Originality does not equal quality. And from what I've seen most JRPGs look pretty much the same anyways. I have absolutely no interest in Japanese gaming or culture, and if you think that I'm missing out on something fine. It's just not for me. And if Japan is so much better at making games how come popularity in JRPGs seems to be declining while WRPGs are starting to seem more popular?

LOL, Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are just Japan's way of saying, "we can do western games, too!" Such a bad example of Japanese ingenuity, really.

The best japanese made game i've played is Dark Souls. Except it is made in the style of western games. woops.

It also depends on which genres you are into. If you like to play a lot of shooters (like me), it's pretty much impossible to ignore the complete dominance that European and American developers have in this area.

Well one thing is sure, Japan is not the indisputable king of gaming anymore. Considering is just one country they're still quite relevant though.

Most ignorant statement of the day, we all know that pc games cater realism and not creativity, I mean look at Crysis, it's art direction is bland. One thing this topic seems to be missing is indie games like Limbo, Outland, From Dust, etc. all of them have a great art style.

Not sure if serious, because his statement isn't ignorant. Pc games lately have all been about creativity and setting, because games focusing on technology are losing against their console counterparts. You name crysis and that is actually a good example on why the pc is actually deviating from that trend. Anyway the mainstream western market and the mainstream japanese market both suck to me this generation. There have been a couple of great games on both sides, but you really need a DS or a PC if you really want to get the best of things from both sides. (The world ends with you is just such an amazing game)

Most of western games' creativity comes from the Arcade titles. The retail games are quite bland.Mr_Cumberdale
