I can't believe there are that many copies of Halo 3 out there to be purchased. That number blows my mind. It's only been out 3.5 months.Dreams-Visions

Ok! Who is heck is out there buying multiple copies? JK, good news for MS. I am sure Halo fan love it.

You don't need to be a casual game to sell well on the 360.... 360 owners eat up games like no tomorrow. Theres something like 30 1million+ sellers on a console that is barely 2 years old, that is amazing!

Not really that impressive when the Wii has 13 million+ sellers with what people consider a weaker lineup. Plus, with dev costs being significantly lower on the Wii, a million seller on the Wii means more profits for the publisher.

[QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="i_like_pizza"][QUOTE="gamesfan87"]

So then mr genius tell us what 360 needs that the Wii and PS3 has

i_like_pizza

Quite seriously, it needs something different. It needs something to set itself apart from the everyday, run-of-the-mill console. Its software is not good enough to do that, obviously, because it hasn't done that yet. So, I would say that it needs to expand its audience by introducing new types of software. It doesn't have to invent anything, but it just has to establish itself as a good console for a ton of different genres, and at this point, it is not strongly represented by any genre except shooters. Does it have some good JRPGs? Yes. But is it a JRPG gamer's paradise? No. Does it have some good racers? Yes. But it's not a racer's paradise either. The point is that it's just an updated Xbox. It's got the same games targeted at the same audience, and it is not going to move anywhere by doing that.

It's really sad how you try so hard not to give the 360 any credit at all.

FPS is my favorite genre. I like the 360. I really do. I played Halo 3 till 6:00 AM last night/morning. It's a fine shooter console (although I do enjoy my PC shooters more). But besides that, it doesn't have anything to offer my that my PS2 can't do better. I was a late PS2 adopter, and I could catch up on well over a hundred games if I felt like it before I would even consider touching a 360 for them.

Online multiplayer. Hell, the Xbox had better online than the PS2.

That may very well be true... but I actually don't play anything online except FPS and RTS, both of which are best experienced on PC, imo. If I was into other genres online, though, that would be a very good point.

Whatever. If you think Wii Sports was built to be an epic powerhouse like Mass Effect, you're more delusional than I am.

Wii Sports is the best and most impactful game of this console generation. Moreso than SMG, Halo 3, Gears of War, or anything else you can name.

To belittle that is nothing short of foolish.

That's laying it on a bit too thick. Wii sports is nothing without the Wimote. If you played those games without it they'd be pure trash.

And? That just means that the Wii will definitely have the highest install base this gen and that third party devs should start releasing more of their games on the system since according to you, casuals will buy anything. Less dev costs, higher install base, high sales = success.

Those numbers look better than the original Xbox but I wonder why sales fell from last year, especially since this year so many great exclusive + multi-plat games were out for the 360, I think that would be something for MS to ponder over in 08.

Saying Wii Sports is nothing without the Wiimote is like saying cookies are nothing without flour.... it just doesn't make sense, because the two go together. Wii Sports was made to show users how the Wiimote can be used and just how much fun it can be. You can't separate them.

Success is not determined by your preference of which console. And the games are coming, but hopefully the majority isn't shovelware.

That's the problem. It's about as deep as a cup of flour, and it shows after 5 minutes of play. Is it fun? Hell yeah. But the best game this gen? Please.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are just as popular... And fun for a hell of lot longer.

That's a pretty dang sad year, considering the "great" titles they had this year. Apparently, if you just release a whole bunch of great titles toward one audience, it's not going to do anything to expand that audience. Whodathunkit?

If they want to ship more than 7 million 360s next year, they had better get some variety in their lineup. As it is, the 360 is a strong shooter console, but relatively weak in every other area.

Those are good numbers for Halo 3, considering that its already done better than Halo 1, and it will likely pass Halo 2 before the summer.

Just as popular? Wii Sports will be the highest-selling game this gen easily, and that's not just because it was bundled. It has a 50% attach rate even when not bundled. It will sell more than 20 million easily.

The rest of that is purely subjective. I think GH and Rock Band are tons of fun, too. But neither of those games is going to have the impact on this generation that Wii Sports will have, and that only adds to the legacy of what Wii Sports will become in gaming history.

You can't play sales.

It always amazes me when people say this in regards to the system that has the most titles and the highest rated titles...

People say it everywhere else, so why not here?

I can't beleive there are people on this forum who don't realize that selling well over 10 million copies in a single year might indicate that the game has a good quality to it.

