please, for the love of all that is holy, read the links that were provided. the game shipped nearly 4 million. it sold less than 1.4 million worldwide.
I ordered mine 3 days ago... So I'm sure others are buying it, but I agree most of the people who really wanted it probably would have it by now (But then again 3+ million sold and 4 million shipped isn't exactly bad :D)Dreamable
it shipped 3.94 million to stores. it sold less than 1.4 million worldwide. how the hell is it that there are several pages of facts proving this and yet still some people think that the game sold 4 million to the customer.

if that were true, it would be on NPD's top ten list of best selling games of this year. there is no doubt they sold atleast 1 million copies, but it could not be no more than 1.4 million.

The game already sold around 3-4 million copies already. Most people who want the game probably already got it. So it wouldn't be surprising that the game isnt' selling as well as it used to. Elviathan
*sigh* it shipped 3.94 million to stores worldwide. of that they sold less than 1.4 million copies to the consumer. why is it that people purposely believe BS rumors even when there is undeniable proof that it is not true?

i just looked and it does fall in line with konami's statement of 3.94 million shipped. before you blow up about what i just said, let me make things clearer. konami counts shipments to retail stores as sales, just like what ms does for console sales. to them it's a sale for the company. NPD counts sales to the consumer as sales. according to the latest NPD numbers, mgs4 sold 1.4 million copies to the consumer.
now in system wars, sales to stores, otherwise known as shipments, do not count, only sales to the end-user, sales.
so konami may have shipped 3.94 million units to stores, but only half of those were sold to gamers. did i make it clear?

 No they didnt, it clearly states reported by the NPD Group NPD is North America only! Meaning Metal Gear Solid 4 has sold 1.4 Million in North America ALONE! And to futher prove my point:
June 2008 NPD Numbers (North America ONLY) Shows Metal Gear Solid 4 Sold 1 million, then factor in July and the rest of August and you got 1.4 million sold in NORTH AMERICA ONLY.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) -- 774,600 (Roughly 1 million including bundles)
EVOLV3
nope. true NPD reports north american sales but in the top ten list, the NPD numbers were compiled with GFK and Enterbrain to creeate the list.
here's the top 5
mgs 4 sold 1.4 million worldwide. they may have shipped one million to north america, but they didn't sell that many to the consumer. even konami's own reports says they shipped 3.94 million copies of the game, they did not sell that many to the consumer. if they did, the game would be number 3 on the list, but it's not.

:| Metal Gear Solid 4 wouldnt be on that list either way, it didnt sell over 3 million. Alright here im gonna break it down for you.
North American Sales According to NPD: 1.2-1.4 Million (Just North America)
Japan Sales According to Media Create - 576,437 as of July 9th. So Its over 600 000 in Japan.
Europe Numbers According to Konami - Konami has reported that MGS4 sold over one million copies across Europe in its first week,
Alright so lets add it up.
1.2-1.4 Mill in North America
600 000 in Japan
1 Million in Europe (That 1 million is only the first week sales)
It comes out to about 2.8-3 Million. WORLDWIDE.EVOLV3
actually, the most complete version of that list i have posted before and it only shows eight of the top 10 with wii-fit at number 8 with 1.4 million units sold worldwide. hense, if mgs4 is not in the top 8, it did not sell more than 1.4 million units. what you continue to post are the shipment numbers. konami whas said that they have SHIPPED 3.94 million units to stores. npd, gfk, and enterbrain take the amount of games SOLD from the stores to give accurate numbers about the actual sales. mgs4 shipped nearly 4 million copies to stores, and you numbers show that, but the actual amount of games sold to the consumer are less than 1.4 million worldwide. shipped=/=sold.

here is the link that contains 8 of the top 10. here is an excerpt:
So what titles will likely make the top 10 software titles for 2008? Here is a quick preview:
Grand Theft Auto 4 – Over 4.2 million units
Super Smash Bros. Brawl – Over 3.2 million units
Guitar Hero III – Over 2.5 million units
Mario Kart Wii – Over 2.4 million units
Wii Play – Over 2.3 million units
Call of Duty 4 – Over 1.6 million units
Rock Band – Over 1.5 million units
Wii Fit – Over 1.4 million units
That's already eight titles with sales greater than Metal Gear Solid 4, and most of those will continue to experience significant sales throughout the rest of the year. And though it is far from guaranteed, big sequels will likely make it onto the final list: Guitar Hero: World Tour, Rock Band 2, Gears of War 2, and Resistance 2, among others.
as you can number8, wii-fit, sold 1.4 million, meaning mgs4 sold less than that.
What do you expect? A game can't be on the top forever...http://www.edge-online.com/features/in-depth-analysis-games-and-console-sales?page=0%2C1
Apparently MGS4 has totally dropped off the sales radar - just as I predicted it would many months ago. It turns out MGS4 isn't the strong seller everyone thought it would be, and isn't pushing as many PS3 units as some in SW said it would. Is it a game for the hardcore? Some people I know that love the series couldn't even bring themselves to finish it - did Konami alienate some of his fanbase with MGS4? If not why do you think the sales have totally dropped off?
Thoughts?

simple enough and i see the mistake that i made now. not bad at 2.7 million sold in 2 months. not exactly what sony was looking for, but it did well for itself. on a side note, damn you edge, make ---- clearer.

Not exactly what Sony was looking for??? Do you remember by how much the PS3 outsold the 360 in June, by around 200k. And that is only in NA, not even mentioning the fact that the MGS4 Bundle is still sold out in alot of places and a top seller. Sony doesnt depend on ONE game to push its consoles. It uses value, multimedia features and multiple exclusives to make it the system to buy.

with the amount of money and time sony and konami spent developing and advertising this only to have it sell well for one week and and push console sales for only one month, that's a fail. this wa suppose to be selling like halo 3 and gta 4 but instead sold a lot of a limited time and sales just got shot to hell. that was the point 3picuri3 was trying to make with this thread. that the ps3's biggest game, the game that was supposed to turn things around for sony only sold well for the month of july, then the sales vanished like a fart in the wind.
THOSE SALES DON'T INCLUDE HARDWARE BUNDLES, WHICH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS IN THE U.S. ARE SOLD EVERY MONTH WITH MGS4.

still not the 4 million most cows claim. the mgs4 bundle is sold out everywhere which is a very good sign but don't count as software sales because the game is packed in. this is true for all bundles like the forza 2 bundle and the future uncharted bundle.

this was billed as the game that would save the PS3, the game that would put the PS3 on par with the 360 in terms of total sales, but unfortunately it's completely dropped off the radar as of this month and isn't expected to make the top 10 this year.
what happened?
I know that the main reason I bought the PS3 is because of the Bundled MGS4 game along with the rumble controller and the backwards compatible 80 gig. I had played Metal Gear since the NES so when I only had a 360 I was pissed! So I bought my ps3 to play MGS since I already played the 1 through 3. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be but it was good enough. Anyway I am glad that it did reach the millions of sales that it did but no game is going to sell forever. Sooner or later its off to the resale bin or the 'greatest hits' pile.
Metal Gear did not reach Halo Heights but at least they made enough to justify the cost of creating MGS4. Didn't they?
Go Hideo!
[QUOTE="Chutebox"][QUOTE="cowgriller"]simple enough and i see the mistake that i made now. not bad at 2.7 million sold in 2 months. not exactly what sony was looking for, but it did well for itself. on a side note, damn you edge, make ---- clearer.

Total sales? I'm sure they really thought it would move over five million PS3's... People sure like to exaggerate. Please Log In to post.
