Would you pay up? Why or why not?

Lets keep in mind, even if they say their going to offer free DLC, nine times out of ten, the content was created before launch and was cut out of the game for this purpose, you know it i know it... okay maybe not 100% :P but lets keep it in mind.

I wouldn't.

There's only one time I'd pay a subscription for something, and that's when it is just an overall better experience by a wide margin, and provides a lot of content compared to the competition

Considering there are a lot of PC fps games worth playing, and are really good with good communities I see absolutely zero reason to pay up for CoD. Especially not when a game like TF2 has better communities by far, and gets dozens upon dozens of free updates. I think it's had over 120 free updates so far.

My biggest fear is all the COD addicts pay to play the thing, and we see other shooters following the trend. Gaming is expensive as it is, more fee's like this are poo. Activision has 3/5 top selling games for the Xbox and PS3. I'm sure they have enough money.

Nope, I would never pay a monthly charge for a game like that. Games like Eve-Online and WoW work on the pay to play system as they add new content are constantly updated.

My answer would be nullified by me not purchasing Black Ops in the first place anyhow. The question is much more interesting if you apply it to a game you give a crap about.

COD has the biggest community, Activision would have to be the first company to kick this sort of thing off for other developers to see if it would work. Thanks to Kotick, the man who cares about money more than family/friends/ air , i wont buy another COD.

that said i have never payed for a game subscription and doubt i ever will. but hypothetically, if it was really awesome i would

I haven't purchased a NEW ACTIVISION product in over two years, due to my boycott. I was onto them well before they dismantled Infinity Ward.

I would NEVER pay, nor am I buying Treyarch's Call of Duty : Black Ops New...maybe used of course. Used assuming it is decent and impresses the critics, and cheaper than $40 used, used ensures ACTI gets no money.

That's how I got COD8:MW2, Used.

First of all i think its dumb even considering that possibilty, second as much as i love cod....no, i wouldnt pay extra to play the game online. But hey, with "lets say" like that, one can also say that if they released a singleplayer version only for 30 bucks as opposed to the multiplayer that requires monthly fee...then yeah its a world full of possibilities.

I either wont buy it at all, or i wont buy it new at least if it turns out to be a good game. If they charge monthly i think they'll find that COD isn't anywhere near as popular as they think it is.

No. if just Activision charged for Online play, it wouldnt work. There are too many viable CoD replacements. Right now, CoD does dominate the FPS market (except for maybe Halo). But if Activision charges, and other companies don't, CoD will go down in popularity. Now, if the gaming industry en masse went to charging for FPS's, then yes, I would pay for it. But as long as there are about as good options, I won't pay for CoD online. I'll just get into MoH or BFBC2, or more likely just focus on Reach as it will already be out by then.

dozens upon dozens? TF2 gets a new update once every 5 months or something

They had their 119th update on the 29th of April this year. Since then they put out the Mac update, and the Engineer update making it 121 updates.

So unless the game came out 50 years ago then no, tf2 does not only get an update every 5 months.

I don't see how Activision could get away with that. Even the hardcore COD fans would refuse to pay for online play.

I voted No taking it for the PS3 and Xbox 360's Case....but if Paying for Online play for Call of Duty Black Ops means better online play for the Wii then I'm not sure.

I dont' think they'll charge for playing. at this point, they can't distinguish the game and make it seem like it justifies a subscription. I do however, see them using an in-game store like Bad company 2's store, to sell swag items like gun camos and character skins.

I enjoyed MW for a brief period and really enjoyed it. Tried MW2 when it released ... will never touch another CoD aslong as its attached to Activision.

I don't even own a 360.

Like I said I'm not paying for a subscription unless it's significantly better than the alternatives. Since Steam is significantly better than Live then I have absolutely no reason to pay for it.

If you pay for it then it's not free. So DLC doesn't matter. Also, the DLC for COD games is always overpriced/underwhelming.

I'm probably not going to get the game anyway, but if I was it would have to be free up front to even consider justifying a subscription charge. And then it would have to work absolutely flawlessly, which it won't 'cause it's Activision pulling the purse strings.
