To say that we have a problem here would be an understatement.

Many a gamers seem to bash The Witcher 3 as some sort of piece of asscrap game. With a terrible combat sytem, watered-down WRPG elements and a gratuitous amount of sexscenes. Even the local SJWs have come to criticism the Witcher as "misogynistic." Is The Witcher 3 actually NOT Poland's greatest contribution to the world?

My experience with the game was that it had an absolute god awful combat system, but decent everything else. A solid 8/10 in my opinion. However, I am afeared to say that The Witcher 3 may not be as good the world believes it is.

I believe it is good. Many others apparently think it is not.

Thus I created this thread.

Who thinks TW3 is misogynistic? It isn't. I think the only legitimate criticism was the ethnicity thing, but it's still such a stupid thing to argue about.

The game is pretty amazing imo. I don't understand the criticism towards the combat system, it plays like an unrefined LoZ game the way I play it. I attack, roll, attack, roll, spam attack atc. And the signs are actually useful unlike in TW2.

I think everything about the game is great, combat included. So I feel the score it got is justified. I really really enjoy these style of games though so for me it took what I loved about W2 and threw it into a pot of boiling epicness.

The joys with life is everyone is different, so some will say it sucks while others (such as myself) praise the hell out of it. I love the Zelda series but I know many who don't. To me, it is the greatest franchise ever but I can also see what people may not like about it.

The Witcher 3 spoke to me, like many games similar to it did. The ones who actually played it and thought it was shit weren't "spoke" to like I was and that is completely fine. I loved the game, but for the people who didn't I can see where it could be off putting for some. That is how I try to play all games. I look at what I love then I compare it with what others may or may not love.

The combat is really good once you master the controls. Everything else is excellent. The game raises the bar quite highly for open world RPGs, and is easily a 9/10 (if not higher).

I don't understand the complaints about the combat. Does it feel as tight and polished as Souls combat? No. Is the combat still fun? Yes.

The biggest complaint about this game is related to movement and controls, but outside of that everything else is just top-notch. The story, characters, dialogue, sidequests--everything is interwoven into one behemoth of an open-world RPG.

Yes, it is shit. Controls are clunky, it's a complete rip-off of Zelda in terms of world design, its mission design is something a 5 year old could come up with on a mission editor, unresponsive inputs, horrid swimming, Geralt's monotonous voice acting, Geralt movements are floaty and he seems to be sliding on ice. Those aren't the only things that plague this game, there's more issues with cosmetics, picking up loot is absolutely terrible in this game as you have to stay put for 3-4 seconds before you could.

"gratuitous amount of sexscenes"

What?

None of the sex is forced on the player. It's only gratuitous if the player makes it so. It's not like the last games where sex scenes were forced no matter what.

I'm sure you all had your own personal experience with the combat, but using the various skill reset potions I managed to trying everything, and this was my experience. I played it on the hardest difficulty.

Witcher combat is literally numerical zelda combat. Clunky combat. Game chooses the dodge direction unless you tell it otherwise. Typical stunlockable enemies encourages you to spam attack aside from a couple big ones. Trying to kill something 7-8 (don't remember exactly) levels higher than you reduces your damage by like 97% until become killable once you get within their range 6-7 levels away. Combat also plays like Assassin's Creed and Arkham, which I hate a lot, so it carries the negatives that came with those combat systems.

Straight fast attack has a higher DPS than using strong attacks(I tested it), making strong attacks pointless 90% of the time, good for elementals and breaking shields, but that's about it. Crossbow is ALMOST completely useless unless you get the last perk in the crossbow tree. And defense and alchemy perks are just... ugh.

Witcher 3's magic system is quite poor. First off, there's only five abilities, that's a very, very small amount of spells for your typical WRPG. then they're not properly balanced. Igni, Aardd, Yrden are underpowered/useless. Igni does very little damage and is only really good a gamble stun, were there's a chance you stun mutliple enemies instead of one, otherwise you might as well just cast Axii. Sure, you need Yrden to kill certain wraiths, but outside of that it's not very good for crowd control. Lastly, Aard is decent, knocks things down for you, stab instankill, etc. but it's still not as good as Quenn and Axii

The absolute optimal way to play is to max out Axii for chat benefits and stuns vs hard/overleveled units and Quenn for survivability. Get the perk to turn adrenaline points into magic. Spec into fast attacks and adrenaline boosts and just stunlock the shit out of everything around you with the fast attack spin alternate. Who even needs the game to dodge in a random direction for you? Who even needs to bother parrying? You're killing 15 nekkers simultaneously. Quenn is involved literally just for Elementals, Foglets and Wraiths. Nekkers, drowners, humanoids, fucking anything that isn't a gargoyle, elemental or giant? Wheat before a sycthe.

