Killer Instinct and Xbox One Get Booed at EVO 2013

During the Killer Instinct presentation at EVO 2013, the game was met with a pretty negative reception. Following the Injustice: Gods Among Us Finals, Madcatz and Double Helix came out on stage to do a 3-match presentation of the new and upcoming Killer Instinct game for the Xbox One.

The boos were probably for Microsoft. KI will have zero impact in the fighter genre though.

MS is pretty toast now. No one will look at them positively anymore.

The gameplay is straight out of the 90's. It just looks bad.

They were booing because the game is only on the Xbox One. Killer Instinct is anything but a Street Fighter 4 clone, and it's a damn fun game.

I really hate how the people who say it looks like an SF clone probably don't even play SF4.  KI looks and plays totally different in just about every form.  Everyone booed the game because it looked horrible.  Plain and simple, EVO has nothing but hardcore fighting gamers but KI has a very long way to go before it gets any decent.

Seems like you dont know how to play fighting games then, since its not about button mashing but also skill..

you need to learn each fighters moves, timing of attacks, know when to block etc etc 

It does take skill to master fighting games !!

Its not easy, you really have to put some effort in mastering the moves... Since the release of SF2 i've been hooked with the fighting genre... Unfortunately many believe that random button mashing is all it takes to play such games, which can be done if you're playing alone on Easy difficulty.. But fight against skilled opponents and you'll soon realize it doesnt work like that :)

Fighting games are also not only about learning combos. Knowing your your character´s mixup options, spacing, zoning, hitconfirming... There is a lot of stuff you have to master if you want to play a fighting  game at a high level. That said, Killer Instinct does not look like the kind of fighting game I enjoy.

I think MS basically destroyed any good will from consumers for the xbox brand,i think that aside from some hardcore xbox fans,the console will not fly,MS is to blame they played people to much with the endless months of denial about everything bad concerning the console.

MS arrogance make things even worse when they told people you don't have online get an xbox 360..

I am not really into fighting games so this game is not big on my radar but the X1 announced games still look FAR better then the PS4 ones.CanYouDiglt

Its a matter of personal taste... Personally I'm still not impressed with whats been shown, however I prefer the PS4 as a console !!

I remember those complains about tekken,playing with King requires dexterity to the max to do all those chained moves.

I wasn't really interested in the game before but after seeing the IGN character profile videos I'm looking forward to seeing more, the game looks beautiful, the negative reaction is probably because the game is attached to Microsoft

Killer Instinct and the art looks horrible on top of the xbox one crap that made me not want to buy one anymore.

Wake me if double helix gets a clue and finds out what Killer Instinct is because they have not done it they have made a genric capcom game clone that looks like street fighter 4.

I was in the crowd at EVO this year, and this was a standout moment for the entire weekend. Firstly, there is something that needs to be conveyed that the video just didn't capture. There were over  8,000 people in the grand ball room, the crowd was booing so loud I was told guests upstairs and outside in the casino itself were complaining.

Also, they didn't just boo it when Double Helix first came out and mentioned Xbox One, there were 3 booing moments. The first is the one you see with Marc and the CM from Double Helix on stage. The second was when the 'Microsoft Game Studios' logo appeared right before the trailer played. And the 3rd was when the Xbox globe sizzle reel played at the end of the trailer. Also, the reaction online on a stream being viewed by over 100,000 people was almost universally negative.

Before this event, I didn't think MS had that serious of a PR issue. Nothing they couldn't salvage at least. After spending time talking with people at EVO and in Las Vegas for a weekend, i'm starting to think it might be worse than I imagined.

Also... the game was incredibly boring.
