ok then, 3 o/s's including Server 2003 WITH a 0% load.

MBP_King

So basically you admit your Mac Toys are inferior compared to Windows?

I make my living working, repairing, upgrading and maintaining Window based systems. I have come to my own educated decision having worked with both extensively , that Mac OSX and the MBP are vastly superior to any Window based PC.

so why do all adobe application open in under half the time on a average core 2 based pc compared to a top of the line mac pro? why is safari such a bad browser? (sure ie sucks but not quite as bad as safari) why is a $5 hp keyboard better for typing on than the crappy mac keyboard? Why can't up upgrade a mbp without taking the whole thing apart? why no mouse back button browser support? why not right mouse button on a mbp that alone destroys the mbp's usability without a external mouse. Why are crashed apps harder to close compared to on pc? and why do apps crash or lock up far more often on macs? Why do I have to eject a flash drive if I don't want a annoying message coming up? why do I have to push a stupid button on the keyboard to open the cd drive? Why should I have to go and open the application folder for apps that aren't in the dock, that takes 5x as long as going into all programs on windows. I could go on all day, macs are pretty expensive boxes that don't work any better and often run slower.

[QUOTE="TheDuffman26"][QUOTE="MBP_King"] there are plenty of viruses on macs, plus when hacker tested each system, xp broke first osx second and vista lasted a day longer and linux lasted a day longer than vista. ie5 is more secure than safari, safari is the most insecure browser around. If apple had 90% market share there would be plenty of viruses for them. [QUOTE="0rbs"]

For production, Macs are superior, for gaming and everyday use, Windows machines are superior.

And for talking about the upgrading the ram to 8 gigs and costing 1000 bucks, who actually upgrades from the vendor instead of just buying from new egg and installing it themselves? lol seriously

MBP_King

And then you lose your warranty of your 3k MAcPro :(

compared to the warranty you don't have when u build your own computer? dumb argument

compared to the 3 year warranty standard on most pc components. hdds have 5 years, cpus 3 mobs 3 video cards 1-3

Well I do drafting (for school) so I require Windows, but when I had a digital arts class and we used Illustrator it was painfully slow, of course we used PowerPC G5s but if I were to be a photo editor I'd definitely use Windows....

theBeorn

good luck dealing with 500,000 pics a week with a slow batching system ;P

Ok, enough is enough. Let's do the math for this

500,000 photos a week. A Pro Photographer. Allright

500,000 photos a week means 71,428.57 pictures a day (500,000/7). That means 2976.19 pictures an hour for 24 hours for seven staight days. Ok, that means 49.60 pictures a minute. Yeah friend, right. So you're actually telling us that you take 50 pictures every minute for 24 hours, seven days a week? No, you can't tell us that, because you have to sleep at least 8 hours a day so, its 74.40 pictures a minute for 16 hours for seven days. But oh... well, no, let's just stop here.

That means you're taking AT LEAST 74 pictures a minute for 16 hours every day each of the seven days of the week. Without eating, without bathroom breaks without rest, without recharging batteries, without the camera stopping at all.

I dunno if i made wrong calculations, im kinda sleepy, but well, I'm gonna call you a liar on this. Unless of course you're talking about VIDEO which is 24 pictures per second, but that would make you a liar too, right? ;)

Never shot sports? i have a canon 1d mark III, it shoots 10 shots a second. So i can burst off 600 a minute. Do the math ;),plus i have more than 1 person working with me when doing sport events, so..i'm doing the editing for a few people, i was talking about batching which is editing a template for a large group of pictures upon import, btw...some nat geo people do a million a day by themselves, digital makes it easy to shoot a lot of pictures ;) and 500,000 is just an estimate, all i know is i go through terabyte externals like candy each week, until i delete all the garbage.

[QUOTE="AVIS93"]Mac are the only computers that don't need an antivirus. They can run both OS at the same time without problems so the argument of the lack of games is just invalid. Leopard is the best OS, but Windows XP is still good and quite stable. About Vista, well... just stinks.Teufelhuhn

Is Mac a type of computer or an OS? See you start out by saying "Mac's don't need anti-virus", which means you're talking about the relative lack of viruses for OSX. But then you say Mac's can run XP, which means you're talking about the hardware. So which is it? :)

Good question. Mac are the computers but the OS can also be called like that, but the name of the OS is Mac OSX Leopard. Thanks for asking.

