Realistically obviously PSN being free is the better deal... I play both PSN and XBL alot... Both great services and I'm not here to argue features... But every thread or comment is "XBL is $60 a year"

XBL has literally a deal every week for XBL... With huge discounts.. I just Golded my second account $10 for 3 months... Ive seen a year offered through XBL itself for as cheap as $35... And amazon they can be had for $40 or less....

I buy a bottle of water everyday and get back a quarter. I pay for my live with my change. For how great the service is we can all agree its worth $40.

If you don't find any deals then you deserve to pay $60, I guess. (the deals aren't that hard to find)

It certainly can be had for less. I got my year for $35 on the release of Reach.

Still, to many individuals, it is $60 a year.

It sure is a lot cheaper than steam, I mean.. I pay all of 0$ a year for that. Let's be honest, you're paying for something that's supposed to be free.

You need to pay to ensure your credit card information isn't kept in plain text files.

I usually get 12 months for 30 eur (43 usd). Never buy directly from Microsoft unless they're offering a very good deal (last year I think 1 year was 25 gbp). And thats really not that much Imo. They have servers set up all over the world so latency is never a problem (if the game has a good matchmaking system).

yes, it comes out to $5/month which isn't a lot for me, there's so much more to waste money on these days, $11 movie tickets, $5 Starbucks, $4-5 per gallon of gas, $8 cigarette packs... you barely have to be frugal to afford XBL, I just quit smoking like 2 weeks ago and that's already saved me enough to afford two years of XBL Gold

This

Why pay in the first place for something that is supposed to be free. Since steam provides far superior service to me and doesnt charge a dime, im left wondering why live isnt 10x better than steam.

It isn't a ton of money, but any money to play online is annoying. I don't play online on my PS3 that much either, as to PC is the best for online gaming :).

It's not the price I have a problem with, it's the principal. I should not have to pay for something that should be free. If I just bought a game, why should Microsoft be able to block off half of the game until I pay them as well?

Oh please!... I love Xbox Live but it's totally not worth the price of admission no matter what anyone says -- that's nothing more than your emotional attachment to your money talking; Which would make anyone feel the need to justify it as well, but there is no obvious reason why they should be charging us for it at all. At least be real about that.

DroidPhysX

Just call MS up to cancel your subscription and they'll offer you a year for $30. If 10 minutes of your time isn't worth $30 then you can clearly pay full price.

That said, $30 over 6 years is $180. That's quite a bit of cash compared to, well, nothing.

I don't see how finding a discount on an item that is available literally everywhere else for free is a "deal." Discounts and sales are designed to lure people in by making them think they are saving money, when they aren't saving anything at all.

Live subscription costs me money, and that means it costs too much. I already spent my money buying the consol, the game, and my own internet connection. They expect me to pay even more just to play online? No dice Microsoft, if I could play online for free I can guarantee I would actually play my 360 more than once in a blue moon. But I flat out refuse to pay to play my games online, none of the other services matter to me. Team chat, Cross game invites, bla bla bla. Has no effect on how I would use my 360, I can get the same service for free on PS3, PC, "hell even the Wii sort of". If Microsoft split Live into free online and premium for deals, teamchat, whatever. I would gladly sign up for the free service and let the Gold subscription continue to collect dust. I bet a whole lot of other people would as well. Microsoft holds my gaming experience hostage and I don't take kind to that. So unless it's an exclusive single player game...I don't buy much for my 360 anymore.

I dont know why people say you pay for better servers. Other gamers host the games. If MS actually had servers you connect to and play online then it might be different. Like when I played WoW I payed to connect to blizzard servers and they keep adding content. On XBL I pay to join with other gamers who host from their console and I pay extra for new content.

it's anywhere from 35-60 bucks a month, for an online experience no better than steam or psn.

No matter what you pay for Gold and how much you rationalise that price it doesn't change the fact that those features cost nothing on the PS3 and PC.

Oh, sure, getting some of these features on the PS3 may require PlayStation Plus, but the core online experience is totally free; things are even better on the PC side where you can match or exceed each and every Gold feature for no cost. Even the Wii--the Wii!--provides basic multiplayer functionality without charging you for it.

I agree, pc gamers constantly talk about how much cheaper the games are on pc mostly because of sales (although I agree), so why shouldn't xbox gamers be allowed to do this with xbox live? It's a double standard. But I can see why, it's ridiculous you even have to pay for a mostly peer to peer service.
