Its hardly a fair fight; $250 3DS versus $250 PS Vita

Little Big Planet with touchscreen integration is by far the best promise of a handheld game ever.

Elitro
It looks pretty much like the same game I have on PS3 but with touch controls and some more motion controls. Personally I would prefer games that offer more unique experiences that I can't get on home consoles.

The 3DS really looks over-priced next to the PS Vita. Either Sony is losing a ton of money or Nintendo is really ripping you off. I dont see how the 3DS can hold its price point when the Vita launches.

pencru

Sony is losing a ton of money

They're selling it at a loss.

Nintendo is ripping you off

Considering its hardware isn't as capable as what the Vita is toting, then yes, they are ripping us off.

Yeah, this bothers me personally. On principle alone I know I should wait for a revision or maybe a price drop (or both).

Nintendo has had a solid dominance over the handheld market for over two decades. Its a different scenario.

Doesn't matter. THey had a dominance in the console market for a decade as well. Every gen, its a restart.

Of course it matters its foolish to say it doesn't. People always look at brands. Besides that hand held and console markets are completely different markets.

Nintendo fans on this site have become incredibly stalwart in thier defence of the big N.

Well if The Vita can pull off, Call of duty and battlefield console experience on the go? things will get intereseting

charizard1605

They will, but how many people (and I'm talking about the mainstream consumer here who only plays Call of Duty, and buys the new game every year) will actually want to buy a whole new system, then a copy of the game for said system, and then play the game on a much smaller screen with reduced graphical fidelity?

fps are the in thing.

the whole smaller screen thing isnt a big issue, Nintendo has been making a killing off the idea for decades,

Cod and Battlefield have really dedicated following, if the Vita can pull off the transfer from console to handheld as displayed at the sony presser then it could be a win. these people are looking to game on the go with thier friend in clans wherever thet are, I'm not saying its going to set the world on fire but there is a huge market to capture for mobile fps mp. The Vita could the answer.

GC and N64 had all the Ninty 1st party games but got stomped in library by PS 1/2...

nitekids2004

I don't understand your point. What do the N64 and Gamecube have to do with the 3DS, which has incredible third party support? Games like Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Contra, Kingdom Hearts, Assassin's Creed, Batman, Mega Man etc have all been confirmed for the system. Some of these are due for release this year. What's your point?

Sheep are always saying the 1st Party Games will win it for them.... but look at N64 and GC. 3DS still lacks 3rd Party Support IMO. Its too early to start proclaiming a winner.

TC is just pointing out the hardware difference and the price. Didn't even understood why it suddenly shifted to games.

?
3DS still lacks third party support IYO?
In your opinion?
Your opinion?

Where do opinions come in? Look at that list. That's not even half of the games confirmed to be on the system. I haven't even listed games like Ace Combat, Sonic Generations, Shinobi, Heroes of Ruin, Dead or Alive etc... and that list above represents the 3DS lacking third party support?

There is no room for opinions here. Either the 3DS has the third party support, or it doesn't, and either way, that would be a FACT. The fact is, the 3DS has the third party support. Your opinion would come in if you were to consider whether the third party support APPEALS to you. It can't dismiss the existence of said third party support altogether. Really, that's like me saying 'there is no Playstation 3, IMO.' In 2011.

Is the 3ds price a rip off yes. The hardware is is old

However its hard to make a bad mario game. Just revamp the graphics and add 3ds to the title.

As for vita, if psp has shown anything its that sony doesn't understand the concept of a portable game.

This is how the 3DS can hold its price.

1st party titles almost every Nintendo fan wants.

Sorry to say but Sony doesnt have exteremly heavy 1st party hitters like Nintendo does. This fight may be over before it started regardless of the fantastic price of the Vita.

Shirokishi_

Its true that Nintendo has always done well with handhelds but up until the Playstation 1 they had dominated the console market and they also had Mario on those systems yet Sony still beat them for 2 gens...

Things can change depending on how the market reacts to your launch price, your launch offerings, word-of-mouth and 3rd party support for the platform that may find it easier to make games on Sony's handheld rather than Nintendo's?

For the people saying Mario or other first party Nintendo games will make 3DS beat Vita, are you being serious? I mean really? Didn't exactly help the N64 and GC. And besides, Vita has a ton of great and popular games too. You say Mario is a system seller. What do you think is going to happen when COD makes its debut on Vita? A fully featured online enabled COD, probably with cross platform play with a PS3 COD. The masses will flock to that far quicker than they will for a new Mario. Especially a 3D one, and we all know 3D Mario doesn't begin to touch the sales of 2D Mario. Plus Vita will have better games in general anyway. At the same price as the 3DS, why anyone would get a 3DS instead of Vita is beyond me.

But at the same time I can almost guarantee that the Vita will have a mediocre lineup whereas Nintendo does have some solid games on the way,

3DS- better games

Vita- better hardware.

