July was a solid month for Xbox 360. We dominated the E3 landscape, took home 11 Game Critics Awards and closed out a profitable year with $2.1 billion in growth in our Entertainment & Devices Division (Microsoft internal data).

How was July a solid month for the Xbox 360? They were outsold by the PS3 in that month and the month before that. I predict that 360 sales will slowly drop each month.

It's so amazing how these companies (well, I guess actually just Microsoft and Sony) damage control and skillyfully dodge the facts in front of them sometime.

Microsoft mentions G4 awards? To compensate for sales?

Anyway, I understand they have to spin some good news, but geesh do they have to make it so obvious. And Sony, I'm looking at you too. lol.

it outsold the ps3 in japan, and sony only beat it in NA by a mere 20,000 units, at that rate it will take sony 300 months to match to 360's install base

At this rate, it will take Sony 300 months to catch the 360 but the 360's sales will start decrease. People aren't going to keep buying the same console are they? Microsoft will start to run out of people to actually sell the 360 to as more and more people buy one.

Still doesn't matter, They had a price drop n still couldn't outsell the Ps3 in their own home. Ps it outsold the Ps3 1 week it Japan/ You guy foget the Ps3 it outselling the 360 worldwide now !! So 20,000 here may be 95,000 in another plus the 360 just got a price drop so u would expect it to be 360 by 95,000 + but the Ps3 still outsold it LoL

Statements like this baffle me, you really think neither system will rise or fall in sales dramatically? And once again, 360 outsold Ps3 for one week only if I'm correct.

As long as the PS3 has Blu Ray, people will try to play that card. Sure, there's probably more than handful of people out there buying it as a Blu Ray player only, but it's no coincidence that PS3 software sells are rising as the install base does.

um...maybe you should look at how poor blu-ray stand-alone player sales are, its fairly obvious. HD-DVD players outsold Blu-ray ones before HD-DVD died off.

Besides, Blu Ray sells arent doing that well anyway as it is. But sure, if you want to think the PS3 outsold the 360 in July because it's a Blu Ray player go ahead. But I'm sure the MGS4 bundle had a little more to do with it than a Blu Ray player.

Ya know that music in the old Road Runner and Coyote cartoons? The one where the Coyote would like run off a cliff, and then that trumpet music would start to signal his epic fail?

That's the music I just heard in my head, lol.

well it is a completely new media format so people will obviously take some time to make the jump. But i am thinking more of the ps3s sales this gen, not just these results which MGS4 will of had a fairly large impact on.

Also do you not think the software sales may have risen because of the lack of decent games the ps3 has had until now?

But you have to admit by the way the ps3 outsold the 360 in 07 its sales have been pretty warped because of blu-ray.

Also your sig is freaking me out, its like shes waiting for me to reply.

That was some strong Damage Control MS. I mean really, it seems like a typical response you'd get from a fanboy on system wars.

Interviewer: How do you explain the low par sells even though the 360 had a price drop?

M$: Well, we had the best E3 so it all evens out.

It's just too funny.

They have slacked off for too long now, and practically are letting Sony catch up. They think it's fine since they got a couple of big name games comming up, but what they need to do is bring their A game and sharpen their knife if they want to stay ahead.

lol I lol'd at your comment about my sig.

Anyway, I dont think think the sells of COD4, Resistance, Motorstorm, or Uncharted on the PS3 in 2007 is enough to say that just now PS3 sells are starting to pick up because the PS3 is just now getting good games. As the PS3 install base grows, so does the software sells.

I'm not a market analyst, and niether are you (as far as I know, lol) so who knows. I just think the Blu Ray player card gets thrown around mainly when it's convenient. I just highly doubt that 20,000+ people bought a PS3 over the 360 in July because they wanted a Blu Ray player.

Now... Ellen Page waits for you to reply. :|

It wasn't a real price drop though.....a real price drop would have been marketed like crazy. Come Sept when they really do a price drop for all their sku's and actually have commericals for it, you'll see a surge in sales then. Now will that go past Sept and continue to surge in Oct-Dec......maybe not. I mean the Arcade sku is almost the same cost as the Wii right now (a $30 differnce I think) and it has done really nothing for MS. Something drastic has to happen besides another price cut to get people intrested in X360 again.

[QUOTE="Blue-Sky"]You don't have to be the best selling to be successful. You guys act as if anything below #1 is not beneficial.Lionheart08

It's not the fact that 360 is #1 in sells, it's the fact that it didn't have a surge in sells after a price drop.

What price drop?

"Microsoft will start to run out of people to actually sell the 360 to as more and more buy one."

Wow, you just killed system wars.

Ellen Page...

I was confused because if you were referring to her I thought you woulda said "with HER name" and not "with YOUR name".

It's all good though. Ellen Page ftw.

And werent both sales pretty abysmal? Werent there alot of people saying digital distribution would take off before Blu Ray?

Besides, Blu Ray sells arent doing that well anyway as it is. But sure, if you want to think the PS3 outsold the 360 in July because it's a Blu Ray player go ahead. But I'm sure the MGS4 bundle had a little more to do with it than a Blu Ray player.

carljohnson3456

well it is a completely new media format so people will obviously take some time to make the jump.

Also your sig is freaking me out, its like shes waiting for me to reply.

lol I lol'd at your comment about my sig.

I don't really think sales can be used to label the ps3 as a more popular 'games console'. But I haven't looked at bluray movie sales which may give more of an insight into how the ps3 keeps outselling the 360 everywhere (though it's probably just a more popular console, considering the success of the ps2 and not RRODing constantly).

I just think it's a shame the 360 hasn't done better considering the games its offered since release. I think I'm done, Ellen Page is looking more bored by the minute.

I dont by any means think the PS3 is the more popular console just because of these numbers. It's a pretty dead heat at this point. Heck, the 360 just outsold the PS3 in Japan by 15,000 units. It's pretty crazy, but stiff competition is good for us consumers, lol.
