@silversix_: I disagree with the point they made, it's also challenging on Hard.

Another thing about the video is that, they talk like 1 minute about the positive aspects then go on talking about the cons for like 30 minutes, if i hadn't played the game i would've gotten pretty discouraged by this "review", smh

Yeah its not much of a review, more of a discussion about the negatives.

Yeah, the game isn't that easy on hard mode (obviously).

Great and well-written review!

Haven't finished the game so I can't really weigh in on the story but overall I'm in line with most of your points.

Btw, that rating system of the website is not good, I don't like scores in general tho, wish we could get rid of them completely.

yea, the scoring system is bad but I have no control over it. I'd prefer no rating either, or a 5-star rating would even be better.

Some points....

The plot isn't really underwhelming unless you gun through it. its made to move the setting forward and then resolve the ending. And really people should be looking back at ME2's awful plot before criticizing MEA too heavily on its plot. And thematically, its pretty good but too safe. The final three missions are great however and Hunting The Archon is a highlight. It may not be a great plot overall, but I would take underwhelming over nonsensical (which was ME2).

The angarian are the strengths of the story actually and Jaal is the highlight. Akksul may very well be the best villain in the game as well. The Angarian are used to mirror the Initiative. As for lack of new races, people should go back to ME3, look at the galaxy map and count how many advanced races per cluster. There are only one usually, so it fits the logic. So you have one native race, one invader, and one forgotten race. The original trilogy had a lot more races due to mass relay travel. It was the galaxy, not just the cluster. And really, another point missed was that MEA was really about the old races, not the new ones.

Also, I would not call the threads loosely connected. They are pretty well and tightly connected where one story matters to another.

Also, the story and the script are not as light hearted as you think. Its got more light hearted dialogue than the trilogy at first, but that's because the cast is more immature, not because the story is lighter. And you can tone down the goofiness but not using the casual option as it sets Ryder's autodialogue tone.

@AdobeArtist: Indeed! For instance, I've set the mesh on medium, which i don't even know exactly what it does lol, but i've set the Texture filtering on Ultra and other options on High. it's smooth af in Multiplayer and in Singleplayer sometimes it drops to 50 which is not noticable, overall it's been great.

I've kind of surmise that "mesh" is their way of labeling tessellation. It just sounds to me like it has to do with geometry. And I have that on Ultra, along with Texture and Terrain, everything else on High, getting solid fps.

But can we just get a standard of graphics settings already? The Division has 4 or 5 different shadow features, same with lighting and spot lighting... can barely distinguish the function of them all ??

So it seems that it's important ?

The Division did a great job with the graphics settings, hope others follow this routine.

Not sure if this is true, but lowering Shadows might give a noticable boost to fps, gotta try it

Went to the site that chart comes from, and now I have a much better understanding of the functional difference between shadows and shader quality, as well as what the Mesh does, which was close to my guess on tessellation, but also has to do with draw distance. But seems you can really optimize your results with maxing the shader and dialing down the shadows. Gonna have to adjust once again.

If you want thoughts heres mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArAaZa27RB4 made another vid with more views that I missed in this if you have seen the first vid and not the second give that one a go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPNxlhru1k4

Have to say a lot of what I said in my rant video came true, characters got better so did writing. and so on. but for me reviewers need to get rid of ratings and look back at a game when all DLC and patches are out. I mean I first played Dragon age inquisition GOTY and I was flabbergasted on how many eh reviews the game got then I realized I had the GOTY edition and then thought Why no reviews for it?

It's been two weeks since the launch of Mass Effect™: Andromeda and we’re thankful to the millions of you who have already joined us on this journey. And though the game is now in your hands, it’s really just the beginning.

Since launch, our team has been poring over your comments and feedback, looking to discover what you like about the game, as well as areas we can evolve or improve.

This Thursday, we’ll release a new patch that addresses technical fixes (crashes, improved performance), but also adds a number of improvements we’ve heard you ask for, such as:

  • Allowing you to skip ahead when travelling between planets in the galaxy map
  • Increasing the inventory limits
  • Improving the appearance of eyes for humans and asari characters
  • Decreasing the cost of remnant decryption keys and making them more accessible at merchants
  • Improving localized voice over lip sync
  • Fixing Ryder’s movements when running in a zig zag pattern
  • Improving matchmaking and latency in multiplayer

There are many more adjustments being made, all of which you can find in our patch notes.

Over the next two months we’ll be rolling out additional patches which will go even deeper and look to improve several areas of the game:

  • More options and variety in the character creator
  • Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters
  • Ongoing improvements to cinematic scenes and animations
  • Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder
  • Adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams

These upcoming patches will also address performance and stability issues. And we’re looking at adding more cosmetic items to single player for free.

For multiplayer, over the same timeframe, we’re going to continue to build on the APEX missions that have been running since launch. We’ll be adding new maps, characters, and weapons. On Thursday, we kick off the first of three new chapters centered around The Remnant Investigation.

This is just a taste of what’s in store as we continue to support Mass Effect: Andromeda. And as always, you all play an important role in that. We want to hear from you about your experiences, both what you love about the game and what you’d like to see changed. We’re listening, and we’re committed to partnering with you as we continue to explore the Andromeda galaxy together.

Here’s to a great journey,

Aaryn

@Kruiz_Bathory: It's been better than ME3 so far for me. Wait a bit for them to iron it out if you wanna play it.

^ So (as usual) they released an unfinished product and sold it as a premium. smgdh. So (as usual this gen) I'll wait for the 60 - 70% patched product and buy it at a discount.

Not sure I would say it's worse than 3, but it's definitely close(at least, from what I've played so far.)

