Microsoft is as always doing its awful business practices. Like making us pay 60$ a year for p2p online and giving us a system that breaks up to 35% of the time and changing to focusmore on causal games late into the systems life. Almost all of its games end up on the pc anyways. Every dev they buy they drive into the ground

On top of this they even push theirxbox live gimmicks into the pc.

Why do you all keep buying from them? why do you keep buying unsafe and slow windows time and time again when you can go elswhere? Why do you buy a system that took like 4 years for ms to get right? Why to you pay for online that wont let you update games without paying for it (tf2)?

The "everything I don't like in gaming is cancer"-mentality needs to stop. For every prodcut ever created there will be people that don't like it, that's why you're free to get something different. It's the nature of things. The Live fee has been well-known since the 360 was introduced to the market, if you don't like it, don't get a 360. It's as simple as that.

why buy the ps3 when the 360 has a much bigger library, more critically acclaimed games, more variety, and fewer games shared with the pc?

oh and the ps3 has a 11% failure rate according to cows. that's so much worse than rrod because sony forces you to buy a new one when it breaks

I agree that Live is terrible, but Windows? The only system you can play all games on is Windows. Yeah, good luck playing BF3 on a mac or linux.

That's funny, I dont remember being forced to pay for live or buy an Xbox 360.

I do remember wantingto buy a 360 and use party chat with friends, and the price didnt matter to me because i thought it was comparable to my ventrillo server rental.

Guess that MS mind-Control got to me too, along with a sizeable chunk of Sony's fanbase.

I agree, which is why I'm happy they are pushing the casual side of things, as I believe it will eventually take them out of the race.

On the balance I view Microsoft as a company that would be much better off not existing at all, but be that as it may their record in gaming is far more mixed. In gaming at least they've had a number of good ideas.

All the same, I would strongly discourage ANY developer from allowing Microsoft to absorb them as your point about Microsoft developers is if not objectively correct, at least very close to accurate.

I do remember wantingto buy a 360 and use party chat with friends, and the price didnt matter to me because i thought it was comparable to my ventrillo server rental.

Plagueless

Mostly unrelated to the topic, but don't use Ventrilo, use Mumble. It's better (sound quality) and I believe cheaper as well.

Actually that's one of the main reasons why it is a cancer. Imagine if Windows didn't have a virtual monopoly of the home PC market. We could have a completely gaming dedicated OS for gaming, with all resources dedicated to gaming 100% free and much more efficient and robust than Windows is. But as long as Windows keep their monopoly on the OS front and on APIs such as DirectX then that's never gonna happen probably not in my lifetime :(

Almost all of its games end up on the pc anyways. Every dev they buy they drive into the ground (I actually agree with this one).

On top of this they even push their PS3gimmicks into games they shouldn't.

Why do you all keep buying from them? why do you keep buying overpriced televisions and peripherals time and time again when you can go elswhere? Why do you buy a system that took like 4 years forSony to get right? Whydo yousupport online that was shut down for weeks?dontshackzmii

I changed the bolded items...obviously. I hate to break it to you but no company is a saint. They are a corporation founded and designed to dominate marketshare and generate profits for there share holders. If MS, Sony or Nintendo fail to produce profits they will either adapt or change markets (Nintendo for example this generation).

If MS never entered this race you think Sony would have tried as hard? Would there even be a PSN? MS entering the race made everyone else take notice. MS became a force after one generation that says something.

Don't forget the fact that you're unable to cancel your Live subscription through the internet.

"Just a simple phone call with a representative to cancel" is more dubious than it sounds.

Considering Sony did a good job with the PS2 despite not having the competition then I would say yes. I would have rather seen any company but MS enter the console gaming race.

If you use the games supported by PlayOnLinux then it is easy if you are familiar with the Linux environment.

Agreed. In terms of compatibility and arguably ease-of-use, Windows 7 has no parallel.

That's why a ton of MacBooks/Linux computers have Windows dual-boots.

It's not a PC, it's an OS. You can install different OS on a PC. If all the resources of the OS are dedicated to the game then you would effectively have optimized use of resources like in a console but using PC hardware and with the capacity to upgrade the hardware. Lets just say PC gaming would probably advance several times faster than it does now because now it depends on basically one company developing an API at their own pace and with their own priorities inside a general purpose OS.

indeed pc gaming would be much better that way. WIndows will just slow your games down and cost you more money.

Microsoft isn't a cancer to gaming, they're just a cancer period. I've never liked them. Biggest milking company in the whole world, other than maybe Apple. They're both pretty equal in that regard TBH.

i got a ps3 and a wii mostly for gaming but i still use them for other things. Main reason why many hermits buy there rigs is for gaming.

and use it for nothing but gaming?

can we also address your comment about most of the 360's exclusives going to the pc?

Dude, you're under fire from a mod. Turn around slowly and walk away before he uses his powers and zaps you! :o

i never said it was never to be used for anything els your putting words in my mouth. what i was saying is gaming is the reason they made their rig. you dont buy a 6990 for microsoft word.

you said "just for gaming". but to the above, well obviously hermits are going to do that. what's the point in even mentioning it? now...what about your mythological statement about most360 exclusives going to the pc?

i love my 360, it is superior to all other consoles imo.

windows 7 is arguably the best OS ever created...i personally think it wins easily. name one better?

i also prefer wp7 over every other mobile device on the market.

but keep giving microsoft grief while sony makes you sign a waiver so you can never file a lawsuit against them regarding the psn, no matter what happens to you personal info.

yes, microsoft are the bad guys, nintendo and sony are saints that are only looking out for the interest of their customers...they never nickel and dime.

do you really believe that?

I don't think they are that great for gaming.

For example, while come they put Gears of War on the PC and not Gears of War 2. I am not going to spend $200 + $60 for Xbox Live JUST TO PLAY Gears of War 2 on blurry 720P crap with low as and anistrophic filtering when I could have played the same game on the PC with FULL HD 1080P with all settings set to max. It's like they make an half-a$$ed effort when it comes to gaming.

They put Halo 1 and 2 on the PC but not Halo 3.

They put Fable 1 on the PC but not Fable 2 but they put Fable 3.

Alan Wake was going to be on the PC but they turned it into a Xbox 360 exclusive. I would have love to have played another remedy game on the PC.

i went over this already this is just going in in cycles. most hermits already have computers to do every day tasks. they dont need 6 core an ssd and 6 gbs of ddr 3 for fire fox. they spend all of this money FOR GAMING. They can already do everything els.

this is the fourth time i've asked you about your statement regarding the 360 losing most of its games to the pc and you haven't said a single word. what are you doing? :|

I wouldn't say that.

They're terrible, but they're not hurting me because I simply don't buy their products. No one is forcing anyone to buy 360's or pay for Xbox live.

so your answer to them is to lock out all other functions and give them an OS only for gaming

I believe their business practices are a cancer to gaming but I keep buying from them because they publish Halo and Gears of War...until those games go multiplatform I will probably keep buying them, u can hate Microsoft, like I do, but those two series are pretty consistent.
