[QUOTE="SolidTy"]If it's good, and I'm amazed and I ask :
"How did they do this?"
Then this would be great info, but until it's out, I'm just going to be cautious. They made an awesome PSP game, and an average PS2 game. Hype can hurt games more than help them.
SambaLele
wise words. but i think killzone 2, by it's own, is deserving the hype. never seen any bad preview, or any video or pic from it that doesn't impress me a lot.
Ya, but some reviews and previews also said Killzone on the PS2 would be good...And, what we got was...well we got that instead of a good game.[QUOTE="W1NGMAN-"][QUOTE="ReverseCycology"]It's like this, you could put ketchup, bbq sauce, salt and pepper, tabasco, any condoment you can think of on crap, but it'll still be crap, just like Killzone.
ReverseCycology
Awesome cant wait to read your full review of Killzone 2, when should I expect it to be posted?
I was really talking about Killzone 1. I hope Killzone 2 comes out great, I can't wait.
I just hope we'll see some multiplayer footages soon, because the multiplayer is the make it or break it for the game.
You said "just like Killzone" yea doesnt sound like you were just talking about Killzone to me.
[QUOTE="Broman6015"]A year and a half as a PS3 owner, and i still dont know what the hell the cell does.Rikusaki
Yeah. The CELL is very weird.
It is the CPU for the PS3 that has parts that can also act like a GPU. lol
Any CPU can do what a GPU does, its just horribly inefficient in comparison.

[QUOTE="SambaLele"][QUOTE="Sooshy"]Spin. Epic said Gears of War only used two of the cores on the 360 CPU.MojondeVACA
in fact, they said they`d maxed up the 360.
then they said they could do even better. then they announced Gears 2. with gears 2, i don`t doubt they`re saying they maxed it out. but when gears 3 is announced, then it will be maxed out.
EDIT: Remember when you said this to me verbatim? I like how it's actually true when I say it to you.
As for Killzone 2: Nobody's played it, so all of the people calling it crap are just fanboys. I personally don't care about this game. It's just another shooter with all of the attention on graphics.
I dont think that they can use all of the cores anyway becuase one must be used for other things, cant remember what though.
I dont really know what to make of this. Even if the game was using all of the cores it still might not max out the console. It depends on how well and efficiently you use them. With other consoles we were told it was maxed out then later a much better looking game would come out.
Its like if you get a powerful car, and say that you are using all 8 valves on it on sports mode, but it does not reach 200mph. Then you realise its a petrol car and you have bee using diesel. you are using all of the car to get to that speed but not very efficiently.
Its the same with consoles. They said gears maxed the 360 then gears 2 comes out. I am sure that a better looking game could be made than killzone 2, may be not much better but as time goes on the devs making KZ2 may find ew ways to make games look better and use that information on their next PS3 game or share it with other devs.
Dedicate cores to functions is stupid anyways. Insomniac has the right idea with their system. There are no cores dedicated, there's a scheduler program that send out functions based on priority to spu's as they become free. Hopefully that gets put into Sony's sdk soon, if it isn't already.mbrockway
I'm sure I read somewhere (I'm in no way stating this as fact) that rescheduling the tasks to the spe's causes a lot of slow down. The constant going back and forth to the spe's is very inefficient?

GeoW certainy does max the 360. Why else did MS pay like $900 million to increase the 360s RAM from 256mb to 512? Its because GeoW needed much more than 256mb of RAM. However, GeoW 2 will be more memory and performance effiecient than the first game :)
I hope this game fails, this looks like the most generic FPS Ive seen this gen.ImSwordMan

its funny how lemmings bash KZ2 stating its a generic shooter, doesnt look good and gameplay looks boring... i wonder how they know all these things from such a short gameplay vid shown... anyways probably lemmings are more hyped when seeing a 2 minute footage of GeOW2 which is mainly SCRIPTED stuff with little actual gameplay done on a relatively small area (vehicle)...
I personally will wait till KZ2 is released, get the game and actually PLAY THE GAME before commenting... so far am quite impressed with what Guerrila has done so far... They sure came close in matching the famous E3 movie in terms of visuals... as for gameplay its still early to judge but the actual gameplay vid seemed promising..
I thought the first killzone was awesome - it had a few elements that failed - like the different charaters. Their strenghts and weaknesses didn't really shine through, so you were best off just using reiko (sp?) as he could take the most punishment and had the best firepower.
Levels were a little linear - but to be fair, so was gears? Infact so are 90% of shooters - I don't find this a problem. The environments were good and varied. The game had a good cinematic feel to it and a macho "get some" attitude. The guns were pretty cool, although a little annoying as they were sooooo inaccurate.
I also found that the hellgast assualt rifle had a major fault in that it auto reloaded after you used the shotgun attachment. This was not good in the middle of a fire fight.
I think, with a little more polish, this game could be awesome. I am looking forward to it.

Malta, to be fair, the same could be said about cows hyping it without having played it. I really like the dark gritty art style of this game and if it had been released last year then it would have possibly set a new standard for visuals on consoles. The trouble is, its taking so long that by the time it does come out, and impact it was going to make with its graphics will be met with ...meh.
Ps3 dont have 6 cores anyway, it only has 1 with 8 spe's.I dont think that they can use all of the cores anyway becuase one must be used for other things, cant remember what though.

The 360 only has two cores
It has 3 actually. But i think only 2 are open to the dev to use.The PS3's SPU's are diffrent than the 360 cores. Devs use each SPU for a diffrent reason. 1 for physics, 1 for AI etc.

the question is: why don't they use all the cores and try to get it as fluid as possible?Cyberfairy
I doubt anyone knows how to . The cell is a mysterious beast.
the question is: why don't they use all the cores and try to get it as fluid as possible?Cyberfairy
Maybe they dont have enough money/resources to fully use all 6. I guess they wont until things become cheaper. Similar to PS2 and how graphics got better and better for it as time went on.

Ok, if you know it has 1 core with 8 SPE's running at 450Mhz each and ill be happy :)Though only 6 of the SPE's are open to devs.
*facepalm* Cell only has one core cows, not SIX, better luck next time, hope this THREAD fails.angelkimne
This is true. The 360 has 3 3ghz cores, while the ps3 has one of those, but is split into 6 or 7 individual sections. Though, most developers only use certain parts of the core. Exactly why its so hard to develop for. Could be more effecient if done right. Problem is, it has rarely been done right.

It's a good thing the CELL can act like a GPU. :)
The CELL has no features that makes it on par with a dedicated GPU. At most the CELL can render graphics via software which isn't good.
