Metroid Prime 3 will destroy all these game in gameplay because of past metroid prime games and theyve consistently been AAA , it will also use the wiis controller, halo 3 will have great gameplay also but will not live up to 360 current graphics, killzone 2 dont make me laugh, and crysis that game only has graphics weres the gameplay.

Metroid is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it's more of an FPA (first person adventure) game.  It really isn't comparable to some FPSes due to it's different nature and pacing.

Oh, and Crysis has some VERY unique gameplay.  If I had a link to the topic created a couple weeks ago I'd show you, but I don't have one but just read some previews.  That might change your opinion.

A question: will MP3 play like MP and MP2? If yes, then it will not be a FPS, so how can it destroy all FPSs this yea? Metroid Prime is a first person action adventure game, and it does NOT have First Person SHOOTER gameplay.

I really dont see why it couldn't.

I laugh at you people who think that it doesn't stand a chance. Metroid Prime won GOTY back in 2002 and it scored a 9.7! Metroid Prime 2 was released in 2004... only 2 years after the first, and now they have had 3 years to make Prime 3 amazing!

It could very well have online multiplayer, and it could very well be the best looking Wii game we have seen so far! Not only is Reggie claiming that its near perfect, but dont forget that it was first supposed to be a LAUNCH GAME! If it was ready back then, what do you think they have been doing with all of their time?

Matt C. from IGN played it back in September, 8 MONTHS AGO, and said the controls were near PERFECT! With a lengthy single player mode, and a probable robust multiplayer mode, Metroid Prime 3 could be better than the competition!

[EDIT] - Im not saying its written in stone, but I really would not be suprised if it happened...

-Sora

What the hell do you expect Reggie to say?, and didnt Echos get an 8.6?

Echos got a 9.2, HUNTERS for DS got an 8.6

It will not destroy any FPS this year because it cannot be compared to those games.

MP2's score deserved to be in the 7's. One of the most dissapointing games I have played.

I have to agree. I adored Metroid Prime, but I couldn't even finish Echoes. I got halfway through the game and I was like, "What the heck? Is this even from the same developer?"

WTF? TC

I think Metroid Prime is more of an adventure game with FPS mechanics. It plays quite different compared to a Crysis or Halo 3.

Lockon.

BTW I love Metroid. But I don't dillute myself into thinking that it can compete in the FPS genre even though it's an adventure game. It won't even have multiplayer, and if it did it would suck.

The FPS of the year will undoubtedly be Crysis. Halo will be fun too, and hopefully Killzone 3 delivers. But Metroid Prime is an adventure game, and it cannot change the fact that Wii is a terrible system for FPSes so far since it is not an FPS.

there's a lot of putting down the wii nonsense here.  The TC is going a bit overboard for show, but has a point.  I think that MP3 has a good chance of FPS of the year.  And yes, its a FPS.  Just about all FPSs have some adventure elements and puzzle solving, metroid is just heavy on the puzzles.  Not only that, but we dont know the direction of this game- maybe it will be more of a shooter this time.  The game will most likely support online, if MPH was any hint, and if it does have online it will be FPS battling

Anyway, this game has been getting rave reviews early on.  If this game captures what made so many people excited when they saw the wiimote as a gun, then it has a legitamit shot at even GOTY.  Again we dont know exactly how the game will be executed beginning to end, so we dont know, but then again we dont know how any unreleased games are executed.

I don't know many FPS's that concentrate on platforming as a main gameplay element.

MP3C will be compared to most shooters coming out later this year but those comparisons will be wrong. The game series is more about the adventure than shooting... and there are more 2D platformers/adventures in the Metroid series than there are first-person adventures. ;)

MP3 will have braindead enemies and not much (if any) reward for headshots and the like. It cannot qualify as an FPS because it's combat is not deep enough for the FPS genre. It uses lockon for cripes' sake, and that's with the Wiimote!

