what innovations have sony games made exactly? uncharted isnt innovative. gow 3 isn't innovative. killzone isn't innovative. lbp isn't innovative

heavy rain demons souls online integration - co-developed with sony some of those vita games which use the rear-touchpad starhawk - dropping buildings gravity rush patapon locoroco the unfinished swan killzone 2's multiplayer invizimals/reality fighters AR innovations im sure there r some other examples cross-play games

Serious question, what is innovative about heavy rain? :? I see so many people bring it up, but never have I seen anyone justify why it's innovative.

So it's an adventure game then? Doesn't really sound very innovative. Care to elaborate on the way it plays? Do you mean that it's cinematic or something else?

what has sony brought to the table this gen?

Blu-ray Remote Play Sixaxis

To name a few. What has the 360 brought us? A rip off of the Eyetoy, technology nearly a decade old, but still better?

the 2nd thing :P To be honest, I havnt played a lot of games in that 'genre' so the 'gameplay' (LOLHEAVYRAINGAMEPLAY!!) might not be fresh/new but i think the way the story can pan out is.

I'm pretty sure other adventure games have that kind of thing with how the story pans out. Personally the way I see it is Heavy rain is just an adventure game with a lot more production values than most in the genre :P

When it comes to innovation Sony sticks out like a sore thumb, as of late it looks like they just take ideas from other companies and try and make them "Better".

This is why I said "as of late" start of this generation they did have some innovation with the Blu-Ray and free online is hardly a innovation by Sony. When you weigh it up against Microsoft and Nintendo though Sony comes in last in terms of clear innovation in this generation.

Sony?

AHAHAAHAH

Well, ignoring the nonsense poll, the answer to that question should be obvious: Nintendo.

Definitely Sony. This on pure hardware btw; Microsoft released the Kinect, Nintendo obviously released the Wii but Sony only released the PS Move, a clone of the Wii Remote.

Many innovations mentioned aren't all that innovative, just something brought to consoles for the first time. I'll start a list excluding sh!t like Kinect and Move (lol)

Sony

  • Hard drive support (Before Xbox 1 launched)
  • Cloud saving
  • Automatic downloads
  • Remote Play
  • Disc based games
  • 3D
  • Dual analog
  • Other OS when it existed

MS

  • DLC
  • Achievements/Gamerscore
  • Netflix/media services on consoles
  • Cross game chat
  • Trial games
  • How you can download something to the 360 via Xbox.com, dunno if there's a name for this feature
  • Wireless controllers

Finally, with a poll, System Wars has come to the conclusion that Nintendo is the most innovative. Took long enough.

Sony has innovated a lot from the software front with games like Journey, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, LBP and soon with LOU. while M$ is all milkage with XBL and now Kinect. But Nintendo ruined gaming for everyone with their pointless gimmicks and under-powered hardware.

soulitane
Why do people say Heavy rain is innovative, while the others I don't really see as innovative I can at least see an argument for them. Nothing about Heavy rain really screams innovative, just a game in a genre we don't see a lot of on consoles.

Agreed. It's a current gen version of Indigo Prophesy, another game by the same dev. Nothing new from them, these are the kinds of games they make.

I'm pretty sure the wireless Gamecube controllers were 3rd party, but even so, MS at least innovated by being the first to put them in the box with the console.

[QUOTE="_Cadbury_"][QUOTE="mems_1224"] sixaxis isn't innovative. its a gimmick that failed, like the move. blu ray isn't really innovative when it requires 15-20 minutes mandatory installs. remote play is nothing, how many games actually use it? like six axis its a poorly implemented gimmick meanwhile MS has revolutionized online gaming, introduced achievements, was a big reason why so many indie games are actually successful now a days, netflix and alot of other media services to consoles mems_1224
Sorry but nothing you said even relates to innovation, and half of it is just ridiculous. Trying to denounce the innovation of blu-ray because it requires mandatory installs lolwut?

how is xbl or the other media services not innovative? how are achievements not innovative? MS completely changed the gaming industry this gen. more games are multiplayer focused, more indie games are getting recognition. more games get dlc, for better or worse. all games have achievements. all consoles have netflix now and the 360 offers a ton of media services. face it, MS completely changed what a console can be this gen. sony hasn't really done anything besides blu ray. even then, more storage space isn't that big of an innovation considering the 10 seconds to swap a disc is a lot less than the mandatory install times

This explains why MS is the cancer of gaming. They caused more harm than good to the industry.

Sony

  • Hard drive support (Before Xbox 1 launched)Tecnically that would go to Sega becouse the Sega Saturn had inbuilt storage before sony.

