A Ford Escort cost less than a Bentley too :)

MBP_King

That doesn't make sens since you have the same PC for less...

Your example is 2 very different cars with very different specs.

The way OSX integrates with the hardware makes it very different from any other laptop I have used and I have 3 other laptops in my house.

Apple hardware is overpriced and underpowered. Mac OS X runs better on Dell or HP desktops, actually. Apple hardware looks nice (I guess), but is too expensive and slow.

I get any MS OS for free, we have volume licensing. :)

Who's We?

Bebi_vegeta

The company I work for, I am encouraged to install the latest OS on my personal machines so to better trouble shoot clients future issues that I may encounter. That's really brilliant, isn't it :)

I don't see how that is relevant to the argument MAC or Microsoft...

Mac user have to buy OS windows if they want to use it.

You said I had to buy Windows and that's not the case for me personally. Other users, yes, you will need to buy a OS to dual boot, but chances are they already have some version of Windows already. Some users don't need Windows and are perfectly fine without it, but it is an option.

I can barely find any advantage of a PC against a Mac. Mac is better in all aspects: stability, no viruses, less RAM usage, uses a lot less battery than Vista, etc. Mostly all the software that was windows exclusive is already in Mac, so the software compatibility is not an issue anymore. Besides, a Mac can run both OS at the same time without losing stability nor speed or anything. I use that and there are no problems, so I don't know how people criticize the lack of games in Mac. Besides, in a Mac every part of it is made by the same company under the sam brand, made specifically to work with each other and thus reducing significantly the so common errors of Windows. Yes, they're expensive, but are worth it. Mac OS is really the best OS that exits and Macs really are an excellent investment.

Yeah the Macs had far superior specs, but look at any user reviews or reviews period and you will see they are slower than their PC counterparts.

Look at Psystar's OpenMac - $599 (same as a Mac Mini), 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, 8400GS with 256MB... and then the OpenMac Pro is $1,150 and has a 3.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, 9500GT 512MB and both run Leopard better than Apple's hardware. If Apple had more customization and prices like those then a Mac would make sense.

How is windows XP and higher not stable by now?

Viruses is not even an argument anymore.

How much ram does OSX use?

I'm sorry, but you're paying for over priced hardware. If you play games, then why even buy a MAC?

I have absolutly no reason to buy a MAC, there's nothing I can't do on windows OS.

For production, Macs are superior, for gaming and everyday use, Windows machines are superior.

And for talking about the upgrading the ram to 8 gigs and costing 1000 bucks, who actually upgrades from the vendor instead of just buying from new egg and installing it themselves? lol seriously

Viruses is an argument. There is not any antivirus with a 100% efficiency and at this moment there are no threats for Mac, all have been eliminated. Besides, Mac uses an average of 3mb of ram, what about Vista? :)

A lot of the differences between OSX and Windows are subjective. People will always have their preference (for goodness sakes look at System Wars :P).

Some things, are not subjective, however. In terms of hardware flexibility, the winner goes to Windows and the custom PC crowd. But for software, it's impossible to beat the Mac ;)

That's why I'm a Mac guy. Hardware is boring. Software is where it's really at.

Windows is better for production.

Avid once announced they were going to discontinue their Mac support. It never happened but most Avid DS and Media Composer systems run on Windows.

Mac support for Maya is still a little bit dodgy. It's largely Windows (or Linux).

Shake used to run dramatically better on Wintel machines until Apple bought it and killed the Windows version.

3DsMAX only runs on Windows. If you took MAya, XSI and Houdini and combined all of their sales they still wouldn't sell as many copies as 3DsMax.

Lustre is Windows only, as well as Assimilte Scratch. ZBrush only recently got an OS X build.

TV stations run almost exclusively on Windows based Avid solutions. People who work in high-end professional film and video post production mostly use Windows (or Linux). Very few use Macs.

PC = its the king for games

Mac = Sound editing/film editing is much better on a mac (out of 100+ studios ive worked in/been in the past, 95% of them would use a mac to record for movies, games, commercials, music, etc..

It's not just the exclusive software, it's the flexibility and framework of the OS and the ability to run other operating systems simultaneously.

My MacBook Pro lets me work in OSX, Vista, Unix, Server 2003, and X11 at the same time. That means any and all software is available to me. That is something a custom-built PC box cannot do.

plus, i got mine through best buy, got the extended warranty so...i could throw mine down the stairs, then throw it in a pool, and be fine.

As for the CG programs, most serious render farms use Irix based SGI systems, and i know pixar uses macs. 3d studio max is popular but the majority of the copies of all the programs are pirated and not bought. Maya is 10 times better than 3dstudio max, lightwave is dead, Softimage XSI is like lightwave, and really used for lower end applications.

I use macs for Photoediting for when i do shots working with models, bands or soon...universal studios. Everybody around me uses mac because ofseamlessintegration, no worry of virii, application hangups, and just a better workflow. Just my opinion, nothing more ;P

Why not just put all the software on Vista and call it good? That way you don't have to switch back and forth between OS's. If the software is not exclusive, I don't understand why you can't do this.

What software do you use that is mac exclusive and is so much better than a windows based counterpart?

Apple Apertures batching for my shoots is unmatched. Lightroom is the counterpart to it, but aperture dominates it.

Aperture from what I've tried isn't that great, but what is Apple's answer to AutoCAD?

Why not just put all the software on Vista and call it good? That way you don't have to switch back and forth between OS's. If the software is not exclusive, I don't understand why you can't do this.TheDuffman26
Because not all the software runs under Vista. edit- and actually I don't switch anything, they all run at the same time.

The only reason why PC can't do... is because MAC won't let you boot there OS on anything else then MAC.

Actually the company is Apple. A Mac is the product the company Apple creates. People will take your argument more seriously if your terminology is correct. ;)

Now this I can understand, a hardcore photographer using a Mac. That's what I think of when I think of a Mac is a bunch of photo editing. But seriously, that's it.

That's an emulator, not natively. You have to use Windows to run it.

Actually, I regularly use my Macbook at work as an attorney. I do admit I have MS Office for Mac on it, but everything else on my Macbook is made by Apple. All I need is a word processor and digital photography storage for evidence in my line of work, and Leopard OS has an awesome way to search through files for documents, photos, videos, etc.

Well this was more of Mac Vs Window... OS wise argument... and all of sudden you pop out "I love safari", so I was wondering what's your point?

You can run it on a Mac and if you read the whole article you would know it's only a matter of time before they develop for Mac. Autodesk already makes applications for OSX so it's not a big stretch of the imagination.

I see where you are coming from, about the OS. My desktop is pretty much setup like a mac, I can browse through my most used files by just clicking on my tabbed dock right on my desktop. The only difference is that my PC is 20x more powerful than a mac, less expensive, can play the latest games and is compatible with most other software. I'm pretty sure if most mac users knew how to tinker with windows to get it more stylish and user friendly like their Mac they would go that route instead.

Many key Autodesk apps do not run on OS X. Even then, the Mac OS is inferior to Windows. And Apple hardware is just typical PC hardware, so I don't see what's so special about it, and why it's so expensive. As I said, Apple should have a mini-desktop (not Mac Mini but like a slimmer desktop) for $599-$1299 with Core 2 Duos/Quads/i7s...
