Like I said I don't really care enough to look anything up. Call it lazy or whatever but really don't care.

They never said it for the PS4 because the PS4 wasn't even being produced yet and by the time it was they decided they were going to charge. When the PS3 launched they said they'd never charge. Do people not realise that the only reason Sony is making stuff free is to soften the blow of "oh yeah you have to pay to play online now." Sony's entire strategy lately is just "appear as nice as possible" and it's working fine for them but it's not exactly going to give them monster profits which, let's face it, is what Microsoft care about.bobbetybob

its still a whole lot better than mSofts offerings.

Only for online multiplayer (but free to play games and some other games multiplayer , pay isn't required, its up to the dev). Also none of the party chat or netflix etc...is behine a paywall on ps4. Whats the kicker... Vita has skype and there is no charge for it.

How is Live required for the DVR though? :? That HAS to be (read: should be) a system level function, I can't believe they locked it behind Gold.

WHAT THE F**K you have to have gold for internet explore...Who in the history of the world would pay for internet explore, It doesn't stop there either. The one guide to access you TV behind the pay wall what the hell. I made a silly Joke just the other day saying that Xbox are so scabby that once you plug your digital box in they would expect you to pay to access you content...AGAIN WHICH YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR...and that's exactly what they have done. Never thought they would be that much of a scab. Skype as well...this is just getting sad beyond belief. Microsoft just shoves everything behind the pay wall to get as many people in to buying gold when there is no need to. Person A wants to use Skype...GOTTA PAY FOR IT DESPITE FREE ON EVERY OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICE IN THE WORLD. You know what there was a couple of things I wasn't keen on with the X1 but it was mainly the Kinect and it was just because I didn't want it and have to use or and pay for it when I know I would never use it. Now though they have treated their fan base and are just milking everything out of their fan base...If you like the X1 that's all cool, I wouldn't even spend £1 on this thing but for those who are fans of Microsoft...WHY? They are bending you over raping your consumer rights while stealing your wallet...Very disappointed with them, Saying that it doesn't bother me as I am getting a gaming PC and PS4 for next gen. Used my Laptop, PS3 and 360 this gen but defo ditching the Microsoft console this time round.

sending voice messages is a system function and yet Microsoft has always required Gold to send voice messages.

So, the argument coming from lems' side is that the main incentive to get gold is for multiplayer and that the other features don't really matter because you can use them for free on other devices and that you wouldn't pay live just for skype and ie. If that's the case, why put them behind paywall in the first place? Why not have them for free for tens of millions silver members to use? Nope, MS gotta be cheap again :lol: If that's lems idea of "getting more bang for your buck" then I feel sorry for them :?

You pay to play online but they have said it's because they are going to be updating their servers and they can't invest all this money into their network but keep online gaming for free. Sucks but atleast they were honest about it. But what are they keeping behind a paywal You can access the internet browser, and netflix you can even get playTV and not have to pay for a PSN+ subscription all of which require gold on the new X1...real classy Microsoft.

Each to their own. I have both a PS3 and a 360 and was hoping to hear good things from both. I though was really put of with the X1 conference enough for me to decide I will not be getting one, unless changes are made. If you liked what you saw that's all cool but for me I hated what I saw which is a shame because the console itself I liked but to many big negatives with the console for me to warranty a purchase of it. Saying that don't think either showed amazing console exclusive games. So shall be waiting later down the line to pick up a PS4, Never say never though that could change to a X1 but things would have to change for me. In the mean time saving for my gaming PC.

Makes no sense to me stuff like Youtube and Netflix require you to be a Gold member. Pay-to-play apps like Netflix especially. You're getting charged twice. And as far as Youtube goes why do I have to pay for it when it's obvious they don't want me using it anyway? Seriously, the thing is designed to discourage watching anything with it. Can't filter by length (My biggest complaint. Without this feature Youtube is basically worthless), can't save searches, etc. Then on top of the lack of features it crashes constantly.

