JRPG's do have their problems, but so do WRPG's
everything almost every single fantasy WRPG dose is to take and rip-off the whole concept of j.r.r tolkein's books
which isnt very impressive,
however the lack in JRPG's evolving can be best discribed as the "eastern anwsere to FPS"
after IGN's blogs, they should make that next.
Oh, their responses are just teeming with intelligence and well thought out rebuttals..AAllxxjjnnMy thoughts exactly, the only response that rings at all true is the cultural differences one, and that's just common sense. Personally, I enjoy JRPGs and WRPGs, for different reasons, and seeing junk like this is depressing.

In previous generations, when i played a good rpg it would be hard for me to discern whether or not it was from Japan. (unless I already knew the developer) Nowadays, I can instantly tell a jrpg form a wrpg because the differences in quality are so great.
For example Star Ocean: the Last Hope Vs. Mass Effect
- I know these tiles have different game mechanics however, it is the things like character interaction, character development, plot development, story, and sometimes moral choices that star ocean and many other jrpg's this gen are lacking.
- Features such as full voice acting are almost always missing in jrpgs; very few people want to read blocks of text when playing a game.
- jrpgs are still my favoraite enre but it is a bit frustrating to see a lack of evolution in the genre.

Thats because you got no taste and find any JRPG you play good because its characters are bland and look like Jpop idols.Everyone has to think about this in the right context Japan is only a nation of 110 million vs. the entire western hemisphere encompossing europe and north america which is like I dunno over a freakin billion people?
Do the math and you'll get it, a country that has roughly 1/10th the number of people and you expect them to foot the bill and compete with innovation coming from a much greater population? Get real folks.

[QUOTE="Kashiwaba"]
100% agree with them :P.

I just find them boring never liked any WRPG except Diablo.
I use to thik the same thing. My first WRPG was D&D: Eye of the beholder back when I was a kid. I hated that game and never played a WROG until I played KOTOR (now I enjoy a lt of the titles). You should give Planescape Torment a try if you like a well written story (d just don't mind the graphics). As for that that article I kind of laughed at the WPGs have bad stories. Sure they are some bad seeds but that can be said about JRPGs but I have played some that have great stories. The IGN writer seems like hes trying to start some **** rather than positively suggest some changes. 2ch just reacted like a little kid.
I do agree with IGNs #5 and #10. #5 is just part of Japanese culture but I cant stand it. Makes me want to strangle those characters. Orihime anyone? #10 is how I felt when I saw FF13.
Im guessing the IGN writer played some Demons Souls, got mad, and decided to talk some ****.

Persona 3 Fes, Persona 4, FFXII, Demon Souls, Digital Devil Saga 1,2 , MegaTen 3, Dragon Quest 8 were vastly superior to FFX. Heck I may dislike Lost Odyssey but it was better than FFX. Just visit any FF or JRPG thread here and you'll see this hate is pretty minimal to the haters saying the JRPG genre hasn't changed, the chracters suck or look like girls, story, linear, etc etc etc.

Anyone who's played Demon Souls can tell it's been influenced by WRPGs. The Megami Tensai series is justa huge cliche. WRPG's are gay cause you can have homosexual intercourse? That#s a choice you make, just like real life. Choice is somthing you won't be familiar with being a JRPG fan.
The most annoying thin is JRPG's imo is the poor stories. The terrible character models that are either super feminine, or emo-centric. The gameplay is fine.

all fantasy WRPG's are about elfs, dwarfs, warriors and mages, the stroy is usually bad, while they concentrate on having a complecated character system

I wasn't talking about ign,but someone that posted before and there is no such thing as WRPG gameplay wise, those are generalizations, it has design concepts, that were implemented first in wrpg? Yes, since they were the first and they created rpgs.It is like a father who created rpgs, but then the child(JRPG) learned with the father and surpassed him. WRPG had its glory days in late 90's and early 00's nothing came close, but today the better one is JRPG. My opinion. There are hundreds of pokemon. So, you can't use a Hundred at once, Only 6. In Fable and Fable 2 their's unlimited henchmen to use and you can use way more than 6 of them at once.I stopped playing JRPGs after about the fifth one i tried (with the exception of Pokemon).
