http://tombraider.tumblr.com/post/95495143805/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-faq

you know you've done shitty PR when you have to release FAQ afterwards

  1. What does exclusive to Xbox mean?
It means that Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming Holiday 2015 exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
  2. Does the exclusive to Xbox have a duration? Is it timed? How long is the duration? Can we expect a PlayStation 4 or PC release in the future?
Yes, our deal with Microsoft has a duration. We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
  3. Did Crystal Dynamics know about this deal?
Yes, Crystal Dynamics is excited to be partnering with Microsoft to make the best game possible. As Darrell mentioned in his message, we have a long history with Microsoft and they have been a very strong supporter of the franchise. They will help us grow and nurture the Tomb Raider franchise more than ever before.
  4. Were the fans considered when making this decision? Are Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix aware of the franchise history with PlayStation and on PC?
Of course. We did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.
  5. Why didn’t Microsoft, Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics say upfront it was a timed exclusive? Why all the indirect language?
We certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.

It's basic business.

The whining I get to an extent - people want to know whether this was exclusive or timed. Chances are we would have found out in upcoming months anyways, which is where I ultimately find a fault with how people treat others on the internet just because it's Microsoft pulling the bunny out of the hat.

"Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can"

Yes, whoring your game to a dead console with wimpy graphics hardware like the XB1 is the best way to reach that goal.

lot of butthurt cows out there

this decision might be the best thing for both Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix on the next entry in the series, the generation transition periods can be harsh times for developers and publishers, keep in mind the life of the Tomb Raider franchise hung by a thread with the last entry, and the last game despite its critical acclaim still didn't sell too well, this is probably the best deal to keep the franchise going through uncertain times, I don't see how hard it is to be clear about these points, being on the PS3 and PS4 and PC at the same time might not guarantee them the needed revenues to keep the studio open and the franchise going, but taking a large sum of money from MS is a sure thing, as is MS' to heavily promote this, and they'll still be able to one day publish on Sony and PC platforms

funny thing is, if Sony announced they did this nobody would be bitching, in fact probably the exact opposite, lots of "Sony loves gamers" platitudes, just another double standard MS has to live by

I don't like how both Sony and Microsoft hold entire game IP's hostage. It's ridiculous.

what games did Sony steal from multiplatform franchises?

Microsoft steals Dead Rising, Tomb Raider

Nintendo steals Bayonetta, Monster Hunter, Devil's Third

Nintendo and MS are far bigger criminal than Sony ever is in this type of crime

People still attempt to lump Bayonetta in here? It's a shit deal for the fans, but it's all because Sega didn't want to fund it. Nintendo is the reason why the sequel will see the light of day and that's that.

i blame certain consumers for whining hardcore that TR has timed exclusivity on the Xbox, people are not entitled to have a game on there system, makes me laugh how many 'entitled' gamers there are these days.

So you completely forgot about the Ps1 days? When SONY gave financial incentive to developers so virtually every game released on consoles was exclusive to the Ps1?

and dead rising was originally an exclusive franchise on the xbox so they didn't steal anything, they just turned it BACK INTO an exclusive franchise.

Did you also forget HAZE? that was originally a multiplat game.

Multiplat release all the way to Wii U confirmed in 2016.

SE must have been scared about B-tier Tomb Raider getting demolished by everything else in holiday 2015, no wonder they went to MS for easy money after the TR reboot financially flopped.

Tell me about it, some people take this shit far too seriously, they get upset about things that we have put up with for years, it's always been the same, if you want to play everything thats out there you have to own every system and Nintendo, Microsoft and SONY are laughing because only on here are they the greatest rivals on the planet, i bet they all sit around actually figuring out between them how to get everyone to buy every system, lol

tl:dr; It's a timed exclusive and will come to PC/PS4 soon after.

I do wonder how MS worked out the PS4/3 versions. Usually, they don't mind letting many of their games go to pc, since pc doesn't affect console sales much.

But does the contract mean the PS versions will never release?