FPSes are about good graphics and applied use of spot-on shooting skills. If this is the best Wii has to offer FPS fans, then it's not going to catch on as an FPS console.

*sigh*

Firstly, lock-on in MP3C is going to be completely optional, thanks to the Wiimote. Secondly, lock-on is part of Samus's suit abilities and fits contextually with the gameplay. Thirdly and finally, Metroid Prime is not a FPS. It is a first person adventure that incorporates platforming and shooting elements.

Well pretty much it is, but it still goes as a FPS. Beside I think MP3 is going to deal with more shooting then the other two. Metroid Prime Hunters went to that direction also.

Not saying it'll be a bad game. I'm just saying don't try to call it what it's not. It's an adventure game, and adventure games can have lockon. It's not an FPS though.

Metroid prime gunplay is far from shallow.  You have to know when to lock and when not to.  You have to prioritize which enemies to kill at which time, since they often surprise you or come at you in groups.  You can use different visors and weapons for different situations.  The lock on feature of this latest MP, and most FPSes, which is actually a cop out, will be replaced largely by the wiimote, which rewards skillful and fast-paced shooting.

From what I've heard, Retro has scrapped the intense backtracking/search for Samus' weapons BS and made the pacing faster than before and more fun. That's should be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.

M8ingSeezun

Backtracking is what the series is known for.  Maybe I'm odd, but I always liked it that way.  Metroid Prime: Hunters on DS is supposedly one of the worst Metroid games to date...and it abandoned a lot of the backtracking....

I think you're forgetting about Mr. Freeman and his crew of merry freedom fighters

aka HL2: Episode 2.

purplemidgets

I am excited for HL2: Episode 2, UT3, Crysis, Quake Wars and Metroid Prime 3 for this year in terms of games that will be released that are shooters, everything else I dont really give a damn about. Halo 3 looks like a last gen game and considering I disliked both the previous two installments, I dont think its worth my time to buy a 360 for such an amature shooter.

good point

i'm kind of on the fence with retro's decision to have all upgrades ready to use from the start

one of the reason's why metroid was so great was that you always looked forward to getting that next upgrade so you could go back and gain entrance to that hidden area that you couldn't enter before

without backtracking, metroid just isn't the same

so i'm hoping they won't compromise the c1assic metroid backtracking gameplay elements for more fast paced casual-friendly gameplay.

but then again, this is retro in charge of things - so this won't turn out to be like hunters. i trust they'll do a good job.

Metroid Prime will have the best Single Player experience, and MP has the best gameplay, Halo is just a run and shoot FPS. Halo is good for it's multiplayer, it's SP is not that great, but it will still be ok.

 No online multiplayer. :|

Retro's stated that there will be an online component, but that it won't be derivative of current FPS standards.

In other words, there's online play, but don't expect capture the flag or deathmatch.

Halo CE's single player was awesome. Halo 2 is where it's single player started getting a bad rap.

I'm excited about MP3, it has alot of potential, and it's only some half a year away. I'm hoping it'll have a respectable multiplayer mode - at least as good as Hunters, and let's get some WIRELESS NETWORKING GOING ON. Wii's are relatively cheap, let's buy a few for the house! (if we can find them)

In terms of level of interest I have about each game, I'm gonna say: Halo > Killzone > Crysis >>>> Metroid.

I hate Nintendo for being the originators of the videogame sequel. Make some new original games please... My mistake, they have Cooking Mama, right? Aren't they releasing a health food game too?? Anyone up for some Cooking Mama 2? What a joke. Nintendo is going to be the death of video game development. It's like they are afraid of change. For god's sake, the Wii is a flattened Gamecube. I liked them better when they couldn't sell a console to save their lives...

Nintendo hatred asside, I really don't see what the appeal behind Metroid is. I played Metroid Prime on my GC and couldn't get past the first couple hours because it was so damned boring. Shooting laser guns are okay but every single FPS has them. Resistance has them, Halo has them, big f'n whoop. Cool, I can rool up into a little ball and... ummm... move and stuff. sweet. Cool, I'm actually a girl under the suit... it's cool because that makes the gameplay super sexy now... Cool... uhhh... did I mention that I can roll up into a little ball and all the exciting modes of gameplay that creates?

