if they wanted a price cut they would have done it at gears 3 considering it was probably their biggest game this year.

more thanlikely hope microsoft gets smart and drops the systme officially to 150 and 250.
Edit: Infact they need to drop the price of the 360 to 150 on the base model and 250 on the hard drive model then drop the price of the kinect to 50 bucks.

I think the PS3 will probably pass 360 by next year worldwide sales, even though MS is probably exactly where they want to be in. MS seems happy dominating the NA market and having a good market in EU, they could have done a price drop but did not (how many years has it been since a real 360 price drop?), and they were the only ones to make money out of their gaming division. Sony is doing great globally, although they're still struggling with the NA market, they're still posting losses though so it's not been an easy road for them. Nintendo is just going downhill now and the WiiU cannot get here soon enough for them, let's hope they've had time to make some software for it because their WiiU E3 lineup was non-existant.

I see the 360 only getting a price drop if they're outsold in NA for at least two consecutive months. They've given up on Japan and retailers are beginning to stop stocking the 360 at all, while they're comfortable being outsold in continental Europe.

They probably also get most of their LIVE Gold money from the US, and the US is more demographically similar to the target audience of the games most associated with the system.

lets see 1 they haven't given up on japan. 2 like one retailer was stepping back stock otherwise it was a bunch of disinformation from a known biased website picked up by actual proper sites. *I believe the one we aren't allowed to post cause it has alot of hentai ad's*

I meant to say "virtually given up", but they might as well give up on Japan, regardless. It's currently competing against the PS2 week-by-week.

If the story is bogus then that's fine. But I read it on IndustryGamers who gave the source as EDGE. So does this EDGE story derive from that site with lots of hentai ads?

It shouldn't be bogus. MS can appeal to Japan all they want, but they'll never capture Japan. They simply don't know how. The 360 gets beat by the PS2 ffs.

Fun fact: The PS2 has sold about as much, after the start of this generation of consoles, as the HD twins have.

It shouldn't be bogus. MS can appeal to Japan all they want, but they'll never capture Japan. They simply don't know how. The 360 gets beat by the PS2 ffs.

ChubbyGuy40

I can't find how the story's at all linked to the site with lots of hentai ads.

But there was a response to the article from MS's Chris Lewis about them not pulling out of Japan.

That's doesn't really discredit the notion that Japanese retailers may not want to have the 360 on their shelfspace anymore.

Good PS3 numbers, better than I expected. 'Grats Sony.

Nintendo worries me. I just don't see where they are going to go over the long run. All of these gaming devices are going to be interconnected multi-entertainment devices. Sony can leverage its other h/w business and its movie studio for content. MS can leverage its software and networks business. Nintendo does not seem to have a sustainable business model on the h/w side.

Generations are not determined by hardware power. They are determined by the release period, hence why the Wii is a current gen console.

LOL You do realize wii won this gen so plenty of ppl wanted it over ps3/360. Could happen again if microsoft and sony don't step their game up. Wii u will be 8th gen just as wii was 7th gen.

Considering they just shipped 1.4 million units more than the 360 in 3 months, a 2.1 million gap hardly seems unbridgeable if they had a very strong holiday season.

(Whether or not they will, I have no idea).

We officially end the generation here. If you want to keep a tally and keep it going, there's no problem. It'll just determine who officially won the System Wars at that time (though I don't think we etch it in stone or anything :P).

Yup. Lets see how well sony does in oct-december. I'd say massive numbers. I was telling you earlier that ps3 was gonna eat severely into the lead this quarter. Either ways. If it was not for kinect ps3 woukd be ahead of 360 WW right now. Microsoft was smart to release it.

I find that really silly, though, especially if no one else is even releasing a new console. Let's presume Sony and MS actually meant it when they talked about a 10 year lifecycle -- such rules would ultimately benefit the one system that failed to last as long as its competitors, the Wii.

The PS2 hadn't even hit 100 million units when the 360 was first released. Sales of old systems can remain very strong long after a new 'generation' begins; especially, it seems, Sony systems.

In my opinion, the most successful hardware is the one with the most units shipped when it is officially discontinued.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Still, the issue arises with a simple question. If the gen doesn't start at the release of the first console, do the sales, until the competitors release their consoles, count? I guess we could have seperate ending/beginning times for generations.

I'm not outright disagreeing. You bring up some good points. I think this was just the easiest way to make the competition "fair" with regards to how SYstem Wars works. Who knows, there could be a better way :P

November 2012. This quarterly report is from a period ending September 30th, meaning there's more than a full year from then to when Nintendo is likely to release the Wii U.

thats what im saying a year and a few months is not enough to ctch up to the 36o imo

the gen is over so this whole 1st 2nd and 3rd place bs is irrelevent thats the difference it makes

It still seems like an arbitrary cut-off to me. What Nintendo does is totally irrelevant to the 360 and PS3 install base competition. And the PS3/360 will be going head to head against the Wii U on both hardware and software, at least for a while, "next-gen" system or not.

Heh, this to me is indicative of the silliness about how we count hardware: if the PS3 does amazing over the period of 2012-2014, and the Wii U does mediocre over its first 2 years, when Sony finally releases a PS4 in 2014 everyone will talk about Sony's huge gap compared to the Wii U and how they suddenly lost market share.

Eh sales.

I just hope they all make enough money to be able to continue what they're doing. (Maybe not so much MS lol)

[QUOTE="Mario1331"]

[QUOTE="SakusEnvoy"] What difference does that make, though? When the Wii U releases, we officially stop counting all hardware besides the Wii U?

they are all in the same gen it should be a cut off right after the nex system of a company comes out thats really the only fair way to judge the winner of a gen, this wasnt a problem when the ps2 came out.

whoever judges the wiiu to the ps4 if it released early is silly you got to give them time to judge them since next gen is going to be very unorthodox. i see where your coming from but it shouldnt matter who came in 2nd or 3rd when and if sony does come in second after the iiu release how much ownage is that it took sony a whole gen to leap to 2nd place?

doesnt seem logical to me

PS3 is sitting nicely and comfortably, really not surprised with the plethora of quality exclusives out.

I really don't see the logic with Sony fanboys. The PS3 took 5 -6 years to catch up to the 360 which was supposed to destroy it within the 1st year. They went from the most dominent console ever to being a 2nd 3rd place console. How is that sitting nice and comfy? If anything the real winners are Nintendo and MS for doing what noone thought could be done, dethroning Sony. Seriously 6 years into this gen it doesn't matter if Sony does eventually pass MS, the damage has been done. MS stole major market share and more than doubled it's console sales from the previous gen. Sony went backwards so IMO that's NOT sitting nicely or comfy.