Perhaps by finding what is likely the easiest/cheapest way to play the game I ruined it for myself by not building something less effective and self-handicapping myself to make it harder. Maybe I'm just hating on it because it isn't Dark Souls. IDK, a lot of people aside from me seem to be hating on it as well. Feel free to call me out on my bullshit if you feel/know differently.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aside from the combat I had no real gripes with the game. Sidequests were the best that I'd seen in any game. Sidequests/characters would pop in and out of the main quest and would have an effect if I did them before doing the main quest. While choices were sometimes minimal, they did change the rest of the quest/story I actually liked gwent a lot (kek). Crafting was good and it had a tad of some of the better characters and writing I've seen in games

tl:dr combat is shit, loved everything else and If combat was better I would agree with the Metacritic score.

I got bored a few hours in. Will play some more of my backlog and give it another run. World just felt lackluster and empty, combat was shallow, and I felt no investment in the characters.

That's like asking "do some disagree with the majority's assessment?"

IMO? No. The Witcher 3 is the finest, most well built game released in 2015 thus far.

The only complaint I have about combat is the crappy lock on system. Other than that combat is fine. The rest of the game is pretty damn good.

Try beating any enemy 4 levels above you without the gear, or points in signs or attacks. But the Souls combat with 3 sword swipes and a big enemy is sooo much better. LOL If you cant handle traps, signs, swords and timing, then you suck elephant dick.

I really loved it at first but soon I realised the missions were mostly the same (over use of the witcher senses). I'm nearly close to beating the story mode and honestly, I'm getting tired of it. But then again, I've close to 60h of gameplay already so... I think no game can keep being fresh after 60h

"God awful combat" and you still give it an 8/10?

A core mechanic is crap....but it's till a really good game?

This seems to run parallel to SW way of thinking.

It's a damn good game methinks. Melee combat is the weakest part but once you get to using signs, oils and potions and set the difficulty to Blood and Broken Bones at least, it becomes far deadlier and methodical. Solid 8.5/10 for me.

Good graphics.

Great characters

Great gameplay

Good soundtrack

Good storyline

Most elements in the game are pretty amazing. 6 is slightly above average and 7 is good. I'd like to hear an argument for saying this game is anything below great. 7.5 is the minimum I'd give it. Then again, maybe we have different interpretations of scores.

Well this was fast, Witcher 3 already reached that point in popularity that morons and hipsters start to call it overrated, not good, etc... "omg that thing is super popular, but i did not like it so much, MUST BE OVERRATEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD" xD

It happens with every popular game, each one, and will continue to happen, and you know what? nobody gives a fuk.

There are no criticisms here that didn't or wouldn't to the first two.

Might as well change the title to just "is witcher actually a shit series."

Then again, I said that it had many redeeming qualities.

I can't remember a recent game (5 years) where the combat was something new and special. Fallout has the VATS, which is fun and makes you think. Might as well get a Wii U if all we get is dodge and attack, because nintendo does it better than anyone.

It's far from being a "shit game" but nowhere near as good as the high praise it received from critics. You can't help but wonder if deals are being made to achieve the hype and praise a lot of current games get these days.

Have 74 hours in my game and still enjoying it. I've done most of the side quests and a few contracts along with the main quest. I'm not a huge open world game person (I like more focused games), but this game has held my interest very well. I'm on the 2nd hardest difficulty and I'd say the combat is decent and good enough, the story and side-quests are engaging, and I keep wanting to play more, so I'd say it's a win after 6 weeks.

Solid 9/10 for me.

Shit game is pushing it and would be denying the things CDPR can actually do very well, but the combat is inexcusable for how poor it is, given how much it is used through out the game.

I remember reading a thread from a guy who was totally convinced that The Witcher 3 had shit combat. He was talking up how he was a veteran of the Souls games, how great he was at other games; and how fundamentally broken TW3 was.

Then he posted his own gameplay video.

It immediately became clear why he hated the combat - he was playing *terribly*. The guy kept rolling around like an idiot. He only used light attacks. He never sidestepped. He never countered a single weapon swing. He used signs really poorly. He locked on to single enemies in the middle of huge group fights. Basically, he played the game like it was Dark Souls...and wondered why he was losing.

So yeah, I now take the "poor combat" complaints with a huge grain of salt. It's not a perfect combat system, but a lot of the complaints simply come down to user error.

i've seen a couple of videos from people and are terrible at playing it, i love crafting, preparing before the battle, taking the potions, using the oils, playing it in hardest difficulty is simply awesome, plus the people complaining are morons that usually watch a couple of videos, the combat has great variety, for example i was going for a sign build and i enjoyed reading the bestiary and the monster weaknesses and it made the combat quite easy even on highest difficulty, knowing the difference between when to roll and dodge and when to lock and when not to makes a huge impact also on combat. Sadly this gen is full of morons with the attention span of a bird that can't be bothered to waste a couple of minutes to read or to analyse what they are doing wrong.

It's an amazing game, which I'll replay again eventually. An easy 9 for me (have a feeling I'll enjoy it more the second time too).

This is why I love when GameSpot gives a game a 10, to see the people come out and say "this game isn't good"

Happened with Metal Gear Solid

Happened with GTA IV

It feels wrong that i still haven't purchased the game

You don't need to, it's not a good one anyway.