I can't stand a lot of the dialogue. A teammate will say something, and you have a choice to respond, and then your character goes on to talk about some unrelated crap that had nothing to do with what they said. It happens way too often, and dialogue just flows so poorly.

2 is still the best ME, imo.

That's a terrible idea, that would only further disincentivize developers and publishers from re-examining their standards for quality control. And it's bad enough as is. If they know they can get a mulligan every time, that'll just be even more of a crutch they'll feel comfortable to rely on.

I support what Gamespot editor in chief (Tom McShane if memory serves?) once said in an interview on the this very subject, "If the product was ready to be put in the consumers hands and charged money for, it's ready to be critiqued."

If they're willing to charge for an unfinished or otherwise substandard product, that's how the review should be weighed. If they wanted/needed more time, it was on them to exercise that option so the game can be reviewed in that state, not just throw it out onto shelves because of an arbitrary deadline. And we've seen delays before, because it was necessary. Nobody "forced" them to launch, it's their decision how to release, so it's their responsibility and the consequences to deal with. Pleading for reconsideration after the deed is done is just excusing themselves from accountability, which they can't and shouldn't get away with. The score and review should reflect the game as they chose to release it in, not how it became down the line.

Just because games are now update-able, doesn't mean the value/quality shouldn't be expected to already be there from what's in the box. Especially if they're asking for our money for it. While it doesn't need to be "perfect", ffs at least have it in a reasonably polished and serviceable state when it's released for the public. Primarily updates should be for expanding on the content. It's the difference between giving more value to the player for a product that had good value to begin with, not giving it value after it was bought.

And I'm aware that in a less than ideal world, it's not easy to predict all possible issues in the code. Post release fixes for small and minor issues is something we'll always have to deal with. So long as it's limited to just that on release I won't complain too much. It just shouldn't be game breaking glitches that we have to tolerate that delays our enjoyment of the game we already have. So by all means let them be ready to fix the minor hiccup here and there, just don't use the patching resource as an invitation to take short cuts to deliver the value and quality incrementally after being paid for.

ME2 has by far the worst dialogue and the worst plot. Sorry to tell you but its true. Renegade Shepard is just a bundle of poor dialogue writing and is so inconsistent in ME2 you cannot make out what kind of character he is. The dialogue only works in ME2 if you are paragon.

And explain your character says unrelated crap statement, because that is simply not true.

People need to learn to stop ignoring ME2's clear flaws.

Dialogue is also fine, if not better. i dont know why people praise earlier mass effect games, they had terrible dialogue.

I did a quick test last night and the majority of my planet-side drops are gone. Little bit of a hit on the Tempest, oddly.

Putting that space-travel in was one bizarre design choice.

I just finished the game. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the game, but final boss fight was kinda weak Why wasnt I allowed to fight archon in single combat, instead I had to face waves of remnant enemies, Bioware could have done a better job with that. I am also guessing we will be getting a dlc to continue the main story. Many question have been left unanswered. I personally would give the game a 7/10, because there is a lot of room for improvement.

I see where your coming from but not everyone gets a game once it's out and over time especially now games will get better. there are those that review enhanced editions and even GOTY editions but it's not mainstream and it should be. I mean at the very least people could talk about whats better. But to me take the scores a way and say yeah this version is a must buy when the original was a wait till sale buy

1st.. I never stated or insinuated that the game was "broken".. I said "unfinished".. so just incase that "clueless dingbat" line was for me... please allow me to retort.. F*ck You! If not, disregard my previous comment.

2nd.. I have every game in the series (obviously from last gen) and enjoyed the hell out of them.. but the last game glitched so bad i had to start over after about 15 hrs in.. I have a history with this series and this developer. So as I stated before.. I'll wait until it's patched before investing in this game.

So after playing for 54 hours on this game, I can't play this game anymore. It's not because the game isn't fun (it most certainly is), the weird facial animations (I don't mind those that much) or the forgettable writing, but because I literally cannot continue anymore. Apparently, after you get a certain quest and return to the Nexus for any reason; your game will crash. All my saves are after I got the quest and they all crash as well. How in the world did Bioware let this get through QC? When I read the GS review, I thought they might have been too harsh. But after getting this game breaking bug? The score should have been lower. Hopefully, Bioware gets their shit together and fix this with their patch on Thursday.

That patch on Thursday is gonna be a God-sent. I might actually start again since I got my i7 7700k rig up and running.

hopefully a solid 60 fps on ultra. I really want to be able to skip space travel.

Patch supposed to increase performance or something?

@OneLazyAsian: that really sucks man. Something like that happened to me with 3. Right before the last run the game froze on me. Every save corrupted. And after that I completely lost the interest in finishing.

DAO had a bug like that. Come to remember, that game was buggy as hell.

@OneLazyAsian: Upcoming patches will sort things out, I understand your situration, but wait a bit for them to iron it out.

@mjorh: Bioware should first work on quest fixes, so no news of them is disappointing.

What do you mean by that?

This hurts my feelings...it appears this game is worse than 3? 3:

Not sure I would say it's worse than 3, but it's definitely close(at least, from what I've played so far.)

I can't stand a lot of the dialogue. A teammate will say something, and you have a choice to respond, and then your character goes on to talk about some unrelated crap that had nothing to do with what they said. It happens way too often, and dialogue just flows so poorly.

2 is still the best ME, imo.

Wrong. You are a pretentious douche.

@clone01: Him, i and everyone else. You never discuss anything with anyone. All you do is quote X person to call him/her an idiot. That's all you're doing on SW.

Nope. However, it warms the cockles of my heart that you're so concerned with my posting habits, vapid fanboy. So I'm glad I've provided you with a hobby.

I called you a vapid fanboy, not an idiot. So making the assertion that calling x person an idiot is all I do is completely erroneous, fanboy. You're not all that bright, are you?
