Lets have a moment of silence for 2012 - one of the lousiest years in gaming

+1 to this thread. I've been saying it all year. Then I get replies with a list of games that would have been flies on the wall any other year this gen.

Even 360 fans talking up Halo, Forza, and Fable...how honestly exciting is it to have the 4th Halo and Forza entries this gen?

2012 hasnt been completely void of games, just not stacked like basically every other year this gen. For me, the only standouts are Journey, NFS Most Wanted, and possibly End of Nations if it releases.

Now whether you love or hate these games, it's pretty much set in stone that they will all be remembered and talked about nearly a decade from now.

What are people going to remember from 2012?

Journey? It's a two hour long downloadable game. No body is even going to know what it is in a few years.

Mark of The Ninja = same thing.

Borderlands 2? Don't get me wrong, I love Borderlands, but it's not the kind of game people will still be talking about years from now.

Xenoblade? Sorry, but that belongs to 2011. :P

Max Payne 3? What makes people think this game will be remembered any more than it's predecessors?

The two games from 2012 that will be remembered most are Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3, and not for the reasons you may be thinking. They will be remembered for being major disappointments to a lot of people.

And sure Assassin's Creed 3, Halo 4, and Black Ops 2 will be remembered, but only because of their names. There has been no groundbreaking games in 2012, whereas 2011 had a f*cking plethora of them.

The verdict is still out on GW2. Like with most MMOs it's impact depends entirely upon how well it's supported by the developers over the coming years. It could eventually become the next WoW, or just fall off the face of the Earth like The Old Republic. It didn't take long for gamers to start questioning the quality of GW2's end game content.

So does COD, but you dont hear anyone claiming 2012 the best gaming year ever because of Black Ops 2. Fact is, it can only be new to a limited degree and still continue to appeal to the fans of the series. Even if there are new spins, its not that exciting to people who have had their fill of Halo, Forza, and COD.

Hitman Absolution, Assassins Creed 3, Black Ops 2, NFS Most Wanted, Diablo 3, Dishonored and Okami HD... I'm satisfied since I mostly play games from mid-summer to end of the year for some odd reason. Some might say due to no good games out, I'd agree but it was the same last year, and the year before, and the year before as well.

Sure I caught up with some games like Batman Arkham City and I'll most likely be catching up on the Mass Effect Trilogy early next year, but it happens every year with me.

It was a good year. Last year was a little better though, but it was also a more disappointing year due to hype and people being crazy about scores, just gotta learn to look past them. (Uncharted 3, Zelda Skyward Sword)

No but a lot of other people on here are. The fact that they are sequels and basically not bringing much new to the table, outside of a spin on the old formula, actually helps the worst year argument. Its not the worst year ever, but its the worst this gen for sure.

It's hard for me to Decide which was better however because last year had the Witcher 2, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age II (yes I liked the game) Skyrim and Zelda SS. But still this year was great for gaming too.

This year was average at best, but I don't see how it was the worst year in this generation. 2009, 2010 and 2011 were equally if not a little less interesting to me as a whole. Really depends on what kind of games you prefer, which means its once again arguing over which opinion is the "right" one in this forum.

I don't give a sh*t about over half the games that came out last year. Why should I act like it was a better year than this year? Not everyone buys every single game that comes out.

I agree, it is horrible. Everytime I see people naming a list of the game of 2012 I keep asking myself what did they even like about the game they posted. It's not just that the game weren't interesting, they weren't very good

i find it hard to believe people expect much from a 7 year old and a 6 year old console.
