@hardwenzen: Overpriced, sure. But biggest ripoff of the 21st century? Come'on man, the Atari Box just happened. Did you already forget that thing?

How can such an outdated hardware be anywhere near $350!? This thing has trouble with 3D graphics in 720p, and it costs just $50 less than a PS5. The Switch OLED is now more expensive than the Series S, which is underpowered on its own, but is still miles stronger than the Switch.
They sold us toys. They sold us cardboard. Now they're selling us 2012 hardware for almost the exact same price a 10tflops system is being sold for.
This might be the biggest ripoff of the 21st century.
So, don't buy it. I probably won't, but it's a luxury item. People buy $10,000 watches. What's the harm?
I have some nice watches myself. If you know what you're buying, watches will only increase with price. The two cannot be compared.

Okay, a super nice car. They lose value off the lot. C'mon, man, don't move the goalpost. You knew what I meant.
B-b-b-b-but it's all about PORTABILITY!
I'm so off the Nintendo bandwagon again. We'll see what happens next gen
You'll hate them no matter what, like all Nintendo haters do. When Nintendo has a successful console, y'all nitpick and tear it apart. I was wondering what the haters would do for the Switch. It was getting great exclusives and decent third party support while selling very well. Yet y'all manage to hate on it as well and call it Nintendo's worst console. You can't make this up. lol.
All it took was a slightly less upgrade Switch news just to piss-off the local SW users is funny & sad at the same time😂🤣
They were going to nitpick any Nintendo news. Nintendo is very polarizing. People either like them or hate them. The haters will either go full on console war with the attacks, or act like a concerned fan. "My Switch is collecting dust."
Eh, I don’t think it’s exactly a 1:1 comparison here. Firstly Nintendo typically don’t sell their systems at a loss and while I certainly don’t mind companies that do, obviously, I don’t think that it’s something that companies should be obligated to do. I don’t mind them selling their products for a bit of a profit, it is a business after all.
Secondly as much as some people want to downplay the portability factor it is still very much a factor. The Switch does have a screen while the other two consoles do not so that certainly is a cost factor. Going to need a breakdown of a bill of materials to determine if Nintendo is indeed overcharging consumers and for how much.
At the end of the day value for a product is always a personal choice.
It’s funny how this new Switch model is causing so much angst here. It’s just a “premium” model and doesn’t affect the games on it. It’s not required to make games run any better so it’s not like it’ll split the user base or anything. If you already have a Switch you can still keep playing and enjoying the games for it the same as always.
And $50 more than the Xbox Series S that supports 4K and ray tracing as well as on the go gaming in 1080p with xcloud

Well, maybe its time that they do sell them at a loss? And there's multiple reasons for that. Firstly, they can easily afford it, especially after the Switch. Secondly, their games sell a shitton, are sold for full price from day one to day z and are guaranteed to cost less in production than AAA from another devs. Third, they're in the mobile business. Knowing how more expensive it is/can be, if you want to offer decent specs, you have no choice but to sell them at loss. They're the ones who went into the mobile space, so they have nobody to blame. If they try to not sell at a loss, and at the same time, not go over $400, your system will be....... a Switch.
@hardwenzen: I would agree with you, but then look at the price of any Samsung or Apple phone, trash specs and overpriced at $1k and higher. What's the difference between a switch and an iPhone? I guess if you think of it like that, Nintendo can charge whatever they like.
Well... at least you can watch Netflix on that phone.
i would agree its a ripoff and way too overprice. but people will still buy it because its nintendo.
@hardwenzen: the XSS is really like 20X faster than the Switch docked. Remember this is RDNA2 tflops so that 4 tflop Series S is more like 7 in GCN and the switch is based on like old Kepler architecture. The CPU is infinitely better as is the IO. I have a Switch (given as a gift) and haven't touched it since BOTW.
@hardwenzen: They don’t have to sell their systems at a loss though. I like deals as much as anyone else but this is a business after all. This has been pretty much the only business for Nintendo.
Mobile? The Switch is a console/handheld hybrid. The only mobile market they entered into was with some of the games they made on iOS and Android.
The typical Nintendo Derangement Syndrome exhibiting by the Nintendo haters in System Wars. Just like the same type of hatred against a certain former president.

Is that what you tell yourself when you see any kind of cricism of anything Nitendo related? Cuz if that's the case, you're not the only Nintendo lover that is in the same boat.
While cows and lems poop on eachother, NOBODY is allowed to call out Nintendo's bullshit because Nintendo can't do anything wrong.

