$244.97 basic and $299.97... the dreaded $.97 price code for items that Costco wants to dump asap, which is pretty bad considering Costco get their stock from manufacturer's unwanted/excess stock. Expect more retailers to dump Wii-U systems into their bargin bins soon.

Nintendo in 2012 gave us a console that produces the same visuals as a 2006 console... Has a deluxe version with 32GB storage... charges more than the last two consoles they have made... What self respecting gamer on this forum gives a f*** about the future of this console?

I could ask a similar question to what the "hardcore" gamers have to say about ANYTHING Nintendo these days.

Yes I did and it looks very impressive and a game that I will buy when I get a Wii U but its nothing that can't be done on current hardware.

After I turned 12 I ceased to care about Nintendo, I like playing games that aren't designed for little kids. I will do the same thing I have done the last couple console generations and get the new xbox. Then I will look at other consoles, I had all three this generation, PS3, 360, Wii, but the Wii and PS3 were basically expensive paperweights until I sold them.

Unfortunately he is right.  Wii u is being clearances out at Costco for having over-stock.  People would be idiots not to get one right now.

Better price, but there's still no games out that I want to play on the Wii U yet. They seriously need to add a lot more memory. 32GB is nothing when you compare it to the 320GB XBox 360 and 500GB PS3 Super Slim. They all cost less then the Wii U.

Hot selling item? This isn't the launch of the original Wii. That was a HOT SELLING ITEM and was out of stock for more then a year. The WII U however is sitting on retail shelves and they aren't selling at a steady pace. Even Nintendo had to lower their sales projection for this quarter because of the poor sales.

Seriously though, as much as Nintendo's fans keep trying to downplay it, things are pretty bad for Nintendo right now. Iwata even said he might step down if they fail to meet their next earnings projection, which means bad things. The shareholders were pissed off enough over the 3DS's poor initial sales, and this is the second system Nintendo has released in a row that has performed poorly at launch. The difference is, the 3DS was being sold at a profit before the price slash, so the price slash did not hurt Nintendo that badly. They currently lose money on every Wii U sold, and if they cut the price by $50 or more that means that they will be taking a much bigger hit. The system will have to have a very strong attach ratio, and unfortunately, the Wii's attach ratio was poor.

It's a case of "damned if they do, damned if they don't." The Wii U is about 6 years too late, and for such a whimpy system to release before the PS4 and Xbox 720 are even announced, Nintendo pretty much doomed it out the gate.

Well I guess i'm an idiot then LOL.

It's just $50 bucks off man. It's not like they are clearing them for $150 or something. It probably won't be long until this "clearance" price is their standard MSRP.

I'm holding off for much better than $50 off, especially when it's going to be quite awhile for a decent software library.

I'll get a Wii U in the summer, if I can.

I'm waiting for the games.  Pikmin 3, for one, and the new 3d Mario and Retro's next game.  I'll get one though as long as at least Pikmin 3's out.

If your under the impression that numbers don't matter then I suggest you don't look at the news section on gaming sites in future because A LOT more numbers are coming your way. Also just to be clear me pointing out the difference of sales was to show the difference between core gamer's Nintendo console in comparison to a casual gamer's Nintendo console. Those numbers aren't there because I as a "hardcore" gamer want to beat my chest... Those are a reality check!... really? because it sure seems to be working for the 3ds. Almost all the top selling games are part of their core franchises

Besides the faultering sales at the end of the wii's lifepsan sort of proved how fickle the casual audience really is. The core audience on the otherhand (In this case those who like nintendo's main franchises, not wii fit or wii sports) are the returning customers. They actually buy games.

Non-gamers bought a wii, wii sports/wii fit and that was it. This was why the attache rate for the thing was horrible.

No 360 or PS3 game that is open world looks as good as that game. Most open world games on the other two have poor textures and terrible AA from what I seen.I heard forza horizon looks good, but that is all.And please stop trolling.

Reality check 2: Mario is casual friendly. People who buy Nintendo games got the 3DS when it was $250... The people who saved Nintendo came after the price drop and heavy family friendly marketing.

Nintendo went the wrong way with the Wii U. They should've made the system itself better and went with regular controls.

Not a hard concept to grasp

Only die hard Nintendo fans would pay $150 more for a Wii U over a PS3 or 360. The Wii U is nothing more than a crappier version of a PS3/360 with a tablet controller and 99% fewer games.

What everyone being critical about this point fails to mention is that Nintendo has allowed the user to plug in any USB device they wish to use for storage, including the gargantuan 2 TB portable hard disks available for $100 or less. Better than the 2.5"-only HDD limitation on the PS3, and WAAAAAAY better than the 0.25-16 GB only limitation on the 360. Not only do they cut manufacturing costs, but please the consumer as well.

The Wii was appealing because parents thought it would make their kids exercise when they saw Wii Sports. The Wii U is just another game console, but with a big expensive controller. It has to compete directly with the Xbox 360 and PS3, and that is a battle that it's already losing.

Only die hard Nintendo fans would pay $150 more for a Wii U over a PS3 or 360. clr84651
A brand new, $100 360? WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

Reality check, people that care about graphics THAT much, should play most games on a pc.

It's about keeping up with the competition and Nintendo fails to do so even after releasing a console 7 years after the 360. It's obvious Nintendo thinks making gimmicky controls and sub par systems will continue to lure people in to buying their consoles. The novelty of the Wii controllers wore off and Nintendo needed to make a big step towards making a more powerful system and going back to regular controls in order to compete with Sony and MS. They failed to see it and do it and now they will lose ground big time because of it. Sony failed to release the PS3 the same time as the 360 and price it competitively with the 360 and Sony lost ground big time with the PS3. Nintendo just made even a bigger mistake than Sony did. Sony had better not let MS have the same type of advantages again or else it will be Xbox 1st, PS3 2nd, and Nintendo a distant last as far as consoles go.

Wii U is $400 and 360 and PS3 are $250. Don't act dumb!
