[QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="Phazevariance"]i'm sensing a $10 discount ... max.hy4kYes, because a $10 price drop would generate the sales boost Sony is looking for :P I think it's safer to assume Sony won't cut the price, and will simply introduce a holiday bundle. why would they release a PS3 slim if they weren't cutting the price? When did Sony confirm the PS3 slim was coming out this holiday? Sony "needs" to price cut this holiday season if they have a hope of regaining ground this generation, there's no question about that. The question is whether Sony can afford it, and whether they see sustained long-term growth coming via a price cut.

the PS3 slim has been proven real with photographic evidence to boot, it's already being manufactured and sony have predicted sales of 13 million for fy09
what else do you need?
Well that would be good if true 360 might drop the price of the arcade $50.
But it doesn't make any sense if $50 is what is holding someone back from getting a $400-$500 system.
It's kinda like when I bought my TV for $1100 bucks and I asked to have it delivered to my house. The salesman looked at me weird and said it will cost you $45 to have it delivered. Uh I just spent $1100 bucks I can handled spending an extra $45 not a big deal.

even if it was $50 i'd still reconsider buying a 360 the rrod and paying for online I can't get past that.
True you can never really trust these stupid fanboys..Let's hear it from Sony's own lips, first.

Where is this photographic evidence? You do know someone made a fake slim PS3 photo campaign not that long ago?People have been anticipating a price cut for so long, expecting it to be announced at every conference or major game release.

Activision won't go anywhere the PS3 is planning a price cut at the Tokyo Game Show
http://liveplaystation.webnode.com/news/ps3-price-cut-to-be-announced-at-tokyo-games-show/
once this happens and God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2 the playstations will be flying off the shelves.
Hopefully I see $299 or $250 more people will experience what we playstation 3 users have been experiencing the real next gen with the most reliable system and best games by far.
inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, MLB The Show 09, Resistance 1&2, Warhawk, Uncharted 1 and 2
BEHOLD THE PS3 PRICE CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
simslifer
The 'real' next gen...hahaha.
Agreed... Reliability = Nintendo. Best, most stable hardware there is. No problems with any of it!The ironic thing about that entire statement is that my PS3 busted. Stopped reading discs. Yes, I will be buying another when the 160GB Console drops in price. No, I could not warrant spending $150 to get my 40gb PS3 fixed. Sold it and putting the money towards the 160GB version when the price goes down.
That whole "most reliable" thing really bothers. Perhaps I might be in the minority but, frankly, I've owned all consoles since the Atari 2600 and only ones that have had issues are Sony and MS ones. MS with their 360 (though they fixed that for free) and Sony with their Playstation (original gray one) and PS3. Both stopped reading discs from Sony. Both were after the 1 year warranty and both had to be paid for to be fixed despite the fact that I did nothing to them. So, yea, most reliable really bothers me.
Anyway, yea, bout time a price cut happened. If the 160GB gets dropped to either $450 or $400 I'm in for the 160GB PS3.

Why do people keep meantioning heavy rain like it's going to sell consoles. You might think it looks good but it's never going to sell consoles. It wont sell well and i doubt it'll be recieved well either.

cant really say i blame activision for their decision..
when did the ps3 get it's first price cut?
do you mean when they stripped out all the cool features like the memory card slots and usb ports and the emotion engine?
gutting the hardware was not a price cut it was gutting the hardware.

Didn't the top system (most expensive) go from $599 to $499?

Either there's a jump on 360 demand spiking the price (perhaps a spate of games to be had), demand for the PS3 is tanking because of a dearth of BluRays (and HDTVs for that matter--I believe penetration there is particularly low), or one or the other's not a genuine article or is one that's been messed with (possibility outside the major regions and I know it happens in the Philippines).

Years ago, and mostly as a kneejerk reaction to Microsoft's own price trimming. But that's one price cut to Microsoft's two (or was that three?), and Microsoft was first each time, so it's not out of desperation or in reaction--Microsoft appears to be setting pace and Sony isn't keeping up.[QUOTE="TBoogy"][QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]

Anyway, I think MS has had two. The pro went from $399 to $350, then to $299. The arcade doing pretty much the same, from $299 to $199. I think the elite has only had one, but of course it came out later.

they dont when people talk about sales out of context. for example using sales to determine wheter one product is better then the other.Thought sales don't matter?

[QUOTE="double_heist"][QUOTE="Rza_rectah"] what country is that imaginationland?Rza_rectahPhilippines. thats crazy its probabally because of import/exports cost or something. I'm dead serious, the PS3 got suddenly cheaper. SCE don't officially sell PS3s here. If you go to our "black" markets, they sell them at those prices at usual and sometimes even cheaper (and unmodded too), whereas the Wii is sold at $430 and Xbox at par or higher than the PS3.

Nope, that's China I think.
Besides, we have strong ties with China so maybe that's why?

Yes, the Elite's release coincided with the first price drop.[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="double_heist"] Philippines.double_heistFunny. Must be a recent trend, as I was there recently and prices were pretty much in line there. I dont think they can't mess with the PS3 though, only the 360 and Wii. Last time when you saw it, what was the price of the X360 and PS3? I know Wii is $400 the last time I saw it there. Also, prices change when you go to the "black" markets here. :PI went to SM Mall of Asia, and I think I saw PS3s in the neighborhood of 18-19000 Php and 360's at around 14-15000 Php (memory could be foggy, but when I saw the prices I wasn't too surprised, so they couldn't have been far from their American counterparts after you figure conversion of about 47 Php = $1).
Didn't see any consoles in the seedier places, though--mostly games and movie anthologies. You're right about the PS3 being a tougher nut to crack, that and there's less incentive since BluRays are a bit tougher to come by and more expensive. But I wouldn't put it past them to sell knockoffs that look like PS3s. After all, knockoff phones are pretty common in the black markets.
People have been anticipating a price cut for so long, expecting it to be announced at every conference or major game release.
What do people actually expect from a price cut? That the PS3 is going to suddenly dominate? A price cut isn't going to make the PS3 cheaper and easier to develop for.
AnnoyedDragon
last price cut sony dominated for around 8 months until 360 lowered it's price to bargain $199
Actually the day one ps3 had backwards compatibility and the $600 one was 60 GB, but it still was too much.I feel sorry for people who bought the PS3 day one. No backward compatibility, 40 GB, and $600 price tag. What a joke.

ud love that but it wont happen it's most likely m$ it's known to abandon it's console
One time, and it was forced to do so; the Xbox was a money sink and they'd run out of XChips. The 360 is in the black; why would Microsoft abandon a moneymaker?[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]

Far from it. They got a bump, yes, but since it was still the most expensive kid on the block, that bump went down quick. Unfortunately, that bump came after a similar bump at Microsoft--after they'd made their own first price cut.[QUOTE="2-10-08"]Actually the day one ps3 had backwards compatibility and the $600 one was 60 GB, but it still was too much.So much so you could get a 360 AND a PS2 for less than that day-one 60GB PS3...if you could find one.I feel sorry for people who bought the PS3 day one.
