[QUOTE="igsmither"]The tech alone in the DS3 makes it the better controller and that is a FACT people.BadoshNo. Yes.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I appreciate both but I prefer the DAs of the 360 controller while the D-Pad of the DS is so much better it's not even funny.
That's why I give my vote to DS3, that D-Pad is used extensively in almost every sinlge game that features any kind of inventory and the difference is far more noticable than the difference in DAs.
That was well written. But you know how I figured iprefered the 360 controller? I played games with both. I don't care about anything else. Just using them. I don't do anything but play games with them. And I am more comfortable with 360 controller.cainetao11I've skimmed 5 pages so far and, finally, here's a good reply. I'd still like to see if someone actually thinks the 360 controller is better tech-wise, but this will do for now.
[QUOTE="Badosh"][QUOTE="igsmither"]The tech alone in the DS3 makes it the better controller and that is a FACT people.igsmitherNo. Yes.no it may have some better tech and depending on how you use it can make it a better controler. just cause it has better tech doesnt auto manicly make it better FACT

I prefer the offset thumbsticks and the triggers. And You have a nice bullet pointed list, but you have to weigh the impact of each.
I can recharge the 360 controller while the 360 is in sleep mode... after a full recharge, the 360 automatically turns off.
I also like the ability to easily plug things into the 360 controller. The microphone plugs right into the bottom, as does the chatpad, which I use as much as I use my mic. The chatpad even draws power from the controller. The PS3 set doesn't work as smoothely.
Technically, the DS3 battery may be better, but how does that translate to my gaming experience. The 360 controller battery lasts for days with moderate to high usage. The 360's guide button also flashes when it's low on battery.
The pressure sensitive buttons... again, how meaningful is that while playing? I don't see a noticeable difference. It's a nice win for the DS3, but only on paper.
But hey, mileage will vary for each. These little details don't amount to much on either end of the conversation because the controllers work and they're functionally sound. You can nitpick all you want, but the differences aren't significant in real world terms.
Personally, I call it a draw.

You don't plug keyboards and microphones into the DualShock 3. You can use any bluetooth keyboard or headset and just pair them with the PS3 console, you don't need all these devices plugged into the controller itself. Plugging things into controllers like that is ancient technology, that stuff is last gen. I use a motorola bluetooth headset and an extra bluetooth keyboard and mouse that came with my computer for my PS3, and none of them plug into the controller, they all work wirelessly with the PS3 system.
A lot of the differences actually do translate into your gaming experience, most notably, the analog sticks and D-pad. The analog sticks on the DualShock 3 use 10-bit analog precision which allows for much more precise levels of accuracy, whereas the 360 controller uses 8-bit analog precision that is tech from last generation and lacks the level of accuracy. The D-pad on the 360 controller is arguably the worst D-pad ever put on a gaming controller, whereas the D-pad on the DualShock 3 is arguably the best D-pad ever put on a gaming controller. Whether it be 2D games, fighting games, changing equipment in Call of Duty or switching between gadgets on the fly in Batman Arkham City, a nice D-pad is invaluable when playing games, and it makes the experience much better.
Additions like pressure sensitive/ analog buttons and D-pad, as well as Sixaxis support are advantages, especially considering the 360 controller doesn't support any of them, or even any alternatives. How could nothing be better than more features? The game that makes best use of them are Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a game that got a 10 here on Gamespot. I couldn't have picked a better game to utilize such features. The MLB The Show games also use them, as well as Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Killzone, and a few other PS3 exclusives. The reason multi-plats don't support them is because they try to make games equal across all platforms, and the 360 doesn't offer any of these features.
But you can plug in the PS3 version of a chatpad that, oddly enough, goes on top of the controller. The chatpad on the 360 is great solution for texting, all done on one device held in your hands instead of having to swap between different devices. Ergonomically, I find it a superior solution for texting and supporting a headset that comes with most 360's out of the box.
Like said earlier, the advantages of a more sensitive analog stick is academic. When the rubber meets the road, the difference is minimal. I have no problems with the 360 analog sticks for anything, especially with shooters. On top of that, any advantage the DS3 analog sticks have is negated by the symmetrical stick layout and the size of the controler itself which I find a little too small, leaving my hands cramped during longer play sessions.
Sixaxis? Really? It's use in games is so few and far between that it's virtually inconsequential.
These advantages you list are great on paper, but don't mean much while I'm playing.

