http://criminalcrackdown.blogspot.com/2007/04/my-response-to-gamespot-and-reviews-in.html

He liked 1up and ign's review and agreed with both the postivies and negatives of what they said.

However, he was puzzled at gamespot score of his game.

Read his blog to understand why.

btw, this game is going to be so much fun. cant wait.

Poor form.

Jaffe should by now realize he won't please everyone, and that everyone's opinion may differ from what he wants or expects. He should except the review for what it is, there is no need to blog against it. What this cmoes across as is a director crying over spilt milk.

Personally, this guy sounds like a typical fanboy of his own game. Learn from mistakes and don't wave your name around like it's the word of god.

Uh, no point in complaining about it Jaffe.

I mean, he got some good reviews, he should be happy with that. Not everyone is going to love Calling All Cars.

I don't agree with that. Reading some parts of his blogs shows that he's able to admit flaws of the game he made.

Why are you getting so defensive about a blog that is not yours? I'll post what and when I damn well please, thanks.

Saying those things doesn't retract the purpose of the blog, it merely a preemptive move to cover up that he's essentially complaining about someone's opinion that he doesn't agree with.

look, the bottom line is GameSpot's review/scoring approach is a problem, in that final scores are not indicative of whether a game really is fun or not. Motorstorm, Lost Planet and Chromehounds are excellent examples of games that aren't well-rounded but perform very well in what they're good at...and if played for their strengths, are much better than their score would suggest.

so the question is: should every game have to be well-rounded? How much does "sound" really matter in a generation where people are replacing their in-game music with music off their HDD's? What if a dev wants to make a game like Chromehounds that is purely about the online experience? What about Virtua Fighter, which got docked for not having online?

I've been saying it for years: game reviews here are like beauty pageants. the prettiest contestant rarely wins...it's the one that's the most well-rounded. but is that winner may not be the one YOU want to take home.

Solution is simple: use reviews as your tool to help guide you into what to expect from a game. They should not be your final decision unless there is a unanimous flaw in a game and its in a critical place for you, relative to what kinds of games you prefer.

Taking a reviewers opinion and fixing a mistake are 2 diffrent things. I agree with gamespot, he should have shot a bit higher in the way of content for that game.

I completely agree. But some elements of what he wrote, preatty much shows that he really wasn't taking that too seriously.

Even tho he didn't have to do it, he simply can. I guess I can let him bit** about it, since I'm not in such a bad mood today :P

come on. that game doesnt look fun at all. at its core, its basically a multiplayer game. the game definitly doesnt serve well as a single player experience, which is why it got the score it did on gamespot. the score was justified, so he should stop crying like a wittle beach

In the end, the game will be a blast. But the point being how long will it be a blast. I think thats the major gripe people have with the game, that its a blast but it just won't last for too long. In that department I can see the game not living up as many reviwers point out it lacks much content. I agree with them, david jaffe could have gone the extra mile and provide a little more unlockables here and there. but better luck next time jaffe.

WTH? :|

The 1UP reviewer and his/her expectactions is not equivalent to that of the GS reviewer. This is not something hard to understand.

Nothing of what you just stated takes away from the fact that no matter how preemptive the blog may have been (ie stating it has flaws, saying his opinion is worth a grain of salt etc.) it's essentially Jaffe's complaint about someone else opinion.

Indeed.  Personally, I look at Gameplay, Value and Tilt.  Tilt probably the most, as it takes into account all the stuff that doesn't fit into the basic catagories.

Yeah Gamespot's review is pretty unfair. They drop all stats when their only complaint is lack of content.... for a $10 game. $10 game just needs to have some quick multiplayer fun and that's what it provided... yet GS smashes it for not having some kind of epic storyline or something that doesn't need to be there.

but this is the thing: he's not special.  most of the XBLA games scored around there.  none of them are "bad" games...they're just not rounded well enough to meet all the demands requisite of the scoring system.  if all those kinds of mini-games get similar scores, what is the to b***h about?

The biggest review site flopped his game. This could hurt sales so I would probably cry a bit too.

of course.  it directly affects how much food he can put on his table for his family.  that said, it's not like a lot of money went into this game, so his level of reaction is borderline laughable.

bottom line: he also needs to realize that he is not special.  most of the XBLA games scored around that score.  none of them are "bad" games...they're just not rounded well enough to meet all the demands requisite of the scoring GameSpot system.

if all those kinds of mini-games get similar scores, what is the to b***h about?  Nothing, really.  Unless he's gonna argue for all of those games, he's just a whiner.   I hope you guys don't make me link all the XBLA games that are online and good and fun that got similar scores here.

i love jaffe, hahahaha

why are there so many jaffe haters, you think it deservs a 6.7 after everyone else gave it abov an 8

R-Dot-Yung

does Games Radar count in your "everybody else"?   Games Radar gave the game a 7. :|

so for those counting, that's: 2 reviews, 7.0 or less.  2 reviews 8.0 and higher.  I see no trend.
