The Xbox 360 version was great but they didn't have time to polish it.

The PS3 version had EVERYTHING ready(story, quests, landscapes, graphics), so they had ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD to polish this and get rid of these issues.

They could have EASILY gotten rid of these issues with the 360 if they would have had more time. It was delayed most likely because they were making it better, not adding new stuff.
RyuHayabusaX
Adding new stuff? The PS3 version cannot run all of the DLC on the 360/PC version.....so most of the DLC will not be on the PS3. I'm guessing it will only hold the Knights of the Nine and maybe Shivering Isles.....

The PS3 version of Oblivion isn't a simple port of the game either, although players who have picked up the 360 version will be very familiar with the control scheme. For one thing, the PS3 version has been optimized to take advantage of the Cell processor and hardware that the system offers. As a result, the game runs a lot faster than the 360 build. Entering dungeons or buildings results in a load of 3-5 seconds, compared to the 7-10 seconds or longer for the 360 version of the game. Similarly, the amount of framerate drops or hitches that cropped up in the wilderness as you accessed a new area on the 360 have been substantially reduced on the PS3 version. There is a plan to completely eradicate these issues as the game nears release, as well as fixing a number of bugs that were present in the other builds. Kiss the item duplication glitch goodbye.

The visual presentation of Oblivion has also been significantly enhanced. While it was a beautiful title on the 360, far off environmental details often displayed low resolution textures. This has been fixed with new shaders dedicated to rendering the foreground cleanly with sharper details, so rocky landscapes now have craggy appearances instead of smooth, non-distinct surfaces. While there is still a fair amount of pop-in that occurs (which can't be helped due to the size of the world), the draw distance is farther than the 360 version. As a result, screens from the PS3 version should approach those from high end PCs running Oblivion, which is an impressive feat.

Your a noob, the 360 gets the shader upgrade in a downloadable patch, do some research. Oh and the load times are only faster because blueray is SOOOOOO slow that bethesda had to practically put the game on the disk twice so it could find data quicker LOL, owned!

i guess you're blind.

Ok. so add "better detail on the foreground" to my list. These are all graphical tweaks - do they make it a better game?

well, since you have a whole list
i guess... yes.

So, even with no gameplay changes at all - you think it's the better game because there is more graphical detail? Are you going to be running in the woods saying "Wow, the 360 version didn't have that blade of grass!" or running into a dungeon saying "Wow, it took me 3 seconds less to get into this dungeon than it did on the 360 version!"? :|

yes, better graphics usually do enhance a players gaming experience, which is the reason why we've been getting new consoles every 5-6 years :|

there's no arguing it... you have two of the same game with the same gameplay, but one version has graphical tweaks, less slow down, and shorter load times... which game would you choose?

the answer is obvious :| quit kidding yourself here.

Yes, since fanboys have claimed that the PS3 version will be "teh downgrade."

Hardly ownage considering the 360 will get updates to fix the same problems.

If they waited anothe ryear, then yeah teh 360 would have been probably even better than that. So really, you can't judge due to such a time lapse.. a month or two would have been dismissiable, but a year.. i dont think so.

It should run better. It came out LAST YEAR!!!! If they can't get things better by then, they have problems. Also, all PS3's have HDD. That gives Bethesda something to cache more info and rely less on onboard memory.

The patch for 360 should clear all this up though.

Obviously the game will be better on the PS3, what do you expect. The game has been out for a year now, obviously they will make the loading faster / less fps drops / less glitches and bugs / add more content. What did you expect? Lol. *yawn*

The preview says that the PS3 version will only feature the Knights of Nine content. Any idea whether it will be able to get the shivering Isles also? This does seem to confirm what 1up said about the PS3 not getting the extra content. To be honest I'd take the Knights of Nine and Shivering Isles expansions over some improved loading times...especially Shivering Isles, that just looks dope.

Aren't the draw distance and shader enhancements being patched into the 360 version?lowe0
patching console games is wrong, what say you take oblivion to your firends house and he doesn't have live? you get the original version, plus the original data can't be patched like it can on pc. patching on pcs is fine but its not good to do on consoles.

And I love everyone that's using the PC version as a crutch. Classic SW behavior.

Here we have an example of the human's ability to reason at work to the fullest.