  • Disc based games Again other consoles had it first Sega Mega CD Saturn both before Sony and they maynot have been first.
  • 3D Satun was a 3d console and so was the Jaguar was capable of 64bit Graphics both came before PS1.
  • Dual analog
  • Other OS when it existed

MS

  • DLC

  • Netflix/media services on consoles
  • Cross game chat

99% of multiplayers nowadays are tacked on, resulting in a medicore single player and a mediocre multiplayer, its getting to the point to where devs are bashing their own games for having them (Like Spec Ops:The line) Its fine if you build the game from the ground up for multiplayer, but everyone just tacks it on and pretends like its going to attract CoD fans.

DLC has been taking content out of the game, Mass Effect 3 is an example that has DLC that is obviously suppose to be part of the main game.

can you please back up that accusation with facts or is that a made up number pulled from your ass? there are a lot of great multiplayer games out there. if a developer adds on a crappy multiplayer mode thats their fault, and dlc adds to a game as well. like the shadow broker dlc, like shivering isles, like dawnguard. again, if the developer is going to abuse dlc, like capcom, you simply dont buy it. the prothean in mass effect adds to the mass effect lore, but its not necessary to finish the game and still have an enjoyable experience. the leviathan dlc adds to the lore as well but no one complains about that

Nintendo is the only right answer. Using outdated tech and refusing to get with the times (they are just NOW getting HD! ) is inexcusable. If Nintendo was the only company around we would never be playing great games with great graphics or good online. Nintendo should just go 3rd party and stop making systems, if they don't want to adapt and move on, then let them go the way of the dinosaurs.

I don't know why people are saying Sony. They are the best in the business. They are always pushing forward with the new tech, and they determine what the standard is. Like what they did with Blu Ray, DVD is for last gen. MS can't make a system that actyally works to save their lives, ya you can talk about the slim but come on, that is still brand new. Give them another 5 years and we'll see what happens.

Plus MS only cares about nickle and diming people, they don't care about games much at all really. Hence why they stopped making new IP's.

Why did Sony copy them with motion controls if "they're a generation ahead of Nintendo?"

[QUOTE="mems_1224"]how is xbl or the other media services not innovative? how are achievements not innovative? MS completely changed the gaming industry this gen. more games are multiplayer focused, more indie games are getting recognition. more games get dlc, for better or worse. all games have achievements. all consoles have netflix now and the 360 offers a ton of media services. face it, MS completely changed what a console can be this gen. sony hasn't really done anything besides blu ray. even then, more storage space isn't that big of an innovation considering the 10 seconds to swap a disc is a lot less than the mandatory install times mems_1224

This explains why MS is the cancer of gaming. They caused more harm than good to the industry.

nope. multiplayer is awesome and so is having a reason to go back to a game when you're done with it. i dont see anything wrong with multiplayer games and dlc

Nothing wrong with great multiplayer.

Many innovations mentioned aren't all that innovative, just something brought to consoles for the first time. I'll start a list excluding sh!t like Kinect and Move (lol)

Sony

  • Hard drive support (Before Xbox 1 launched)
  • Cloud saving
  • Automatic downloads
  • Remote Play
  • Disc based games
  • 3D
  • Dual analog
  • Other OS when it existed

MS

  • DLC
  • Achievements/Gamerscore
  • Netflix/media services on consoles
  • Cross game chat
  • Trial games
  • How you can download something to the 360 via Xbox.com, dunno if there's a name for this feature
  • Wireless controllers

Plagueless

I thought Nintendo had the first wireless controller.

I'm pretty sure the wireless Gamecube controllers were 3rd party, but even so, MS at least innovated by being the first to put them in the box with the console.

The Wavebird was the first wireless first party controller.

Wavebird information

Sony didn't introduce disc based games....TurboGrafx-CD came out in 1988.

MS was the first to add broadband capabilities to a console with the first ethernet port

I could've sworn my Dreamcast came with Ethernet cables. But Nintendo was the first console to have online. Nintendo had an online capable system since the 80s with the Famicom in Japan. Also the SNES had the Satelliview. N64 I think had Online; GCN had a broadband adapter but they dropped it because Hiroshi Yamauchi said that gamers didn't want online because all of their online endeavors failed.

it doesn't matter if you're first and you do it poorly. MS was the first console manufacturer to get online gaming right on consoles

Now that I think about it, I would say MS is the least innovative console manufacturer at the moment.

Lately Sony has released the ps vita (first hand held with 2 touch interfaces) and will release Wonder book sometime this year.

MS hasn't done anything innovative lately.
