[QUOTE="Mario1331"]In Japan, it only sold 250k units. My observations all apply to Japan ONLY.how is SS a flop? it sold 1.5 million already?
charizard1605
Zelda was never big in Japan like Metroid. I believe Wind Waker is the highest selling Zelda game in Japan, while OoT, TP and I assume soon to be SS beat it globablly
Japan has 0.5% of the population being Christians so... What holiday season I hear you say? Japan only celebrate christmas on small scale by giving small little gifts like a teddy bear or a book, not by buying expensive devices like Western Countries. And with the holiday period over, it's only going to get worse from here. Sony are idiots.

Xmas is still huge in Japan. Look at the 3DS sales.
Actually it will get better as it has only been released in the lowest selling area japanp4s2p0
I really don't think Japan is the lowest-selling area in the world, especially for Japense handhelds. For example, 200,000 3DS units were sold in Japan last week. :P

They don't have Christmas trees (or if they do, small plastic ones) and Christmas Day is a regular work day, but the Japanese still exchange gifts during Christmas.
The holiday season in general has become a gift-giving season in many countries around the world.
Even if they don't care about "the birth of Jesus," that doesn't mean they don't like giving each other gifts.
Japanese people in general love to give gifts to other Japanese.
Traditionally the Japanese haven't given large gifts at Christmas, but they're giving larger and larger gifts every year...especially for the Japanese children that want to receive gifts from "Santa-san."
The PlayStation Vita most certainly would benefit from being released around Christmas...maybe not 10 years ago, but definitely today.

They might buy their daughter jewelery, or their son a PlayStation Vita.
Stores are definitely crowded in places like Akihabara during the holiday season.

Im non christian yet celebrate it, it's more a culture thing than religion now though. Japan just has a totally different culture. It's funny how you say that, it's not a "tradition" thing otherwise we wouldn't have this "Holiday" crap in everything. "Happy Holidays!" to be exact. Christmas is based on religion, whether or not you celebrate it for religious reasons does not have to apply. In fact, it makes no sense for people to celebrate it when they're not Christian, because the whole purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, if you don't believe in that,w hy the hell do you bother with the gift giving and things that really aren't even the whole point of Christmas? :/[QUOTE="JohnF111"][QUOTE="lazerface216"]Im non christian yet celebrate it, it's more a culture thing than religion now though. Because it's fun.
Ever heard of the Christmas spirit? The thrill of spending time with family, playing holiday music and eating Christmas dinner?
That's why the Japanese celebrate it...it's just something fun they like to do. I'm not sure they even realize it's a "religious" holiday.

Yes the PSV will sell like hotcakes in America just like the PSP did, oh wait. This doom and gloom over the PSvita is kind of irritating. Don't ya'll realise it's going to sell like hot cakes in the US and the rest of the world, not to mention the 3DS had similary bad sales at the beginning because there were barely any games.
If they lower the price later on and if the library gets stronger, i think this war will be over.

Fact of the matter is that the holiday period in Japan is the biggest time of the year commercially as it is in western nations.

No. Actually Monster Hunter was released Dec. 10, Mario Kart Dec. 3rd, and Mario Land in November. So that doesn't explain 480k 3DS units selling the week of Dec 19-25In fact, it makes no sense for people to celebrate it when they're not Christian, because the whole purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, if you don't believe in that,w hy the hell do you bother with the gift giving and things that really aren't even the whole point of Christmas? :/ yoshi_64
I'm not Christian and I celebrate it.
It's hardly celebrated as a religious holiday anymore, it's a heavily commercialized event. I don't know anyone who celebrates it as the birth of Jesus.

New Years may be the most important holiday in Japan, but that doesn't mean it's a time to buy big gifts for others like the Vita.
People give post cards and food to each other during the Japanese New Year...and money for kids to go out and have fun at the festivities.
It's much more traditional.

You may not know anyone that does it because of the people you associate with. Next Christmas drive by some churches or the night before and they will be packed. Also during the Christmas dinner they will pray. I agree with Yoshi to me it does not make sense to celebrate a religious holiday if you do not even believe in the faith. Start focusing your attention on the west.

Nothing against japan but have they really put out alot of quality titles as quick as the US/EU does?
i mean ND,Santa monica studios,Gorilla Games, insomniac, can put out titles quicker and possibly a litte better. The only one to make big waves this gen was FF13(imo)

Can we drop the religious discussion here? This is not Off-Topic Discussion and instead we should be focusing on why the PlayStation Vita sold poorly in Japan. mario-galaxysWhy? Cows are blaming the poor Vita sales on irreligion in Japan.

That's right. The 3DS destroyed the DS when it launched.
On the second week (first 7 days after the launch of the 3DS), the 3DS sold 209k while the DS sold 17k.
On the third week (equal to where Vita is at right now) the 3DS sold 96k while the DS sold 13k.

February 22, babyDisappointing sales for Sony, and awesome Monster Hunter sales.EponiqueNext week, Monster Hunter 3G will break the million sales mark in Japan (the third 3DS game to do so) and may out-sell the original Wii version.
For a main Final Fantasy game, the sales for Final Fantasy XIII-2 are quite disappointing as the main games are usually multi-million sellers. It has yet to break the million sales mark.