I think the PC version will come out first, 3-6 months latter, and the playstation versions 6-12 months latter. But i could be wrong.

Most sales are fueled by the pre-release hype and all that hype would have died off a month or two after the XBOX release. It happens quite often when they delay multi-platform games for the PC. They end up putting in extras like exclusive PC specific graphics features to entice people into buying and often use these added features as an excuse for the delay.

This game will never come to ps4 so stop crying fanboy because sony fan are the true cancers of the gaming industry. Everything is so stagnant because all y'all want is 1080p. It shows in the games, it shows in the UI it shows in the attitude towards where the industry is moving.Crazy petitions, tweets, and bashing devs just because its not on your system is a ps fanboy calling and it need to stop.

Thanks lems for having standards so low, I might pick up the definitive version on PS4 released during the doldrums summer months.

Meltdowns over what? A B-tier sequel to an average game that flopped financially and got a massive backlash among the fanbase?

Enjoy your desperation rental. We all know UC4, MGS5 and Halo 5 will run over Lara Croft's irrelevent corpse. :)

lol not B-tier. This is what lemmings actually believe.

This image says everything you need to know about Box-Tick Raider. It's fitting MS rented the sequel - it overpromised and underdelivered.

They've had shitty PR for near a decade now. This was simply the last straw for me and I refuse to buy their games new anymore. Why? Because not buying their product is the only way that we can really prove we don't like what they are doing.

Before someone screams "butthurt", yeah, this fucking sucks. It sucks as much for TR fans in the PlayStation camp as the Bungie switch to Sony for those in the Xbox camp. Third party exclusivity on anything only hurts gamers and you guys appear all for it so long as it doesn't negatively affect your favorite camp. So quit squabbling among yourselves and voice your opinion to those that matter.

They are releasing a cross gen Tomb Raider in 2015??? *facepalm*. I don't mind having to wait for the PC version, but this X360 crap rustles my jimmies.

what games did Sony steal from multiplatform franchises?

Microsoft steals Dead Rising, Tomb Raider

Nintendo steals Bayonetta, Monster Hunter, Devil's Third

Nintendo and MS are far bigger criminal than Sony ever is in this type of crime

What crime?

Weren't you the one asking sony to make a game exclusive so you didn't have to share it with any other platform?

Relax . No one is bashing PS4 . We all know it's timed exclusive .

A good amount thought it was MS systems only. This confirms that's not true

Like all industry, the big company need to start trading [game] as well, just like kid.

For example, if Dead Rising 3 come to PS4, Sucker Punch gave a game to xbone.

tl:dr; It's a timed exclusive and will come to PC/PS4 soon after.

That's a very good question, I kinda have a feeling that it might not come to PS3/4 at all, kinda like Dead Rising 3.

I think it'll come down to whether or not Microsoft Studios is (co-)publishing RoTB.

MSstudio published games like DR3, Ryse and many others do end up on pc sometimes, but never reach the playstation has a general rule.

In contrast, PVZ Garden Warfare was xbox first, then came to pc a few months latter, and there's a PS version incoming

Titanfall also has no association with MS studios, and is xb,pc from the start. I think it's highly unlikely, but a PS3-4 version is not 100% the table. After all, we've been told that certain games where xbox exclusive before, only to turn around latter.

Also, if MS is publishing too, they should be paying for some of the costs, like development, marketing, distribution, something, allowing them greater influence on the platform decisions, aswell as makign RoTB require a lower ROI from sales for SE to be profitable.

That is, IF MS is publishing. Whether or not they just gave SE a big bag of money to keep out of other platforms for Christmas or not remains to be seen.

Amazon lists MS has pubisher, but that's nto a valid source, i guess.

MS is investing money into the game including engineering support. Don't hold your breath for a PS version. Phil isn't dumb enough to fund a PS game. He said the deal is similar to Ryse and DR3. Think of it like a lease with an option to own. MS will try and buy the franchise if it takes off just like they tried with Ryse.