Okay, but what about the Switch 2, in, lets say 2023? You know damn well that Nintendo will not charge more than $399.99, and unless there's some kind of breakthrough in the mobile tech (doubtful), the system will be as outdated for 2023 standards as the original Switch was for 2017. If they lose money like Sony and MS, there's a much better chance of good hardware. I have no idea what's considered good in the mobile space, especially two years from now, but the principle is the same. If you can afford to lose some money on each console sold (at the beginning), it ain't a bad idea, especially when your first party sells this many copies and for the full price at all times. Hell, if nobody gives a crap about the visuals on a Nintendo system, they can at least do it for the 60fps sake, cuz nobody sane will deny the fact that playing at a stable 60fps is much more enjoyable than 15-30fps.
@hardwenzen: It doesn’t matter. There’s nearly 100 million people who are enjoying the product that Nintendo is putting out there right now. Their current business model is obviously doing just fine. They want to stick to a certain price point on their hardware and they want to do that from selling their product at a profit. There’s nothing wrong with that. 🤷♂️

Sweet jesus what are those numbers.

Okay🤷♂️If what's on offer is fine with you, then its all good. No reason to even release a Switch 2 tbh.
@hardwenzen: Nice try but that’s not how it works. If that were the case then there’d be no reason to release a PS6 or another Xbox console. The current ones are fine for now but people are going to want upgrades to those systems after awhile. If the only viable thing was simply cutting edge power then everyone would be a PC gamer.

Us, cows, we want upgrades. Same applies to lems. Assuming the demands for your Switch doesn't decrease too much, there's no reason to release a Switch 2. A complete waste of money on your and Nintendo's end.
I'm not sure why Nintendo upped the price on 4 year old tech with an updated screen. Specs are otherwise the same right?
Exact same. The Switch is still selling like crazy, so they don't have to lower the price of the OG version;
If the OG version was lowered to 250. This could've costed 300.
But since the OG is still at 300. They can't launch this newer, better version for the same price.

They kinda do have to lower it. Everyone does, why not a Nintendo product?
Tbh it's a little rich for cows to call out Nintendo on this. When a system is popular, the prices stay high regardless of the tech inside.
I remember the PS2 was £170+ way past the garbage tech insides worth. Same with the PS3 and probably the PS4. The PS4 had something around the GTX 750 Ti with a CPU so bad, you can't really buy it. And it cost more than the Series S did when it launched. The Series S cost less than the Xbox One and PS4 base consoles as of November last year. PS4 is STILL £259 on Amazon. The Series S is £250 and it is much more powerful.
They all do this, and Sony is certainly no stranger to it. I remember these prices because whenever I looked into buying one late in it's life span, I'd be deterred by the price because it was worthless tech.
In my opinion it makes no sense for anyone to do this. They can make money from me with the games and services, make the hardware the easy way in.
That's where the Series S is amazing in my opinion.

Look above on the ps2 price cuts. No such thing as almost 5 years old and zero price cuts.

Nintendo doesn't devalue their games and hardware like Sony because people are consistently willing to pay, just like they do with Apple. Only the most beloved companies can get away with this approach. The others end up in the bargain bin. People might not like to hear it but it's the simple truth.

I did, we didn't get the lower end of the price cuts in the UK until the system was worthless. At the same time the PS2 was £179 the GC and OG Xbox was much cheaper, around £130.
I know tthat was for different reasons, but in terms of tech, the OG Xbox smashed the PS2. And there was quite a few good games on it still.

That's UK, tho. Completely another planet😎
If we're looking at the US (most likely the same in Canada), the price drops weren't uncommon, and that thing was selling a lot. So "don't lower the price of what's selling" doesn't apply cuz its a PS2 we're talking about.
I've been saying it for awhile, Nintendo fans are the real cows. No one milks their fanbase harder than Nintendo.
Very true.
Who is saying you have to buy the new system? I see nothing about that that says I need to upgrade, so I'm good with my launch Switch. This is for people that don't have one already and liker spending money.
The best thing to do, even Nintendo fans, is to ignore this hardware. Let Nintendo take the profit loss. It’s overpriced. Just no way else to put it.
@nnoyinghusband: It’s costing Nintendo about $313 to produce it, so the price is just right.
Is this number official and accurate?
