I wonder if the Wii-U will be emulatable like Wii was so quickly.... with these specs, maybe so...MBirdy88
This is a good question actually...
CPU is based on Wii's and a R700 is not exactly the most modern GPU...

So why don't they complain about PS3's lack of unified shaders or low (split) RAM?

I wouldn't be surprised if the console versions would be a different game tbh...
The first game wasn't different on 360 and I doubt a small dev like 4A would make to different versions .[QUOTE="nameless12345"][QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"] Obviously, it isn't a problem for their game.:|

It's pretty obvious Metro is reserved for high-end PCs...

Where says I don't have a PC? ;)
I won't say bottlenecking 3rd parties is a good thing on Nintendo's behalf but let's get real here - the console will be sold because of Ninty's own (exclusive) games, not because of some 3rd party ports.

It was implied you were playing metro on pc. There aren't too many gamers foolish enough to only have a ninteno console after all.[QUOTE="ChubbyGuy40"]
[QUOTE="Sushiglutton"] Not the point. If the Wii-U's CPU is too weak for multiplats at this point, it basically means Nintendo will be cut off from the third party market once more.mrfrosty151986
The Wii was cut off from third parties because the GPU was far too ancient to support modern techniques. .
And yet still out sold everything AND made more profit then any other console...
How can you compare a kids toy to a real console? That's like trying to compare calculator sales to laptops.
I guess the Wii U's lack of power will extend the PS3 and 360's lifecycle even further than their already amazingly-long lifecycles.

Not when all the multiplats are being bought for PC. I can't even remember the last multiplat I bought for my 360.
I'm a proud owner of a Wii U. I can admit they made a mistep by not putting a more powerful CPU in it.
Will that stop me from enjoying the console and the games for it? NOPE.
None of Nintendo's IP's are CPU heavy anyway. Not alot of AI going on in their games.
And the CPU is certainly powerful enough to keep up with whats offered on the 360 / PS3 currently.
Of course the Next XBOX and PS4 will outclass the Wii U in sheer POWER.... but didn't we know this already, its hardly news worthy.
If Rockstar ports GTAV to the Wii U, then we will KNOW that the Wii U's CPU is plenty capable. GTAIV is probably the game in recent memory to really work the CPU.
I have an especially hard time getting excited about the Wii U as a 3DS owner. I already have plenty enough access to Nintendo IPs over the immediate future - more than I have time to play. Power isn't everything, but I'm not exactly sure what the Wii U adds to my hardware collection yet.
Home consoles really should push power. That's the advantage of their design in comparison to more portable devices like handhelds and tablets. There shouldn't be any comparison between a home console in 2012 and a home console in 2005, yet here we are. To have a CPU that might be worse than their 6/7 year old competition really is preposterous, plain and simple.
To be fair, Crytek have tendencies to talk out of their ass.LAZY DEVS. Sound like an excuse. I believe more in this: CRYTEK Says Wii U Is Minimum As Powerful As Xbox 360. Stay calm Sheeps don't push the panic botton. For my Crytek>>Metro Devs. Graphics and optimization.

Power isn't the only factor though, they need to also crack the security of the console to get the games to run on a pc. Hence why despite the fact that the 3DS is not a power house it still has no working pc emulator. At least, thats what I assume is the case.

Nintendo used the slower CPU because they wanted to reduce heat and consumption and to keep Wii backwards support imo.
It's up to the devs now to make better use of the GPU than the CPU (think PS3's Cell + RSX combo where the Cell has to help RSX at rendering graphics - with Wii U it's the opposite situation, namely that the GPU will have to help the CPU at CPU tasks).
Even if wiiu couldnt do as advanced shaders as 360/ps3 lol which it can it could still do way higher resolution textures.

Effectively it's only about twice as much RAM, though, since 1GB is reserved for the system. I believe the 360 only reserved 32MB for the OS.[QUOTE="ocidax"]

There are also grumblings that the Wii U's RAM runs at a lower maximum speed than the 360/PS3's.

Woah... sounds to me like nintendo is going to have to upgrade it's system during next generation. It's gonna suck being a first Wii-U generation owner. I'm glad I never buy new systems unless they're 1 or 2 years old already to know what's up with it.

Wii-u is going to be a stop-gap system. Everybody but sheep seem to be able to grasp this. All the noobs in here blaming the devs.... Metro does a lot of physics and GPU calculations on the CPU whihc is why they're struggling.
The dev did not flat out say that Wii U could not handle Metro full stop, they said they would have to reduce the quality so much that it would make it pointless.
They could use the GPU to handle more CPU like tasks but again they only have so many GPU cycles and memory bandwidth to play with.

Nah, they're going to roll with it just the same way they did with the Wii. Nintendo home consoles these days only have a ~5-6 year maximum lifecycle anyway.Well if a console is as cheap as the Wii U is then of course it will have slow outdated hardware, but does anyone really care?
unreal championship original on xbox u can shoot rockets through smoke and it'll push it away dont see that on console games today.
LOL sheep blaming devs instead of Nintendo. A new console released in 2012 and it cant even play multiplats much better than consoles that came out 6 years before it, sad. A year ago I thought it would of played multiplats 60fps at 1080p no problem, but it wont be anywhere near as powerful as ps4 or 720. Now it bearly more powerful than a 360/ps3. Cheap ass outdated nintendo, your not playing with power anymore!

Doesn't work on consoles...
32X for Sega Genesis was a huge flop and 64DD for N64 never made it out of Japan (where it also flopped badly).
Since then consoles used no hardware addons.
Even if they wanted to give them addons (SNES style game chips for example) it's not possible because of how the consoles are designed now (there's no expansion slots, cartridge slots, ect.).
