I hope this happens.
It'll make my 360/PS3 decision a LOT easier.
Actually, it won't even be a decision. It'll be an immediate response, executed by my checking account.

Change? did you read the link? Kojima was not quoted in that article. He has said nothing about it infact.
let me rephrase that for you: thats a change from his publishers prior position. was it really so hard to understand what i meant? konami said downright no before and now their pr rep is saying they're looking into it.
You specifically said "HIS prior position" I had no idea Konami, the company, was a he.
he's talking about the PR from konami.
why was is that so hard to understand?
Link to this PR guys prior position?

Thanks, I was gonna put MGS4:Recon drops in but that wouldn't make sense, then again Kojima sometimes doesn't make sense.

to be fair.
MGS4 was probably a key figure in a lot of peoples decisions... if they were torn between say, gears or MGGS and MGS goes to xbox, its pretty obvious they'll be annoyed because they could have got a 360, played gears and got mgs4 later

It is still a rumor but having a Konami official saying they are looking into a 360 version of MGS 4 kinda gives it some credit.
What is the next big event? Maybe MS will have a 'surprise' for that (or maybe make their own)

personally, I'm surprised that they'd even acknowledge that they were actively looking into it. they've been saying that it's a PS3 exclusive for so long and denying rumors for so long...it just always surprises me when the nuance brings them another step closer to MGS4 Substance. Money talks, my friends. And 360 gamers buy games. And Microsoft spends money like they grow it in a secret laboratory under their Redmond base of operations. My gut tells me that it's just a matter of time before a 360 version is announced. The XBox 360 install base must be tough for Konami to ignore - especially now that the 360 will most likely sell like hotcakes this holiday season due to the price drop.
Personally I won't be buying this game even if it is released on the 360 - to me FFXIII was a much better pickup. I've already tried MGS4 a few times and it doesn't interest me. I guess I'm just not a MGS fan.
IDK, sounds confirmed to me..even if they say "We are looking into it" they wouldent say that for no reason, if it was false, they probably would have just said no, or "We have no plans to make MGS4 on XX platform", this leads me to believe that this game will, sooner or later, be ported to the 360, hopefully they do a PC version and Release it on steam, That would be pure bliss.
But face it cows..its just a matter of time.

lol. agreed.Awesome news for one of my friends. I bought him that Essentials Collection for PS2 and he ate it up and wants to play MGS4 but only has a 360. Very good news for him. :D
I could honestly care less.
If this happens, it would just prove what I've been saying all along.
The Third-Party Exclusive is DEAD.
Quickly:
MGS4 on PS3 is on a dual-layer Blu Ray disc. Packed to the brim.
The Xbox 360's DVD-9, according to John Carmack, has less than 7 gigabytes of storage available to the developers to place data on. John Carmack ALSO said that shipping Rage on 3 DVDs would be cost-prohibitive...that they instead chose to ship it on 2 DVDs while sacrificing the visual fidelity of the game ONLY on the Xbox 360. Why was it so cost-prohibitive? What he said were ridiculous licensing fees that Microsoft refused to waive.
That, and the game had a MANDATORY hard disc installation on PS3, spat out 7.1 surround sound audio, and ran on a proprietary online service that would obviously conflict with Xbox Live both in terms of digital distribution of content and the actual network distribution.
Let me put it this way....Konami, considering this or not (one PR rep said this, according to the quoted article in the OP, not Hideo Kojima, who has only reiterated that it was a PS3 exclusive, period), is going to immediately turn it down when they realize how cost-prohibitive putting this on....well, let's calculate how many DVDs.
Assuming it filled up a 25 gigabyte single-layered Blu Ray, which it has,
25/7= approx 3.6 DVDs or 4 DVDs
Now, assuming it's roughly 35 GB:
35/7= exactly 5 DVDs
Assuming it is anywhere near the 50 gigabyte maximum (which Ryan Payton, before release, said it JUST ABOUT was):
50/7= 7.14 or 8 DVDs....although, let's be kind and say roughly 7 DVDs
Oh, and let's not forget the repetition of crucial assets, including sound files, character models, weapon models, and other environmental details that would be filling up DVDs, causing it to probably far surpass the numbers I've given in reality.
This would be unimportant if it were up to the end user to simply switch out DVDs at their leisure, especially considering the obvious compression that would immediately take place for all the game's audio (especially considering 360's maximum output of 5.1 surround sound), but even so, considering that Carmack found 3 DVDs to be cost-prohibitive (even against a visual downgrade, a console fan's nightmare!), it is hugely unlikely they'd ship the game on anything greater than 3 DVDs. And that's being pretty generous
Asking Microsoft to not only bribe Konami (come on, you know they do it) and THEN waive their costly DVD-9 licensing fees? Now we're dreaming.

MGS4 would come to the 360 on no more than 4 discs. If that.
they'd simply compress the sound, which accounts for much of the size of the game on blu-ray.
The most despicable thing about this possible port is that most 360 owners don't even care to play it. They just want to come to forums like these and be total jerks.nervmeistersince when? they seem to have bought all the other former PS3 exclusives pretty meaningfully.
wait are people unaware about the bunch of sony advertising in the game?? It has tons of it sony products in the game proof that sony helped konami making this game. Now that im thinking about it, i highly doubt it.blazinpuertoroc

and how is a ps3 controller in the game proof sony had a part in the game's developement?

my simple division didn't take into account the fact that they'd have to repeat crucial assets on each DVD so that it could be accessed, unless it were stored on RAM or the hard disc. Guess which one the 360 doesn't have as a standard?
No more than 4 discs? How many discs did Carmack say was cost-prohibitive? That's right, more than 2. You fail. It's not shipping on four because my case is airtight. It's not shipping period. Get over it.
Konami to cows -
Who cares if we port it? Despite the fact that we hyped it to high heaven as THE major reason to own a PS3? WE ALREADY GOT YOUR MONEY. LOLZ. 360, CHA-CHING!

And considering MGS4 probably cost more money to make than RAGEwill, it would be really cost-prohibitive.
And another Konami-Microsoft battle that could happen is would M$ allow Konami to run its own online system or would M$ force them to use live?

you can't include "crucial, repeated assets" because you're not a designer, nor a developer...and your analysis is at best, a guess from someone who has no real clue about any of these things. just conjecture. and it doesn't even really qualify as conjecture. It's just guessing based loosely on limitations as you understand them.bottom line: if MGS4 is coming, it'll be on 2-4 discs. max. and it won't be much of a hassle for them.

Have you ever wondered why exactly the game "needs" Blu-Ray?
If its sound files, those can easily be down-sampled.
If its textures, those can be compressed.
It's definitely nothing else, because in terms of content, many 360/PS3 multiplats have had longer and more varied experiences than MGS4's campaign.
I just busted your case wide open... :)
