Sheesh. What's up with all the Miyamoto hate. If he believed '09 wasn't fun enough, then let him believe it. And I'm pretty sure he was reffering to THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY not just Nintendo.I had fun this year. And what's wrong with Wii Music. I never really understood why people hate it so much. I actually like it (maybe because I'm a musuician). I find it pretty cool for kids who wan't to learn about musical instruments. And if memory serves me correct, I do remember seeing a video of Miyamoto and several other Ninty execs showing off Wii Music to a Japanese kindergarten class. So don't claw at his neck because he has a different opinion than you. Just calm down, take a deep breath, and play some games. That's all.

I humbly disagree with Mr. Miyamoto, though 2009 was pretty lackluster, all in all.

I played quite a few fun games last year... but I can see if he were referring to Nintendo's offerings how he could be right. Such a massive drought. I find it odd how they've designed the release schedule to put every one of their three best games all in the same year, instead of spreading them out over the three-year span and getting one a year or every 8-10 months.

For sure nintendo games have been going down hill since N64. N64 just had soo many entertaining games that you could play for literaly years and still have a blast, even if they weren't rated highly. Im talking about mario kart 64, Super Smash Bros (Original >>>>>ALL sequels) Golden Eye, Revenge. Heck even mario party was great. Back then nintendo just had soo much passion in their games, you could feel it when playing them......now the games just feel dead.

Honestly, I'd have to agree with him. There was very little from last year that I found to be really all that fun.

DarkLink77
2009 lackluster? Not a chance....2009 saw the releases of some great games: Killzone 2 Infamous Resident Evil 5 Uncharted 2 Demon Souls (Gamespot GOTY) Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 God of War Collection Ratchet and Clank Future a Crack In Time Dragon Age Origin Sacred 2 Batman AA Skate 2 Genesis Ultimate Collection Need for Speed Shift Riddick Dark Athena/Butcher bay remake Katamari Forever Street Fighter 4 Blaz Blu Tekken 6 At least these were the games I got all great games!!(notice no mention of modern piece of crap rehash 2) Let alone the PSP/DS/ and Ipod touch games I got last year 2009 was year of the PS3 it had the best software lineup of all. And it was the year I sold my wii ....so maybe he is right that Nintendo games were not fun in 2009!!! Miyamoto is getting senile or something in his old age. Time to be put in a "promotion" like Sony did with Kutaragi, you get too old and start getting senile your no longer in touch with reality and what gamers want. Your mind starts disintegrating to that of a young child....hmmm .... .wii music anyone? j/k..... IMO ... Nintendo hasn't been great since 8bit / 16bit era. with the NES/Snes and its great 3rd party support.

This is ironic coming from a Nintendo developer, because the Wii has been by far the worst offender in the game quality department.

Then he obviously hasnt played MW2, Uncharted 2, and Left 4 Dead 2. Maybe they are too mature for him?

a handful of games is not the same ratio of how many games are actually release that should have had the potential of games you just named

Most people seem to be listing good games from 09, stating that they had a fun year, or trying to talk about how poor nintendo is. I'm not sure most of you even went beyond the topic title essentially taking this "quote" out of context.

Miyamoto was asked about lower game sales of the industry in 09 from 08. He didn't say 09 was a bad year, or that there weren't awesome games in that year.

well, i think that miyamoto has a point. It seems like last gen was about going all out, and it really was a step above the gen previous in every category. This gen is more about polishing up and improving on last gen and we've lost something in the translation. Case in point: GTA4 vs. Vice City. GTA4 was superior in many ways, but there is something very important that was diminished. It wasn't as fun. That's just one series, but it is supposedly one of the pillars of the industry

"I think it is obvious that when everyone is connected online, there will be enormous opportunity for me to create something really unique," Miyamoto said. "But my job is to try to entertain as many people as possible, and I see all Wii owners as the audience. Of course, we have Mario Kart, which can be played online by multiple people. So we are gradually expanding the experiences using the Internet, but my own personal focus is to try to entertain people, even if they are not connected to the Internet. That is my first priority."

I wish every dev was like this... maybe we wouldn't have games with 4 hours campaigns and what not.

I think Miyamoto is right, both 2008 and 2009 sucked. There were a few great games sprinkled in, but not much else to write home about.

2010 seems much more promising, especially for Nintendo. They pretty much dropped the ball for the last 2 years in terms of games for the Wii. They didn't spread their releases out like the should have, Mario Kart and Smash Bros came out within a month of each other. Things are looking up though with Metroid Other M, Super Mario Galaxy, and most likely Zelda for this year. I'm extremely interested to see the 3DS, I think it is going to blow away the competition AKA PSP.

I don't know why the hell Nintendo promoted Miyamoto; he is best suited designing games, not managing people. It's like making Einstein a supervisor or something, that isn't why he is useful.

Oh man, that game got GOTY, oh man this means my experience will be enhanced! What makes you think i care what game gets GOTY? That doesn't change the fact, that i still play halo 3 with my friends to day 3 years after it's release, while i sold SMG with my wii almost 2 years ago.

I have had the most fun with my DS because of the interactive touch games.

Not so much with the Wii because of the game library.

I think they've changed, even if not to that extent, many major franchises are lost completely, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Kirby, all had amazing titles in the past, whats going on now?

Those dont sell like the Wii Fits, Wii Sports and Mario Karts do. Look at Metroid Prime 3 and Trilogy sales, and it becomes pretty obvious why they have abandoned those franchises.

I disagree. The only part of Nintendo that ISN'T a shell of it's former self is it's handheld division.

This is what I've been saying, Nintendo has got to take care of the Wii audience.

Thats why we have at least three AAA-calebre first party games scheduled to be released this year. Also a couple years ago Metriod 3, SMG and Brawl were all released within 12 months of eachother. Nintendo just hasn't been spacing thier games up enough :P

Games don't have to be AAA in order to be fun. Heck, review scores are meaningless

[QUOTE="110million"][QUOTE="Willy105"] They haven't really changed, at all. Well, Nintendo of Japan hasn't. Nintendo of America is definitely a shell.h575309

'abandoned'? i dont know about those other franchises, but isnt a metroid game coming out soon?

I love the way half the posters on SW assumes this board makes up the vast majority of gamers, get it into your heads you are a minority and most gamers don't care enough to even look things up on the internet let alone go on a forum to argue about it. When Miyamoto made these comment he was refering to the industry as a whole and all gamers, not just a few elitists.

He said "those franchises" like the ones I mentioned in my post, point is, not even metroid can sell like casual crap, so who knows, maybe they'll eventually phase it out like those other great franchises.

He has made games far better than Halo. Never saw what was such a big deal with that statement, other than striking the nerves of the Halo worshippers.