I hope that all these stupid first party Nintendo rehashes bomb so that they will force a stale company with a gimmick of a console to do something original. Oh and in case you're wondering, motion controls sure as hell aren't original. They are just the first company to sell it with success. A few months ago, people were selling "futuristic motion controlled games" at Kiosks in malls for 15 bucks. I could play ping pong on my freaking TV! Then Nintendo got some brilliant idea to stick their logo on it and all of a sudden it was the most original thing that anyone had ever seen. What do these brilliant motion controls allow you to do? Oh you can uh... roll up into a little ball and uhh... move around with it and stuff... cool!

So yeah, Metroid sucks.

Sorry about that rant but I hate fads with a passion... Now if you'll excuse me, I have to listen to my iPod as my furby broke and I can't find my Pokemon cards anywhere.

I completely agree with you about hating fads, but the Wii is only a fad until more games come out which genuinely take advantage of the wiimote. Also, this is one of the more bipolar arguments I've heard in a while. First you're saying that Nintendo invented the sequel and are thus afraid of innovation, and then you mention the Wii as being evidence of this? Really? So you're trying to tell me that slapping more RAM, HDD space and a more powerful GPU and CPU in a box (read: PS3 & 360) is more innovative than ignoring the "bigger is better" idea about graphics, and trying to take gameplay in a direction at least 90 degrees (if not 180) away from where videogames are otherwise headed? I really can't see how you can possibly make the argument that Nintendo is the most guilty of the 3 (or 4, if you count the PC) in this department; what exactly is so innovative about any of the other consoles (and please keep in mind, this is coming from someone who plays his 360 much more than his Wii)? No knock on Sony or Microsoft, because they made great products, but after playing each one for 5 minutes, I think most people will agree that the Wii clearly stands head and shoulders above them in said department.

Also, I'm not exactly sure what this has to do with Metroid Prime 3. You hate sequels, but you're more interested in Halo 3 and Killzone 2 (which may not even be good, if Killzone 1 is any indication) than Metroid Prime 3? So what you're really saying is that you don't really mind sequels (or lack of innovation), but you just really hate Metroid, and therefore are trying to justify that hatred? Again, to each his own, because I'm sure the more methodical and exploratory style of Metroid has put off many people over the years, but don't dress up your own distaste for the series. You'll find that plenty of people out there (myself included) prefer Metroid Prime to Halo any day of the week. Halo is the king of multiplayer consoles FPS, but for single player experiences, give me Metroid all the way.

Sorry to burst your bubble but MP3 wont probably even make top 3. I narrow it to Halo 3, Crysis as the main contendors. If crysis delivers solid gameplay it will win however I think Halo has the advantage as like the beta showed the gameplay is extremely fun. However dont count crysis out it wont have halo MP or anything but it could snatch the title.

[QUOTE="purplemidgets"]

I think you're forgetting about Mr. Freeman and his crew of merry freedom fighters

aka HL2: Episode 2.

DSgamer64

I am excited for HL2: Episode 2, UT3, Crysis, Quake Wars and Metroid Prime 3 for this year in terms of games that will be released that are shooters, everything else I dont really give a damn about. Halo 3 looks like a last gen game and considering I disliked both the previous two installments, I dont think its worth my time to buy a 360 for such an amature shooter.

hahahaha!! blind fanboys who havent played the beta make me laugh

Sorry MP3 will not beat Halo 3 even with its stupid gimmicky gameplay remote control =\

Halo 3's graphics will also be superior. Even without darkening the backgrounds and making rough surfaces shiny for no reason.

Halo 3's MP > MP3's MP if it even has multiplayer =

Story goes to Halo 3 too
