Lets have a moment of silence for 2012 - one of the lousiest years in gaming

Assassin's Creed III, Dishonored, Halo 4, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, Journey, Street Fighter X Tekken, Forza Horizon, SSX, Xenoblade, GW2.

Plenty of fantastic and unique games dere to enjoy on all teh platforms.

All I see in 2011 are unoriginal sequels.

The season from January to September was extremely dry in terms of notable releases, and the ones that were good were so far in between each other is not even funnny.

I guess I should be happy. If there was actually a large number of quality titles released this year I may not have purchased the GOTY edition of Batman Arkham City and had my mind absolutely blown. Probably wouldn't have gone back and played many of the classics I missed out on. I also owe a lot to Diablo 3 because it was the sole reason I got into PC gaming, even though the game it's self didn't end up being all I hoped for.

How am I not well educated? It's simply an inferior year compared to many of the great ones we've had. The Gamerankings link in the OP kind of shows this as well. It's fine if you think it's a great year. It's been rather lame imo.

Are you guys smoking something? Been a pretty good year in my mind, with more diversity then most other years, but then again that might be the issue here maybe? that the games were more diversed and not just an "attack of the clones" year?

Ah not really fair to put it like that, but looking at it objectively there have been ALOT of good and great games come out this year, that they might not match the taste of every gamer is another issue entirely (and I would say thank god for that, since it means that the industry finally have begun to take a few chances again).

Was a very good year for me, actually. It gave me just enough time to squash the backlog, while also giving me some great new experiences, some of them I'm yet to play...

I can understand why people who only love PS3 exclusives would be upset with 2012. For the rest of us there were plenty of games to play. It's been a pretty good year to be a gamer. Big games like Mass Effect 3, Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2, Darksiders 2, Guild War 2, Dishonored, Mark of the Ninja, Max Payne 3, Assassin's Creed 3, and The Walking Dead. I'm sure I've forget to mention a few.

Plus we still have Halo 4, Black Ops 2, Wii-u and Epic Mickey 2. So all in all not the best year, but surely not a bad year either. Well except for a certain group of system wars dwellers.

Well this is coming from someone who found greatness in Nier. I'd think anyone who can do that should understand that using game scores is a terrible way to judge a year of gaming. It should be based purely on personal opinion, but at that point I question it because I don't think a day has gone by where I haven't been playing a game, and enjoying it.

2012 had a fantastic PC lineup, and a very consistent one at that. That's why I suggest learning what's actually available for the system. Look at your list of PC games, and tell me you actually played at least a decent amount of the great games released this year. I'm guessing that wasn't the case.

I haven't bought nearly as many games as I did last year, which is a good thing, since 2013 looks so badass. Still not a bad year per se, though. We've had Guild Wars 2, Mass Effect 3 (which was great besides the ending) and plus, a host of indie games.
