  Yeah not sure why people are making this out to be such a huge deal.. Ram is one of the cheapest components on the pc.. You can buy 8gb ddr3 for as little as $50.. And the video memory on the video cards are pretty irrelevent when all the mid to high range cards have at least 2gb on them..  The 7850 can't even use more than 2 or 3gb's to begin with.. Hell the only time when memory is needed for that size is when your going beyond resolutions of 1080p..

Uhh, that's probably because there aren't any unmodded games out there that need 8GB yet. Those that have 8+GB are the people that have recently upgraded in order to future-proof. You should know this.

Indeed. Also, isn't the PS4 using the 8gb of RAM as shared ram, for system and graphics? 4-6 gigs of system ram goes a lot farther when the GPU has its own 2-4 gigs to work with.

I have had 16 gigs from 2011 in my pc and 8 gigs in my laptop it is not a big deal. Getting higher speeds with tighter timings at close to default voltage is the big deal for me.

There are tons of PC gamers, even here on Gamespot, that don't have high-end PC hardware, and don't go around posting screenshots of everything. They just like to play PC games.

*face palm* You do know that that is only regular system memory and not including VRAM which isn't included in those Listings. e.g. that steam profiling system would show my PC as having 8GB of RAM when infact i have 8GB of DDR3 + 2GB of GDDR5. Having a larger amount of DDR3 ram wouldn't make much of a difference in the games eitherway.

This GDDR5 hype is a joke. Most $500-600 computer builds will have 8 gigs ddr3 + 2gigs DDR5 and yet people are hyping this as the secound coming of Jesus.......

Not only that but the PS3 is mainly using DDR5 instead of DDR3 to make up for the weak bandwidth of the PS4 CPU

So system memory has suddenly become a big deal, despite the fact no-one gushing when trying to discuss it seems to comprehend the difference it does and doesn't make.

At the end of the day the PlayStation 4 isn't going to be a machine that's ahead of high end PC gaming machines; that's not cost effective at all, and I'm sure Sony would like to turn a profit this time around without repeating the 599 debacle.
