Ratchet and Clank (13 million)
Good post on Worldwide sales. I was just wondering where SER69 got his numbers from. And everyone in the industry has heard of Ratchet and Clank. Miyamoto was flat out lying when he said that. Even my wife knows about Ratchet and Clank and she has zero interest in games.
SER69 sales was US only sales http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164480EDIT: in the first-month

I had seen Ratchet and Clank as in the characters not knowing thier names but didn't know who they were until I started coming to GS.Epic..... burn. What was considered to be Marios greatest platforming rival this generation went completely unnoticed by Miyamoto. That is laugh out loud hilarious.
SER69 sales was US only sales http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164480flashattackfinaSo, R&C barely even sells in the states? How does it sell in Japan?
[QUOTE="ff7isnumbaone"]cause hes a damn liar. Hes heard of it.JandurinWhy? I'd barely heard of it before I came here. And I'd only popped it into a PS2 for a few seconds. If my girlfriend's stepbrother hadn't owned it, I may never have heard of it.
I may have looked at it from time to time...But untill I came on here I never really new anything about the game. I don't know anyone who ever played it before the PS3 demo.
And yes for anyone that wants to know I own a PS1 and a PS2. The game is just not as big has many people think.

Does that mean Europe buys millions of Ratchet and Clank? That's weird.
Europe bought a lot of Transformers, too.

They also bought "Imagine being mum" :x
lol, he just owned them
there's a chance he has heard of R&C, and said that he hadn't just to own them
but there are so many games, and he only has so much time .. he won't know about all games
and being Japanese, he'll be more aware of games that sell well there
R&C isn't really a global mega-franchise is it? at least it isn't in my opinion
Umm, let me quote those sales.
"First-month performance for the entire Ratchet & Clank series, provided by the NPD Group, is as follows:
# Ratchet & Clank (November 4, 2002) -- 112,000 units
# Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (November 11, 2003) -- 125,000 units
# Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (November 3, 2004) -- 207, 500 units
# Ratchet: Deadlocked (October 25, 2005) -- 55,300 units
# Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (October 30, 2007, though released in most retailers early) -- 74,500 units"
Epic fail.
R&C got be popular in japan it even got it own manga
manga of Ratchet and Clank named Ratchet & Clank: Bang Bang Bang! Critical Danger of the Galaxy Legend (ラチェット&クランク - ガガガ!銀河のがけっぷち伝説, Ratchet & Clank - Gagaga! Ginga no Gakeppuchi Densetsu?) was serialized starting on February 2004 in the Bi-monthly Edition of the Japanese magazine, CoroCoro Comic. It is drawn by Shinbo Nomura, and is currently still being published.
The first volume containing the first 12 chapters was released on November 28th, 2005. The manga is currently only available in Japan.

flashattackfina
blue dragon has its own manga and anime over at japan.
it's pretty hilarious though
Interviewer: What do you think of the insomniac claiming ratchet and clank was the inspiration for Galaxy?
Miyamoto: what the hell is ratchet and clank?
I'm pretty sure that miyamoto got the idea from this:
behold King Kai's planet from dragonball z
a lot of japanese video game developers have a lot of love for both dragonball and dragonballz. Remember that Akira toriyama invented the idea of shooting power from wrists, which capcom promptly used in street fighter.
If you play galaxy there are obvious planets that are references to king kai's planet. There are some challenges where I used the strategy that Goku used to catch Bubbles (the monkey). I mean that literally too. I was like 'why dont I just do what Goku did!'

As he corrected, those are only first-month sales. I think those games have pretty good legs.

is there anyhting that doesnt have a manga or an anime in japan?
The Japanese are very Xenophobic, so it's not surprising that a Japanese person would have never heard of a game developed and produced by an American company. This is why the Xbox 360 doesn't sell well over there.
Spindoc_SEI
That is not true and is a common misconception of the Japanese. The reason the Xbox 360 and its predessor did poorly in Japan is that Microsoft did not understand Japanese consumer culture which is different from North America and Europe.
[QUOTE="Rikusaki"]Maybe he got his idea form this:
These are all screenshots from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
HarlockJC
1st he already said he not heard of R&C
2nd he stated that before that he does not play many video games to begin with
Well, hes obviously lying because you are wrong.
People should probably realize that Shiggy in all most likely cases doesn't care what the competition does. All those years when Sonic went head to head with Mario did Shiggy one time take anything from Sega Sonic to a game changing effect?
Shiggy doesn't care about what everyone else does. His hand in the creation of the Wii is proof of that. He only cares about his vision. His vision doesn't involve others ideas it involves things more like walking in his Garden and um wierd crap like that.
Blackbond
No, that was Pikmin actually which was inspire by his garden.

Your logic is flawless...well except for the fact that in interviews before Shiggii has mentioned that he does not play video games much and yeah that N64 had a Mario demo that had Mario running around on a sphere...dunno you might wanna look into...you know...facts...?Maybe he got his idea form this:
These are all screenshots from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
Rikusaki
Or maybe from prior experiments that culminated in the game itself, beginning after the production of Super Mario 64?
Like Miyamoto, I too didn't know what's Ratchet and Clank. But that was until I joined Gamespot and heard about it.Kev_Unreal
Ditto....I own well over a 1000 video games. Before the demo at Gamestop I had no idea what R&C were about. I did not even know what they looked like. Besides maybe screens on here.
To be honest it's like asking a member of the Led Zeppelin "Oh, have you head about this band called My Chemical Romance?" To which they reply, no I havent.
SW would say: OH LORD!? You guys aresoooo full of yourself...
its more likely for miyamoto to have seen the game than to know the name.... if they showed him a picture of ratchet then he'd say... oh that game... He probably hasnt played any of the games and didnt know one of the had spheres.....
Anyways.... super mario128 demonstration in 2000 had spheres.... that is 2 years before ratchet....
Imsoniac couldnt have honestly believed that miyamoto was inspired by their games... maybe what they meant was something more like great minds think alike??
