No, they haven't abandoned anybody who lives in dies by the next update to the Zelda or Mario series. But they sure have given up on the rest of "hardcore" gamers.Teufelhuhn
if you say that now, you must mean the GameCube aslo, because the GameCube didn't do much at all really. After all of these titles are released, Retro Studios will probably be working on a new IP, after Disaster is done, Monoltih Soft will probably start a new Hardcore RPG for the Wii like thier good at, and others.
The Wii is doing much more than the GameCube EVER did.
So the point of this thread was to prove that metroid, smash and mario are still staples to the nintendo name? a big WTF to that.*sigh* No. It proves that Nintendo has not forgotten their fans. Do I need to say it again?

seeing the 2007 lineup, it definitely seems nindtendo hasn't abandoned their core gamers. Its more like almost all 3rd party dev are moe interested in making casual games for Wii and that is why it seems wii is casualized and/or kiddy. but the 2008 linup doesn't looks that good to me
naval
BINGO!! My point exactly. People say Nintendo has abandoned their Core audience, WRONG! For some reason people confuse 3rd parties with Nintendo.
As for 2008, Nintendo has not said anything on it at all really. Expect more titles to come... EASILY.

Welcome to system wars. All the Wii haters always bash the Wii because it has no good hardcore titles, and that all the games are kiddy crap, thats what this thread was trying to prove, that Nintendo is still making quality hardcore games for their core gamer.

The problem here is, outside of Nintendo I.Ps ... the 3rd partys .. a VERY VERY important part ... as well you know ... the entire PC library is 3rd party and well, everyone gets smacked down when they try to question it ... 3rd party is severly important.
I'm still trying to comprehend your point and see it in a positive light .. because im stuck with the following 2 ideas in my mind:
1) Your saying that, this year Nintendo is realesing tis big I.Ps all in one year ... thus somehow making it the best Nintendo IP fans (NOT exactly hardcore) thus being the best year for nintendo since well SNES years?
2) ... This list is a poor cover up for the fact that the system has little to nothing in terms of REAL depth games outside of nintendo ... but somehow nintendo making more first party will fix this problem?
I'm leaning towards number 2 ...

Well if the Wii keeps selling well, then they will get more support. Then later on, people will get bored with the casual titles and start buying the hardcore games. So Nintendo amps up their hardcore lineup and so does the third parties so that they can make money. That was the Wii's purpose.
except the fact that the gamecube was a complete failure. I support Nintendo and I had a gamecube and now have a Wii but take those games that you are talking about and 3 of them appeal to me as games i would purcahse. Being Mario, Metroid and smash bros. Now take the list of games that appeal to me that are coming out to the 360 and its probably more like 10 - 15 games this fall-winter. I am buying 4. Halo3, bioshock, rockband guitar hero 3. add mass effect, AC, too human, army of two, kane and lynch, call of duty 3, what else oh so many games that are made for hardcore gamers. Nintendo is aiming at what it feels is harcore gamers but its not anymore. I am keeping the wii but i still think it is a descent system and is fun but the fun willfade unless they release some real games. Zelda TP was amazing, give me more games like that, that was a game made for hardcore gamers, no other game has been made for that audience yet on the Wii. METROID CORRUPTION SHOULD BE THE SECOND ON THE LIST.zeldafan00013
But most of the 360's games are from 3rd Parties. I know, as a whole, the Wii does not appeal to the Hardcore. But is this Ninendo's fault? This shows that they are putting out more "core" titles that basically sold the GameCube than they ever have. 2008 for Wii for Nintendo is already better than some of the GameCube years.
What I am trying to prove is that Nintendo has not abandoned their "core" group as so many people state in regular posting. Its completely false, as you can see.
So EA, Square, Capcom, and other 3rd party developers switching focus to the Wii are just lacking depth in all their games? The problem here is, outside of Nintendo I.Ps ... the 3rd partys .. a VERY VERY important part ... as well you know ... the entire PC library is 3rd party and well, everyone gets smacked down when they try to question it ... 3rd party is severly important.

This list is just of Nintendo, and nothing else. I am sorry, but I can not win a War here. This is a selective "battle" against people saying that Nintendo has abandoned their "core" group because they are making Wii Fit. WFT!?!?

EA - Crysis , Ubisoft - Far Cry 2 (looking to be yet again a innovative masterpeice) ... shifting focus is pretty false ... or your just using the term incorrectly.
And Capcom actually starting whoring thier games onto STEAM and the PC ... again shifting to who? This gen most developers are shifting all over the place.

exactly. But I never heard this junk about Nintendo abandoning their core group when the biggest title of the year was Fire Emblem. All of a sudden the Wii comes around, 3rd parties make all these strange games, and this is somehow Nintendo's doing? Most multiplats are missing. My main complaint about the wii. And I say they've abandoned the core b/c this gen it's essential for the core audience to have a good online. Wii doesn't have good online. It has few games and even when they do have good games, the online will still suck b/c there is absolutely no communication or sense of being in a community. You can't see your friends when playing, you can't even talk to them! (no strategy during MoH) Online for Wii is basically playing against CPU, only you know those other cars/ people are actual people. The online is not immersive at all.
manningbowl135
Who says that online is a requirement for core gamers? PS1, N64, PS2, and GC didn't have it. Does that make them casual consoles?

The GCN didn't get any sports games (maybe Madden) it's last year, but Wii has started to get the sports games it was missing.
