I dont understand, why isnt an overpriced handheld with no games not selling very much?
This is gonna be another bad year for Sony since they will be forced to slash the price of the Vita and take in enormous losses............again.

Lulz what the PS Vita is not overpriced at all and it's launch line-up of games is good. Sony just doesn't have a Killer Ap for the Japanese gamers. Also, the one thing Sony did do very wrong were the memory card prices.[QUOTE="Fizzman"]Lulz what the PS Vita is not overpriced at all and it's launch line-up of games is good. It is overpriced. A device that only plays games for 250 bucks is a rip off in today's market. You can thank Apple for that.
There is a reason why Nintendo had to drop the price of the 3DS.

Lol what? The Vita is a multi media system like the PSP.
Does everybody forget that the 3DS was also selling poorly at the start and that they had to cut the price quickly? Chances are these companies already know that and they release the hardware at that price so that they can sell the first batch and then lower the price.kuraimen
And alienate their most loyal customers. Sound business strategy you got there. Nintendo did not plan on dropping the price of the 3DS. Sony doesnt plan to either, but they have no choice since Nintendo already did it.

You know something doesn't sit right if a handheld is worth more than an HD console.

It is a dedicated handheld gaming device. It's sole purpose is to play videogames.

PS3 and 360 are over 6 years old. PS Vita is newly released.[QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"][QUOTE="Fizzman"]

That may be I don't follow the mobile market but for a gaming handheld device that does what the PS Vita does and has, it is not overpriced.[QUOTE="kuraimen"]Does everybody forget that the 3DS was also selling poorly at the start and that they had to cut the price quickly? Well the 3DS is selling like hotcakes now so they are doing pretty good. Seems to me all these doomsday predictions by fanboys who know nothing about how the industry works are quite ridiculous and we have been hearing the same thing over and over since 2007.Lulz what the PS Vita is not overpriced at all and it's launch line-up of games is good. Yeah there was a reason, it wasn't made for Movies, Music, Streaming or other multimedia functions. Vita has them incorporated and it appears it does it far better in all areas. It's just the 3DS was too limited and is only now getting updates to add these functionalities that add value to the device, potential buyers didn't see $250 of value in the 3DS but now with the better titles coming out and the Ambassador program thing and these newly added functions AND the price drop it's like there's a big "3DS on Sale now!" sign above it. It's human nature to grab the bargains and Vita has not been price dropped so it's less enticing to people.[QUOTE="Fizzman"]

It doesn't have a sole purpose. Games are the main spotlight, but it has other purposes.
It sure does, but the consumer is buying the Vita for its gaming capabilities and in that regard its overpriced. Buy a smartphone which does everything the Vita does and make phonecalls or buy a Vita which just plays games and also requires a data plan. Sony screwed up again and thought the Vita wasnt competing with smartphones. Nintendo made the same mistake, but their brand name in mobile gaming is much mroe powerful than Sony's. Although the price drop is what saved Nintendo.

They sold 200 thousand units in a week. Far from dying if you ask me.[QUOTE="Fizzman"][QUOTE="kuraimen"] Well the 3DS is selling like hotcakes now so they are doing pretty good. Making one device will bankrupt Sony? I hardly think so. Unless they both completely dropped every other market and poured all of their financial support into one Handheld Gaming Machine then yeah maybe but saying they'll both go bankrupt if they make another system is laughable.[QUOTE="Fizzman"][QUOTE="kuraimen"] They sold 200 thousand units in a week. The point is that they would be burning money if they plan to release a PSVIta 2 and 3DSSSS with the same premise, gaming is the primary feature.
They have to go down the smartphone route with their next iterations.
No one in their right mind is going to pay 40-50 bucks for hand held games in 4-5 years.

I see, yeah the markets are shifting more than ever so being a static gaming device would be a bad idea. Maybe if Sony released their games for Android with an improved Xperia Play. I recon the Xperia Play was a "testing the water" device to see how it was received and to see if Sony should pursue that direction.Making one device will bankrupt Sony? I hardly think so. If the Vita fails, Sony will not produce another dedicated handheld console.
It only takes two consecutive gens of financial disasters in the console world before the company gives up.
Just look at Sega! Fourth gen Sega was riding sky high. By early sixth gen, the company withdrew from the console market.

People have been saying the same thing since 2007 :roll:oh man i really cant wait for next month to pick up my vita :D. system looks awesome! come on Square do your magic and start developing some final fantasy games on it!
lol last week when it was 70k, I was like, wait lets give it time. But now 40k, thats really low. I thought Sony were acting like, "all the pre-orders are allocated". But people still rather PSPs and DSs. Then again they probably cost a quarter of the price.
It's too late. They're already thinking of re-releasing FF7 on 3DS.oh man i really cant wait for next month to pick up my vita :D. system looks awesome! come on Square do your magic and start developing some final fantasy games on it!

I heard that Unchartered cost more. Like while other games will cost $40 Unchartered will cost $50 or something.

3DS suffered through some tough months too. I think the Vita just doesn't have a real system seller game for the Japanese market as of now.lol last week when it was 70k, I was like, wait lets give it time. But now 40k, thats really low. Honestly sony should have made Vita a decicated smartphone game macheine and maybe I would have even gotten it. Putting all that tech in it and ignoring most that people are more cofortable with their phonesdoing everything tech wisewas a bad business move.
Did you forget about the Xperia Play? I'd bet money that Sony makes a phone version of the Vita in a couple of years once they have the technology to make the Vita with the same specs but in a much more small and compact form. It's just a matter of time. For now though, the Vita is just too big to sell as a phone. Phones aren't supposed to be so big that they can barely fit in most pockets.Honestly sony should have made Vita a decicated smartphone game macheine and maybe I would have even gotten it. More terrible numbers for the Vita. IMO it will flop in the West as well.
Been a rough few months for Cows.