Safari a bad browser? Have you even use it on a Mac? None of your points is a valid argument. Adobe applications are now windows based mostly, besides it depends on the computer you used. Crappy mac keyboard? The newest Mac keyboards are one of the most ergonomically designed and with a cool technology of keyboard light adjustment. There is mouse back button browser support (you can use any mouse you want on a Mac) and in a Macbook you can go back and forth between your sites by moving three fingers over the trackpad. Macs have right-click, you can do that by using any other mouse, by doing Command-click or in a Macbook by doing a click with two fingers. If in a Mac an app crashes (which has never happened to me) easy as selecting force quit in the app icon and it's done. Annoying message if you don't eject the flash drive? Do you know that if you remove the flash drive without ejecting it from any computer it can be harmed and thus losing all your data? Open a button to open the cd-drive and that disturbs you? Well, why do you even use a computer? Besides, in a "new" Mac (from 2 years ago or so on) you just insert the disc don't even need to push a button to eject it, can do it from Finder. About what you said about opening the apps, you can move them to the Dock or the desktop, simple as that. You don' even need to move to the Applications folder, just type the name of what you are looking for in Finder and that's it. I think that any normal user would have in the Dock the apps he uses most, but I see this is not your case, so you should do it. Macs do work better, it's proved to be the best OS.

"Mac" isn't an OS.

Anyway, my biggest issue with OS X is that it has such a tiny application library. Everything you can do on OS X can be done better on Windows, as Windows generally has a better library of applications for accomplishing ANY given set of tasks. (Final Cut Pro is basically ALL OS X has over Windows/Linux.)

I guess Macs are a good choice if you're completely clueless about computers and can't handle dealing with some of the more advanced aspects of Linux/Windows, but Macs are FAR from being the best option for everyone, like many Apple fanboys (such as yourself) try to make them out to be. There is no "best" operating system. There's only "best for what you're trying to accomplish."

i hope sony comes out with a platform for computers, because at least we will be confident of quality and reliabilityPS3Fanaddict
Not so sure about that. Remember, Sony is a hardware company. M$ is a software company. Sony coming up with an operating system would be scary. Building an an operating system that allows support for legacy devices and new devices over large span of products is very difficult. Apple is able to have a little more success because they have been "restricting" the hardware that can be used with their devices, thereby ensuring compatability.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, don't misunderstand me. I don't favor Microsoft nor Mac, I'm just giving my opinion based on my experiences with both of them and I currently own a Macbook with both Leopard and XP and run Windows in Leopard using Parallels Desktop and have no problems, so basically I have all the software and advantages of both OS in my computer, that is, in my opinion, an excellent option for people that do like Windows but want to try a Mac. The name of the current OS by Apple is Mac OSX Leopard, but I call it Mac for short. Actually, in my Macbook it refers itself as Mac OS, so yes, Mac is an OS.

Or you could just use Windows and not use OS X at all? What's the point of getting a Mac if you have to run Windows in parallel to use the applications you want to use

And again: no.."Mac" is a computer brand. "Mac OS" is the operating system, and "Mac OS X" is the latest version of said operating system.

I use that name for short, but if you just can stand it: I prefer Mac OS in my Macbook because I don't need to deal with the security problems of Windows, I like the look of Mac OS better and I find it a lot more stable and fast than Windows. I have Windows in my Macbook just for in cases I need to run a software that I can't use in Mac OS, which occurs rarely.

I would like to start of by saying that I think it is a matter of preference as to which you choose and both sides will argue to the death.

With that being said, the people saying "Macs are the best for everything but games" get real. As an engineer PC's are a must, as no one runs Solidworks, CAD, Spice, etc on an OSX based machine. Not even Apple runs those programs on macs and only do so on windows based machines.

Hah I forgot to say that the point of my whole post was that unless dictated by your profession (in which case you will know which you need) its more about what you feel most comfortable with.

Hardware - Custom hardware obliterates anything Macintosh.

Software - personally I rather XP simple due to it being able play games, run a huge variety of utilities and apps, its functions, flexibility and customisation. However I do know OSX is a good OS in its own right, however I feel as though it holds me back somewhat whenever I use it. I wonder how Windows 7 will change things. Problem right now is every application I need for work, socialising or play runs perfectly on my XP computer. I can jump between Maya 08, to Photoshop ,Premier, Corel Painter and Flash, then onto the Source SDK or Unreal Ed in a heartbeat.....

Either way im not fussed as far as software goes, I roll with what suits my purposes.

Hardware wise, I never pay the outrageous prices Apple demand for computers.

After using various Mac computers for roughly 5 years now, you couldn't be more incorrect. A one sided view like that? Whats the point of debating? Ignorance is ignorance.