Instead of just saying. Yeah, I guess it is better everyone has a cop out. I don't care about development time or timeframes.

I game on my own terms and I'm so glad I passed over the other two versions of Oblivion.

I think Xbox 360 version is going to be as same as PS3 version only when the patch is being available. The point of the topic is that PS3 version isn't downgraded while Xbox fanboys have been claiming it is.

Proof that IGN is worthless:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/751/751136p1.html

This is just one example of their preview that reads like it should be a good game. The only downfall they mention is the graphics and talk it up the rest of the interview and score it a 4. One editor has even stated they talk a game up and err more on the side of being optimistic in a preview. IGN is too lenient.

-Pale

GS also hype games on previews and then flops them.

Doesn't dismiss my opinion that IGN is worthless.

Every site is inconsistent, I imagine that means by one review they can be considered 'worthless'?

I was referencing the preview and review as a whole, but more importantly, you can't say by one review they can be considered 'worthless'.  If you read my original post you'd see I said it was just one example.  I guess if I have to I can gather more examples of why it's my opinion that IGN is not only too lenient, but worthless review wise.

It's cool that you are getting a good game, and finally got some good news about it, but there have been other previews stating the opposite of some of what they have improved with about a year of extra dev time but it seems a little pre-mature when the bad press still outweighs the good press for the game to immediately call it ownage or assume the game is going to score better on this site.  Which is ultimately all that matters on SW.

1up, never said the PS3's gfx were bad. The only thing they said was that PS3 cannot run all the DLC content on the PC/360 version!!!!!! And that Beth will have to pick which to add. And from the looks of it, PS3 won't get Shivering Isles, which by far makes it the inferior version.

That won't stop the reviewer at this site to say the X360 version is infinitely superior to the PS3 version due to extra lighting on a tree branch somewhere.

BLAUcopter

Your a noob, the 360 gets the shader upgrade in a downloadable patch, do some research. Oh and the load times are only faster because blueray is SOOOOOO slow that bethesda had to practically put the game on the disk twice so it could find data quicker LOL, owned!

Remind us why we should believe the PS3 channel of Ign again. Not forgetting this is the preview, that tells everyone go and buy the game. You know like they do for every game. ps3-nikita

Does IGN have a history of lying?????? Or is it that you think by questioning IGN's credibilty you might sleep better tonight

[QUOTE="miss_kitt3n"][QUOTE="Acenso"]To think. A Year old port being mininally better than the old version is the best news cows have heard in months:lol:KrunkMastaX

Cows were once Kings but now they are the Jesters:(

Blame Ken, the old senile fool:evil:

Oh so now you admit it?

Admit what? That Ken should be in a nursing home?

That cows used to be the kings and are now the jesters. I thought you were pro PS3 and a huge cow to the end.

[QUOTE="HeedleGlavin"][QUOTE="SambaLele"][QUOTE="HeedleGlavin"][QUOTE="SambaLele"][QUOTE="HeedleGlavin"]So, because the PS3 version has shorter load times, less slow down and more draw distance - it owns the 360 version? :|-Pale

"While it was a beautiful title on the 360, far off environmental details often displayed low resolution textures. This has been fixed with new shaders dedicated to rendering the foreground cleanly with sharper details, so rocky landscapes now have craggy appearances instead of smooth, non-distinct surfaces"

i guess you're blind.

Ok. so add "better detail on the foreground" to my list. These are all graphical tweaks - do they make it a better game?

well, since you have a whole list
i guess... yes.

So, even with no gameplay changes at all - you think it's the better game because there is more graphical detail? Are you going to be running in the woods saying "Wow, the 360 version didn't have that blade of grass!"? :|

So everything added to the techincal side of the game isn't considered an improvement? Both games are the same gameplay wise, yet one looks slightly better than the other. Doesn't that make one superior to the other?

nah, This is SW, and its on the PS3, so its automatically worse.

/Joke

The load times would be slower, if they did not duplicate the game on the BR disk !!! Tehy said themselves, plus they had a whole year to optimize loading times

The patch is coming to 360, so no big deal here

And the DL content still does not fit in PS3 ram !!!

Plus the game has less AA, and FAR worst textures, notice the lower res grass ? The lower res textures on rocks and the fallen tree ? Just a huge downgrade here
