Seriously. 8 dollars a month is nothing. Just skip your fast food meal once a month or don't buy that six pack of beer. 8 dollars a month is nothingKaze_no_Mirai
Thank you!!!
XBL FACT is better than PSN.... Its like comparing buying a Kia or a Mercedes... They both get you where your going... But one does it in style with some nice features...
PSN is awesome and yes its free... I love that.. But I think its insane peopl think paying $40 a YEAR to use a service offers features the other doesnt.
my renewal fee for 2011 is $29.99. it was on special a few months a go and i re-upped.
the charge does not go on my cc until this fall when my current sub expires.

lol! It wouldn't be if XBL was actually charging us for something worthwhile. I'd be better off handing out free money out to a homeless bum on the street once per month. At least then I'd feel good about myself instead of feeling ripped off; Jynxzor said it best on the last page
"Microsoft holds my gaming experience hostage and I don't take kind to that."
If they really cared, they'd at least break it down into packages for people who only want to play online. They don't even want to give us options.

No I was implying that the Mercedes had style and class... Kia are decent... But American cars suck...I would see it more of a comparison of a Ferrari F50 to a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. (Xbox = Ferrari PSN = Vette)
-The Ferrari will take you 200mph and are prestigious but cost you $500,000
-The Vette will still take you 200 mph, still has prestige and only costs you $70,000

Jynxor said "Microsoft holds my gaming experience hostage and i dont take kind to that" LOL, did they come into your house with guns, throw a bag over your console and drive it away in a van?? NO, you bought your XBOX, you know that LIVE is a paid for service. How can they be holding you hostage when you willing signed up to it?
I Dont see many World of Warcraft players complaining about paying a subscription, hey i can go run in the park for free, perhaps my gym should let me in for free aswell since exercise is free elsewhere.
you are either willing to pay or you are not if you bought an Xbox, you should know that its a requirement to play online you must pay. thats it, there is no hostage taking at all.
And hostage implies you have no choice... People know exactly how much its costs when they pay for it.... MS isnt forcing anyone to pay... People pay $15 a month for WoW... I know I do... I get way more time from XBL.... And of course ppl make the aurgument that WoW is constantly getting better... Thats true but so is XBL.. People buy expansion packs for MMOs and there paying for a monthly fee... Based off you peoples logic I should be getting that content for free.Microsoft monetizes a service that should be free. If Steam and PSN can be free then so can XBL. It provides nothing significantly different that the other two aforementioned do not or can not. All other arguments debating this are just really grasping at straws.
Plain and simple, Microsoft charges for XBL because they can. They're cheaper than the PS3 out of the box and Microsoft knows many people will buy it because their friends have it.

Nor is this an MMO where you're paying for game specific server costs or additional content (as overpriced as many MMOs can be). The last thing comparable was the subscription services on the PC over a decade ago, and look how well those turned out on a platform with choice. But hey I'm glad to know I can play my PC online games for as long as I like, forever, without worrying about additional incurring costs just access it, locking it out from me. It wasn't gratifying paying for it when I did, and it hasn't gotten any better since, it's still a blatant easy-to-do money making scheme. I'm not saying don't pay for it, if you want to play your Xbox games online by all means do, but that doesn't make the fee justified for its implementation in the slightest.
Realistically obviously PSN being free is the better deal... I play both PSN and XBL alot... Both great services and I'm not here to argue features... But every thread or comment is "XBL is $60 a year"
XBL has literally a deal every week for XBL... With huge discounts.. I just Golded my second account $10 for 3 months... Ive seen a year offered through XBL itself for as cheap as $35... And amazon they can be had for $40 or less....
I buy a bottle of water everyday and get back a quarter. I pay for my live with my change. For how great the service is we can all agree its worth $40.

Microsoft claims that XBL costs $60/year. I guess Microsoft is "you people" now?
Don't worry, I'm sure it will be up to $70/year by next gen. It's definitely not going down.
Paying for an inferior product isn't my idea of "Better."
So yeah, PSN is still the best (console) online network.
So, sure, $60 isn't that much in the big scale of things, but which would you rather spend money on:
I already bought my car and my gas, why do I have to pay for insurance? I already bought my monitor and my computer, why do I have to pay for internet? I already bought my PS3 and my controller, why do I have to pay for games? Come on. Even you must realize how silly your argument sounds. Please, get out of PSN damage control mode and just think for a second. It costs money.. so no its not.. but nice try.. i already pay for my internet to get online and enjoy.. why do i need to pay on top of my internet to Ms just to play online on their network? gtfo

actually it does, steam and psn games don't have an online platform built into the game, so dev's will be building a lot more of the online structure then what is provided with live, and this makes a lot of the online functionality in all of the games on xbox to be updatable without touching the game, the best example is their recent upgrade of the voice codec, all of the games recieved this update where PSN doens't have this built in so unless the dev's have to update each individual game.Microsoft monetizes a service that should be free. I don't have to touch my games to update them. Great part about Steam.
Also have 3 other programs for voice chat, as well as Steam's built-in voice chat. Pretty good position here.

Yet the game developers build chat infrastructure for their games regardless of Live, keeping in mind the same poor voice chat service is free on the PC. so? you need to read what my argument is actually about, we know that each individual game uses an individual service, and on pc there are services that are external, but live is the only platform that all the games use the same service and its upgradeable he was saying live doesn't do anything differently, i was just pointing out it does as a lot of the online protocals and structure is built into the OS games can be built ontop of a more maintainable online layer.[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"]but thats not part of the game... its a seperate chat service , outside of the game,

I refuse to ever take financial advice from someone who wastes so much money. Do you realize that bottled water costs 1900 what tap water costs? And that it is pumped from the same public water sources that tap water is pumped from? And that it is "purified" of many of the beneficial minerals that are in tap water?I buy a bottle of water everyday and get back a quarter. .

I buy cases of bottled water. Its like 3 bucks for 24 bottles. If you pay a $1 (or sometimes more???)a bottle your an idiot.
How do you guys go from talking about xbox live to bottled water, lol!! I guess all you guys complaining of xbox live cost v PSN cost buy unbranded cheap clothes, wouldnt consider a premium branded TV, dont aspire to own a bigger house in a better area or would never consider aspiring to own a premium brand car. I suppose you would all rather go to a state college than an IVY league college for your education. Bottom line, if you want to pay for xbox live, pay for it. $60 or £35 isnt a lot of money really and you get what you pay for.
I guess it makes sense that people who pay more for water than gasoline would think that paying to unlock the online play in the games they own is a real bargain.
When you're talking about Xbox Live, you get exactly what they pay for with Steam or PSN(Obviously when it's up of course) for free. How do you guys go from talking about xbox live to bottled water, lol!! I don't like having to pay monthly just to watch Netflix on my 360, when I'm already paying monthly for it. So I just do it for free on my Wii and PS3.
XBL isn't something I mind paying for.. just most of the games on it are pretty repetitive (see 90% FPS). Oh, and don't say Torchlight. I'll just boot up my PC and play Diablo. kthxbai.
