So Nintendo France announced console hardware sold in 2011 and 3DS did 761k.
That means we have NoA's PR stating that 3DS sold ~4m in US, we know through this thread that it sold 4.5m to date in Japan and now this.
Just these three countries 3DS sold 9.3m units and these are factual numbers. VGchartz is probably right in that 3DS has sold around 14m worldwide in 2011 alone.
I can see why the Vita may be doing poorly, what I dont understand is why the 3DS is doing so well. The system still has an underwhelming library and the cunnrrent 3DS has a few flaws (most notably the small screen, lack of a second analogue, and the top screen being far too close to the bottom). jonathant5
1) Appealing software sells hardware.
2) Nintendo games, at least, don't need a second analog in 99% of the cases, that goes for DS, Wii and 3DS, because their games are made specifically for the respective systems, to a point where they change the entire game design.
For example, they have moved on to an auto/fixed camera system in the Mario games, which eliminates the need of a second analog in Mario to control the camera.

Oh I agree that second analogue is not 100% necessary, and if a dev is talented enough, they can make a game without having to use a second analogue, for example SM3DL is excellent, camera changes for you automatically and well. But that being said certain types of games, like FPS and 3rd person shooters and RPG's will need that second analogue, so at the end of the day it is still a good thing to have. But no my main point was the software, to me at least, other than SM3DL and MK7 there arent any games out that would make one want to go out and buy a 3DS (I got mine on sale with a SM3DL bundle, it was $170 which was pretty cheap so I just went for it), so thats why its current sales, at least to me, dont make a whole lot of sense (from the game library perspective), granted the thing is dirt cheap (almost as much as one night out at a club) so that might explain why people just get it .cuz it is a small investment, but stillI can see why the Vita may be doing poorly, what I dont understand is why the 3DS is doing so well. I dont know what Japan has out, maybe the Japanese library of 3DS is larger/better than the Western one (although imo thats improbable, JRPG's and many Japanese made/games catered to the Japanese are pretty terrible nowadays), but the good games out now in the West are SM3DL, MK7, Zelda (remake but still an amazing game), Starfox 64 (3d effect is great imo), Pushmo, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Ghost Recon and uh thats about it...so yeah makes no sense from a game library prescriptive why it is doing well right now. Its damn cheap though so it is a low risk investment and people are probably curious about the 3D effect (i know i was).

Don't forget Professor Layton Mask of Miracle.lordlorsThere's also the SD Gundam and One Piece game. They both sold 200k each I believe.
Not to mention its promising lineup for Q1. Biohazard, Shinrei Camera, Ace Combat, Rhythmthief, New Love Plus, MGS, Theatrhythm, Kingdom Hearts, Kid Icarus, Dynasty Warriors, and I'm sure I'm missing many others.
Either way, to say that the 3DS "only" has Mario Kart or "only" SM3DL isn't really a good reason for system to not sell. Those games are system sellers. I bought the 3DS for 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 was also a month away back then. I'd be surprised if sales WEREN'T that big after the "big 3": MK7, SM3DL and MH3.
The 3DS deserves the sales it's getting right now. It delivers what people want and more is on the way.
Is 3DS getting a Gundam game? For some reason I thought that Nintendo and Gundam didn't exactly roll together historically.

I actually feel that it is, especially when that system can only play games and has no other significant complementary features, considering that the whole point of purchasing a console/handheld is to play games, it, to me, makes little sense why it is selling at the rate that it is selling given that there really arent many games to play on it. On top of that, since the current iteration of the 3DS has some flaws and that a new iteration of the 3DS is most likely on the way, well yeah current sales are unreasonably high. And really SD Gundam? Not a single Gundam game has been good and Gundam itself suck imo (then again I hate almost all Japanese Anime type of stuff so thats more of a personal bias then anything else). As for that list, Biohazard, Kingdom of Hearts, Kid Icarus and potentially Ace Combat are all going to be good games (most likely), but stuff like Dynasty Warriors? Those games are all simplistic low quality hack and slash games, and the MGS remake looks pretty bad (graphically, and well its a remake so nothing to really get excited about)I think it got one in December. I will confirm and post it here for you.Is 3DS getting a Gundam game? For some reason I thought that Nintendo and Gundam didn't exactly roll together historically.
PraetorianMan
I can't believe the Wii... a dead console with next to no new games is still beating the PS3 :lol:phonemug
I can't believe the Vita... a DOA handheld with next to no good games completely destroyed the 360. And how the hell did you conclude that 74,459 PS3 < 49,525 Wii?
PraetorianMan, the 3DS did get a Gundam game after all. It released the week before PS Vita, and in fact even got its own special edition 3DS.charizard1605Oh crap, really? And I thought that was going to be a good system mover for the Vita. Well... it still might be, but the franchise is not going to be any type of particular advantage to the Vita like I originally thought it would.
That's just your opinion. I think Uncharted is crap, but I'm not going to go around saying that it's a horrible reason to buy a console.EponiqueWell historically speaking, Gundam and Dynasty Warrior games have never been received well. DW is the one franchise that keeps coming back even though there has never been a single good think about it (can look at scores, or the opinion of everyone outside of Japan). Also, why are you bringing up Uncharted, it has nothing to do with the topic or what I am saying.

I think Nintendo has done a remarkably good job of securing every possible system mover for the PS Vita for its own 3DS. However, I think Sony might have an easy solution- they need to contract From Software to develop a PS Vita exclusive Demons Souls title. The Japanese love those games, and the IP belongs to Sony, so they wouldn't be in risk of losing it next generation. Moreover, its social gameplay styIe is suited to the kind of community gameplay Japan seems to enjoy on its handhelds. It could be the next big thing.
[QUOTE="Big_Pecks"]Am I too late to the funeral?Heil68Nope, once again PS3 beat Wii/360 combined. Well at least it does well somewhere i mean you know the whole being in last place the entire time thing.

I wouldn't buy a 3DS for Mario or a PS Vita just for Uncharted.

Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land are platform sellers. Those games push hardware, I think it's pretty obvious. Vita doesn't have any software that's going to push hardware like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land (yet).
The 3DS has great content coming up and has a pretty good library as of now, there's a lot of stuff to play but it depends on your taste. If you don't like a lot of what's there then you don't.

Just because sony's and ms don't sell as much a N games(which have exploded in sales compared to previous gens) doesn't mean they don't push hardware. Look at halo, gears, forza, grand turismo god of war, resistance, socom, uncharted. It will be interesting to see if N keeps it's momentum next genGood then that the 3DS has both the games AND the sales :shock:A lot of crazy fanboys in this thread.
Games > Sales.
Any half decent gamer would like more games.
Hopefully Vita will do better when it gets released Worldwide :shock:g0ddyX
[QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] This isn't a Sony is doomed thread. It's a Media Create sales chart, and it's posted every week. charizard1605The title of the thread does say the PS Vita is doomed regardless so, to some it would seem as such. I made no less than six Media Create threads back when the 3DS was failing that proclaimed that the 3DS was doomed. I never got any complaints then. Most of the time, the thread title is just an ironic remark towards general opinion on System Wars. This would be one of those instances. The topic title is also there to attract attention. Not to mention, the title is also stupid, misleading flame-bait. If you don't want people to perceive it as a "Sony is doomed" thread, then maybe you shouldn't present it as such.

Dayum, why so butthurt? Like I said, Chaz ALWAYS makes the MC threads. He wrote "3DS is doomed" on them when the 3DS did poorly. Why is it a problem all of a sudden?Did you actually read anything that I typed in two short sentences? it was only two sentences? How hard could that have been for you to read?