3Ds will still outsell the PS Vita. I love how Sony fanboys believe so strongly in Sony. Its hilarious how Sony can do no wrong and they will always win, even though they've done very little winning this gen. The golden Sony days are OVER.

Vita hasn't been released yet, and the release that 3DS has had has been lackluster. 3DS may have some great games on the horizon, but it cant claim a vastly superior library yet.

And what innovation?

Because they're Nintendo fanboys that will blindly buy whatever Nintendo comes out with despite the competition being vastly superior in every imaginable way? Yeah, I get that reason. I mean a real reason. Better hardware. Better games. Same price. Only the most blind of Nintendo fanboys would get a 3DS instead of Vita. At launch the Vita will have a library of games rivalling the entire 3DS library up to that point. As time goes on the gap between the amount of quality games will only widen. When Vita comes out the 3DS will have been out for about 8 months. Vita will have as many good games on day one than 3DS has managed to get in its entire 8 or so months on the market. Now imagine the Vita library 8 months from then. Vita will have a better library than 3DS.

Especially a 3D one, and we all know 3D Mario doesn't begin to touch the sales of 2D Mario. Plus Vita will have better games in general anyway. At the same price as the 3DS, why anyone would get a 3DS instead of Vita is beyond me.

The answer is not that hard. I'm sure you can figure out why someone would choose a 3DS over the Vita. :]

People blindly buying what from who? You know the Vita launch lineup? You have read reviews and compared the Vita games with the 3DS games? Hey Pot! Hey Kettle!

All I see here is fortune telling. Maybe someone would rather play Luigi's Mansion rather than Little Big Planet. Maybe someone would rather play Mario Kart than Wipeout. Maybe someone would rather play Resident Evil Revelations than Uncharted. I guess we're not allowed to without being called a blind fanboy.

For the people saying Mario or other first party Nintendo games will make 3DS beat Vita, are you being serious? I mean really? Didn't exactly help the N64 and GC. [QUOTE="khoofia_pika"]Vita- specs and raw power 3DS- games and innovation Isn't that vaguely familiar to you?khoofia_pika

Vita hasn't been released yet, and the release that 3DS has had has been lackluster. 3DS may have some great games on the horizon, but it cant claim a vastly superior library yet.

And what innovation?

3D without glasses isn't innovation? :o And by the time Vita releases, the 3D will have the following games in its library- Ocarina 3D, MGS3, Icarus, Mario Kart, Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2, Resident Evil: Mercenaries, Shin Megami Tensei, Star Fox, Cave Story, Paper Mario.... you were saying?

So because Nintendo decided to utilize the 3D without glasses technology, the handheld is "innovative?" Certainly not in any functional way.

All of those games are coming out this year before Vita? That's a fair headstart. But it doesn't mean that the Vita will be without games.

I'm hoping and expecting PS2 like success with the Vita. Sony, don't let me down now. *Crosses fingers*hexashadow13

At this point I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case. Cheap, great launch and exclusives line up, great graphics, backwards compatible with downloadable PSP games, a second analog nub. If it doesn't succeed, I'll be shocked.

Do you happen to have a crystal ball? Just because Vita may have a good launch lineup does not mean its guaranteed not to slow down next year. Also, games get delayed, and its possible that several of those launch titles could be pushed back. Here's the thing, the 3DS also has excellent third-party support and Nintendo is often quiet about the games that they are developing.

As time goes on, you could see the 3DS emerge with the stronger library while Vita falters. The 3DS is getting Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart, OOT, Starfox 64 3D, and Kid Icarus: Uprising this year. That's four major Nintendo franchises along with a franchise that is finally seeing a new game after so many years. And that's not even counting games like MGS3 and Sonic Generations which are both titles from major franchises.

I won't argue that Vita has a good launch libary, but stop acting like the 3DS will have nothing this year. Nintendo is putting out several hig-profile titles over the course of the year that will ensure the 3DS is in good shape.

In the end, it will all come down to the system that third parties support more. Right now, both handhelds enjoy good support from third-parties.

Could Sony widen the gap and make the Vita a more attractive system for thrid-parites? Of course, but its still too early to write off the 3DS by acting like Vita will blow it out of the water. Nintendo seems to be prepping several major hitters for this year, and it will be difficult for Vita to counter the lineup fully.

Regardless of how good Sony's lineup is, the difficult task will be finding a game that can redirect people away from Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart.

Im going with Vita, its a day 1 buy for me. 3DS games dont appeal to me at all, sure i played Mario and Zelda but that was 10 years ago and im sick of the same stories. Galaxy was good but everything else for me is meh. Sony franchises are what matters to me, i also gave the 3DS a chance by playing a few games at BestBuy. Pilot Wings looked like some N64 game.

PSP had its fair share of games like this in japan but you should thank the pirates and hackers for not letting anyone think about localizing them