Wii sports is a packaged with every Wii console sold. Don't confuse Wii Sports with Wii Play.

not in Japan, and it still has a 50% attach ratio. It would have sold 10 million regardless.

That's because casuals will buy anything.

And? That just means that the Wii will definitely have the highest install base this gen and that third party devs should start releasing more of their games on the system since according to you, casuals will buy anything. Less dev costs, higher install base, high sales = success.

Casuals buy the Wii for Wii Sports and not much else. The hype is starting to dye down for the console and people will see that it is inferior to 360/PS3. The Wii is about short term gains but long term failure. Plus its in a completely different market, sure its a game console, but not a real one.

[QUOTE="heretrix"]Online multiplayer. Hell, the Xbox had better online than the PS2.i_like_pizza

That may very well be true... but I actually don't play anything online except FPS and RTS, both of which are best experienced on PC, imo. If I was into other genres online, though, that would be a very good point.

Oh, In trouble,

need.... to... hide... behind...., PC!

Huh... ???? Where did you come from? Nice of you to join the conversation to add nothing meaningful. How is it hiding in the slightest to just state my preference. Tons of people think RTS and FPS are better on the PC? Why should I be criticized for my opinion?

You defend Nintendo like if its your father,

but when the argument gets down to the nitty gritty,

PC comes along and saves the day!

What's so hard to believe? The game is fun. People still enjoy it to this day. I break it out from time to time and play it with family and friends.

Ofcourse you do. I mean who doesn't like to waggle and wiggle their arms to a simplified (1980s) game?

That's a pretty dang sad year, considering the "great" titles they had this year. Apparently, if you just release a whole bunch of great titles toward one audience, it's not going to do anything to expand that audience. Whodathunkit?

i_like_pizza

And if that narrow audience goes through games like Lindsay Lohan goes through coke? Almost every month this year, there's been a new shooter worth playing. Some months, there's been a new racer worth playing. Halo, BioShock, Orange Box, The Darkness... I'm sure MS would love to have tons of customers buying tons of games, but if that's not realistic, a few customers buying tons of games isn't a bad alternative.

So, the next time someone mocks the 360 as a shooter/racer console, remember that those shooters and racers are selling quite well.

Really? because I was under the impression that the Wii obliterated everything in hardware and software sales this Holiday season worldwide.

Hmmm... I must have been thinking of a different planet or something, because that doesn't seem like dying down to me.

If I gave away a game, it would have sold more 100 million. You understand where I'm going with this. Its like claiming the Halo 3 beta sold 1 million .... but infact, Crackdown, sold 1 million.

[QUOTE="heretrix"]That's the problem. It's about as deep as a cup of flour, and it shows after 5 minutes of play. Is it fun? Hell yeah. But the best game this gen? Please.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are just as popular... And fun for a hell of lot longer.

i_like_pizza

Just as popular? Wii Sports will be the highest-selling game this gen easily, and that's not just because it was bundled. It has a 50% attach rate even when not bundled. It will sell more than 20 million easily.

The rest of that is purely subjective. I think GH and Rock Band are tons of fun, too. But neither of those games is going to have the impact on this generation that Wii Sports will have, and that only adds to the legacy of what Wii Sports will become in gaming history.

Guitar Hero is available across all platforms including the PS2, maybe you should rethink those numbers. Guitar Hero IS just as popular as Wii Sports. And it's not a pack-in title like Wii Sports, which makes it even more impressive.

gamesfan87

And yet the Wii has 13 million+ sellers. Almost half the amount of million sellers as the 360 with a supposedly inferior game line up. Where do you get that they don't buy much else? Link please.

The hype is starting to die down? I haven't been to the store lately to see if they have Wiis in stock, but being completely sold out in the US for its entire first year is an incredible feat. If there are Wiis in stock right now, it's finally normalizing rather than dying down.

And if people haven't seen that it's inferior to the 360/PS3 yet, what makes you think that they'll suddenly start to see that? In fact, the Wii is more of a long term console at the moment than the 360 (on par with the PS3). Just look at the quality of the hardware for the 360. "Things break" is all I need to say.

The excuse that it's in a completely different market is funny. I guess the PS2 was also in a different market from the GC and Xbox since it sold primarily to the casuals. Great logic there :)

Yeah, I suppose MS is much happier with where they are now than they were last gen. Last gen they had mediocre software sales with poor hardware sales. This time around, they have good software sales with mediocre hardware sales. Not terrible, but they aren't gonna get to the top this gen.