There an interview where the PS+ requirment comes with the stipulation that online passes are gone, even third party. And there is a huge difference from playing multiplayer and EVERYTHING being locked behind a paywall.

Just curious why you're giving MS the cold shoulder this time around.

BS they said they'd never charge for online period. They said, as all cows did, that online should and will always be free. Stop pretending all you cows expected this. I remembe before the bomb dropped cows were still saying this BS.

EVERYTHING is locked behind a paywall on MS consoles. There is a distinct difference. On PS4, free-to-play games don't require PS+.

Earlier this year, I posted a few times that SONY should start charging for multiplayer to improve their online infrastructure. Quality isn't free so the E3 announcement was a good thing in my book. I know it's a flip flop and I don't like to be force fed through paywall. But realisically, it had to be done. If there was no revenue from it, then their online would suffer because they'd be looking to cut costs left and right and PSN would be the one of the first places they look.

Now, there is rumor that every online multiplayer game on XBone will have a dedicated server. My question is whether SONY will try something to this effect since they are putting multiplayer behind a paywall.

I would hazzard a guess and say that most early adopters of the X1 probably have a 360 with live already in which case this information is like saying the sky is stilll blue. Not a game changer.

You clearly haven't read any of my other posts I am far from a fanboy and own a PS3 yes but also a 360 and enjoy it very much. These are my opinions and only because I have them doesn't mean I am a fanboy. At the end of the day Microsoft hides things which you can access for free on the PS3 and other devices behind a paywall. That was my main focus of the post and that is entiley true and fact based not fanboy based.

I have both a PS3 and a 360 so at the moment I am paying for Xbox Live. Although before I still stand Xbox Live is a con only with the X1 is it worth the money IMO and that's because of the dedicated consoles. Before with the Xbox and the 360 nearly all games were P2P so you had to pay Microsoft for hosting the game on your own console, that is what i disproved of and still do. Only a few games used dedicated servers and even then it was paid by the developer or publisher. That was one of the main reasons why Sony didn't charge for online play becuase it didn't really need to as it was the player that hosted the match or the server was paid by someone else. Another example of Microsoft being cheap. Only this time round can I see the true worth in paying for Xbox Live and yeah you have to pay for the PS4 now but Sony has turned round and said that money is going to be used into updating their network most likely for gaming with dedicated servers as well and to those who says prove it and those which say they are just coping Microsoft Sony brought Gaikai which will be using dedicated servers for streaming games so Sony already has a large network set up using Dedicated servers. I don't think paying for Online gaming was worthwhile on either the PS3 or the 360 but at least people will get something for their money next generation and at least Sony didn't have the cheek to ask you to pay to host your own games on your own hardware this generation. Those are my views. Current Gen P2P on either console = Not worth paying Dedicated servers on next gen consoles = worth paying and that has always been my view.

I don't think anyone does!!! I don't know of anyone that has a satellite or cable subscription and a digital box to watch it through, Then hook it up to a third party device to then be told that you can no longer access your TV again unless you unplug it or pay us $50 each year for no reason. It is a con and uncalled for. At first I just didn't like the X1 even though I have a 360 but now I find myself hating Microsoft more and more.

I don't think anyone does!!! I don't know of anyone that has a satellite or cable subscription and a digital box to watch it through, Then hook it up to a third party device to then be told that you can no longer access your TV again unless you unplug it or pay us $50 each year for no reason. It is a con and uncalled for. At first I just didn't like the X1 even though I have a 360 but now I find myself hating Microsoft more and more.

You are acting as if this is the reason people have gold. People buy gold to play Xbox games online. The rest of these features are secondary. Yes they are trying to get more subscribers and make those who already subscribe feel like they are getting an added value for our money, but even if all these features were free and only online gaming was behind the wall, we'd still pay it because that's the feature we really want.

Oh yes they took online play hostage. And we have the lems to thank for this. These two consoles suck ass. You have any idea how much this online play crap increases the console prices?

Sigh. Still paying for Gold to use Netflix? Ugh. My BLURAY player plays netflix for free. Get real Microsoft.
