest hype , mostly from the expected. There's a huge sigh of relief right now.   

• Modest specs - (powerful enough , but more affordable)
• Controller improvements/additions
• Online improvements/additions
• Guerrilla , Sucker Punch , Japan Studio , and Evolution starting out
• Easy to develop for
• Promise of quicker and more painless system functionalities 
• Headset included 
• PS+ will continue
• Vita compatibility

It shows a willingness (and neccessity) to improve , but I think the REAL driving force is the satisfaction from PS3 owners and the faith in Sony to support their consoles. They have the studios and a keen eye for publishing some cool things on top of that studio base. 

Here we are all these years later ..... happy with the PS3 as predicted , and absolutely thrilled of what's coming next from Sony with The Last of Us , Puppeteer , Beyond Two Souls , and maybe more (Gran Turismo 6). I don't see much changing in the next gen. We expect it. We demand it.

The main infastructure of Playtation looks good at the moment. 

• Kaz - Head of the entire company now - (overseer of Playstation)
• House - Head of Playstation
• Yoshida - Head of Worldide Studios
• Cerny - System architect , tools guru , software consultant , game director , artist , philosopher , prophet , and alleged demi-god

They've all been though all the ups and downs at Playstation , and often times were at the mercy of Ken Kutaragi and the bigshots at Sony Corp with some of the decisions that they made or went along with. That doesn't seem to be the case any longer. They have been listening to their consumers , and the dev community, They are all working together on this.

Because people are actually expecting to get the PS4 for like $300 when thats not even realistic.

And I'm talking about all these features they came out with that will almost certainly be locked under a subscription. Rumours are that Sony will lock most online features under subscription. Standard online play could be free, but all these nice new features that people are hyping will probably have to be paid for.

MS has taken 3 mos of extra time delying the announcement of nextbox for "something".  We have to wait and see how much of what was leaked MS follows through with.  It is possible that everything that was leaked by devs and employees from MS was correct but it's not certian if MS is pushing foward with all of that ATM, like I said they did delay announcing the next box for "something".  

but yes we will find out May 21.

Need moar JRPGs.  xbox is supposed to be the system with the most westen developed content.  Sony dropped the ball on one of the biggest reasons I picked up the console.  Here's to hoping pS4 is better.

I just wouldn't be so quick to come to conclusions about what MS will have based on reports.  Sony has a surprise with PS4...the same could happen with MS.  

Fanboys will be fanboys. I don't mind the hype so long as they don't get carried away. I say carried away because some hype the PS4 to the point they make it seem like it's already out for sale and they're already playing it when in reality, we don't even know what it looks like yet.  

I actually think PS4 is underhyped a bit.

:? besides this is "systemwars" hype is 80% of what makes this forum go round.  Hype will die down for it like it does for everything geez some people just can't stand for people to get excited for things that aren't "their brand".