I can type like 180 words a minute on a keyboard, and probably 20 words a minute max on one of those little chat pads. I'll take the wireless keyboard.
See what that was? It was a subjective opinion, I prefer the keyboard. Does it make it better? No.
You may prefer the 360 controller, but you're missing the point entirely. The fact that you prefer the 360 controller doesn't make all of the objective advantages of the DS3 disappear. How would the position of the analog sticks negate 10-bit analog precision?
This is like comparing a mini-van to a Porsche.
The Porsche is more impressive on paper. It's faster with more torque and horsepower, it handles better, and is overall the more impressive vehicle, but there are tons of people out there who prefer the mini-van. Good luck convincing a die hard mini-van owner that a Porsche is better.

First of all, your analog is flawed because your post did nothing to prove that the PS3 controller is vastly superior over the 360 controller. What you said was that there were certain obscure technological features in the Dualshock 3 that the 360 controller didn't have, like pressure-sensitive buttons and the sixaxis, which barely any developers take advantage of or use in a meaningful way. Moreover, you are completely discounting the fact that one controller works flawlessly with PC gaming and has come to be the de facto input alternative for PC gaming, while another is not nearly as accessible for PC gaming. Second, on comfort, which is totally subjective: the positioning of the analogs on the DS3 and how damn massive they are often results in my thumbs colliding with each other when I strafe right and pan the camera to the left (i.e. move the left thumbstick and right thumbstick toward each other). The positioning of the 360 analogs is therefore much, much better--your thumbs don't collide, the sticks are contoured to your thumbs, and they are smaller. Also, the triggers on the PS3 are straight garbage. 99% of games don't even use them for shooting because your fingers will naturally be on R1 or L1, and R2 and feel loose and cheap. In providing a visceral experience, particularly for shooters and racers, the 360 wins because the trigger buttons feel natural and sturdy. It makes you an arrogant prickWhat if someone prefers the comfort of a Geo Metro seat compared to a Lamborghini seat.
Does that make the Geo Metro the better vehicle?

For them, sure. I know you really enjoy riding Sony's d*ck, as most fanboys enjoy doing that with their inanimate piece of plastic of choice/corporation of choice. I'll even give you the benefit of your tech arguments, as they are true. But video games are an experience that people experience individually. Subjective or not, If someone enjoys a certain control pad over another, Its going to make it the better controller for them. Personally, I slightly prefer the 360 controller. I know that's subjective. But you know what? I don't obsess over it, as you seem to do.What if someone prefers the comfort of a Geo Metro seat compared to a Lamborgini seat.

You still haven't said a goddamn thing regarding the 360 controller being plug-and-play with PC. Second, I have large hands; I don't have to have impaired coordination to have my thumbs collide because Sony's controller is so damn tiny and the analogs are right next to each other. are your hands hypothetical? quotations are not meant to be used to create emphasis. Try Italicizing or capitalizing when you want to emphasize a word. also the ps3 controller is technologically superior. its stupid that this argument has went on for 12 pages, and its stupid that anyone even cares enough to even argue with this for 12 pages. seriously? just use your own controllers. I have both, and while I do prefer the feel of the PS3 controller, I can respect the 360 controller for its ergonomic design (at least the wired version, battery packs suck.), and it IS super comfy to hold. I have large hands and I have never had a problem with my thumbs touching with the ps3 controller. If your thumbs touch, you are probably too stupid to be playing games correctly anyways, considering you don't even know how to hold a simple controller correctly.I like my 360 controller better than my PS3 controller..It simply feels better in "my" hands...

your analogy sucks for 2 reasons,it sucks, the difference between the two controllers is hardly as big as the difference between a geo metro and a lamborghini, secondly, The Ds3 MAY be better on a technical level but what people prefer and actually think is better is down to personal opinion, personally, i think a Ford Escort RS 500 is a better car than a lamborghini, you do know lamborghinis are quite notrorious for breaking down right? The 360 controller actually has the advantage with not having the built in rechargeable battery like the PS3. Once the PS3 controller is drained you have to plug in via USB and sit close for awhile. Plus, once the PS3 controller loses it's charge cycle you'll be stuck with using a usb cable for good or keep buying new controllers.. With the 360 you can just get a rechargeable kit and just keep swapping batteries. PS3 controller doesn't give you that luxuary.
