What's wrong with it?

topgunmv

It's a picture of real life.

Is there a rendered picture of the same scene for comparison or something? Why does ign have it with game screens?

I think it's the picture just below it in this thread.

After all that talk about how cows are the loudest fanboys, the only thing I have seen for the past few days on these forums are PS3 bashing threads, form lems and even sheep.TintedEyes

No way Alan Wake running on a nice HD TV is going to blow every game away in the lighting dept.

The lighting in Killzone 2 is godlike. And eaven if it will beat Heavy Rain, there is God of War III comming out march, witch has extremly good graphics...

Can you explain why the KZ2 lighting is not only better then Alan Wake but as you put it "godlike". Go ahead and explain.

Read the reviews about the game. there isnt a console game out there that touches its lighting, Uncharted 2 is close

Don't think so.

If you honestly think that is better than Killzone 2's lighting, you need to get glasses.

Ya that is what I thought you have no idea. Since YOU said KZ2 lighting is godlike then explain how it is better then Alan Wake. I am not asking for reviews of KZ2 I am asking you to back up what you said. Compare the lighting of the two games. If you have no idea that the lighting is better then that is fine but just wondering why you said it. You can just say in your own way how KZ2 has better lighting since you made the comment.

We have to wait until alan wake is released before we can say these type of things. however I do not think that AW (Luigi Mansion HD) will be more ground breaking or critically acclaimed than Heavy Rain.

too bad they canceled the pc version. Don't have a xbox and now I won't have a game to utilize the quad-core haha. This game looks good, but somethin about looks, i dunno... God of War has the lush colorful feel and the videos of this game have a very sterile and almost limited color scale. Obviously, thats just my opinion

i won't act as a PS3 fanboy here, i am more hyped for AW than HR, but :

1-Do you think survival horror game can sell on the x360 ???? i dun think so.

2- HR is too differnt to be compared to AW, luckily it delievered, it's AA here and AAA on metacritic, and the user reviews are surprisngly good.

3-graphically, HR demo was unbelievable, AW has very very good gfx, but knowing the x360, i am sure there are some compromises that we will know about when the game is in our hands.

and btw, it seems you are jealous you won't be playing HR :P .

You are right and I am sorry you did not say it first so i was was wrong. My question still goes to the person that did say it though lol.

As far as light goes the whole thing about about AW is light fighting the dark. I would look at some of the game videos and what they are doing with their light is amazing. I am not going to sit hear and say one light is better then another light but considering one of the main focuses of AW is light no one should downplay it at all. I have been very impressed so far from what I have seen. I think as far as graphics AW could be better then KZ2 as a whole but I will have to see the game first but I am very impressed so far. I need to see scale and what not but so far like I have said I am impressed. It is still just dev shots though. Like I have said though I will wait till game comes out or at least a wider range of videos.

I think Alan Wake will be fun. And it will probably sell more than Heavy Rain... but as a gamer, what do I care if it sells more??? I've played half way through Heavy Rain and I can say... there's nothing I've seen of Alan Wake that makes it clear it will have better gameplay or graphics... It could end up better in either, or both, categories but until I play... I really can't say, and neither can you. Because the truth is that Heavy Rain is freakin AWESOME. It is easily the freshest thing to come along to gaming in a long, long time.

And the fact that you say Heavy Rain is just a linear path only proves that you know nothing about the game.

Lastly... even if Alan Wake were to have better graphics AND gameplay than Heavy Rain, GOWIII will crush them both ;)

You are mixing up two different issues. Alan Wake uses light as a matter of gameplay and it seems like they find many creative ways to weave it into the story/gameplay. That's awesome. The lighting in the game is also fairly good............ But there hasn't been a single vid yet that has lighting (in the technical sense) that is as good as KZ2's!!!

I haven't read all of the other posts you guys have made, but if that is what the debate is about... it shouldn't be, lol.

Whatever, they're not lying about their game... they did start off with a completely open world game & scrapped the idea b/c the game wasn't going to be good that way. Cows & lems are funny... Alan Wake is going to be good. It's okay! Lol. If you're a cow, you have MORE than enough to be satisfied with.

I'm not ready to rule out the possibility they are lieing about their game until we see actual gameplay footage of daytime. Not to say I think they're lieing, they just don't have my trust at the moment.

maybe on the other stuff but graphics? look at the shot that was posted - http://i46.tinypic.com/2ibkdfl.png - nice jagged arches its pretty obvious that theyre using darkness to cover up for detail walking around at night and you want see the detail of objects and textures? well thats too bad because theyre going to fade to black as you get closer but you can shine your flashlight on them right? maybe if youre 10 feet away from it nevermind that they use this circular camera setup at night that leaves everything outside of that circle blacked out (almost a 1/4 the screen) heavy rain doesnt do any of that

Some of the most interesting this gen ;)

Just to warn you that post you just made left room for many insults. Honestly it is to easy to rip on but i am sure you will get a few.

How is it easy to rip on, heavy rain has gameplay. I mean you guys say it's a movie. But it's funny it's even the site you post on calls it a game. So I guess gamespot is run by cows right?

From my understanding kz2's lighting was nothing special on a technical side, but that some people thought the end result looked nifty.

topgunmv

Well then your understanding is very well misinformed. During the media blitz for KZ2, all the buzz was surrounding the technical breakthroughs... one of the largest highlights being the lighting. EVERY gaming site wrote about it... where were you???

Links? halo3 has the most technically impressive lighting on consoles as far as I know.

Lol, then you are truly in the 'dark' ages! I don't need to provide links... you can merely read the previews and reviews of the game... pick a site, any site! Start here on GS... don't enter the argument if you're ignorant on the subject. If you're unaware of KZ2's front running lighting technology... it's b/c you chose to ignore any previews or articles on the game. And honestly, I doubt that you're really that ignorant of the fact... you would have had to not be in System Wars for the 3-4 mths surrounding the games release... As it's been a pretty well publicized fact.

Maybe it is easy to rip on a QTE game... but Heavy Rain isn't a QTE game :?. So you'll excuse me if I don't get the correlation...

See, that's the problem with fanboys... they 'rip' on games without actually knowing anything about them.

[QUOTE="DeadMagazines"][QUOTE="Sgt_Hale"][QUOTE="DeadMagazines"] Yep, following on screen prompts = "interesting". LoL.

Spoken like someone who hasn't played it! If you had... you'd know it's much more than following onscreen prompts. Then again, you probably know that and you're just looking for an elementary argument to bash the game. Meh, fanboys.

Enlighten me then, tell me what's so interesting about the gameplay. Nothing story related, strictly gameplay..tell me.

The two are connected... no other game's gameplay gives you control of the story like Heavy Rain does. It's the same reason The Sims sells millions upon millions of copies... there is something distinctively addictive about being able to control the lives of your characters. That's why sandbox games became so popular in the 1st place. But instead of placing you in a sandbox, and giving you the same selection of options no matter where you are in that sandbox... Heavy Rain urges you to explore that world and always has new surprises and options for you to discover on your own. It is an adventure game in the truest sense. Plus... if you separated the story from Alan Wake (or any game besides an FPS), the gameplay hardly matters. There are exceptions, but great games are the ones that tie the two together.

Last time I checked the story was part of a game. For semantics sakes I have to say it was a revolution in how QTE's should play out in games, and giving your choices actual weight.
