It is not uncommon that writers and developers are not allowed to do certain things. For example, Disney's writers are not allowed to read fanfics. Nintendo does not accept game suggestions, but they do accept requests.

Also, Insomniac is a U.S. developer, and not many U.S. games are great in Japan. Different worlds of opinions.

I think Miyamoto is pretty sheltered from the rest of the gaming world. A bit like Team ICO who apparently had played barely any games before they made ICO.

However, he can say "lol, I dont know them" and "I had this idea in N64 days" as much as he wants. The fact is Insomniac produced and delivered the idea of spherical worlds in a platformer long before Miyamoto did. Therefore they should be credited with the creation of the idea. Still, they never really dared to take it as far as Miyamoto did.

hes quite obviously a liar, hes just to up himself to admit he got inspriation from ANYWHERE this is what i hate about nintendo, they make great gmes then have to on about how they are totaly original. he got the idea from somewhere and sphereical worlds have featured in the R&C universe (i love the little fuzzy guy!) so unless he's been locked in a bubble for 10 years he will have seen them. god this guy is so up himselfthegoldenpoo

Agreed.Miyamoto is so obsessed with his own overated legend that he can't admit it. Ratchet and Clank was an amazing game when it came out and it smashed Mario Sunshine into the ground, There's no way the frog-lookalike missed that...

Well no matter how the cows spin this, the fact remains that Insomniac got pwned hard publicly. I wonder if they will respond or just keep quiet and hope the whole thing goes away.

Old thread.

I find it hard to believe Ratchet and Clank actually sold 13 million copies into the hands of consumers, and not retail shelving.

13 million would earn them a spot on the best selling franchises list, just below Metroid. I find that extremely hard to believe.

Whats more likely, is that Insomniac used shipped numbers in the press release, becuase Ratchet has never been one of the bigger titles on ps2. People don't go to gamestop to buy Ratchet, they go to GS to buy a gem, and pull Ratchet out the bargain bin as an impulse buy title.

Only on ps3 has a title as middle of the road safe like Ratchet, been bigged up to be a monster mover, and we saw how reality dealt with the hyerbole.

The majority of the world doesn't play games, let alone is it involved with the gaming industry. He's in the industry, he should be familiar.

After this, I can only think of two things:

Either Miyamoto is Damage controlling, or Isomniac got owned lol

Insomniac Games said a while back that it was "flattered" that the spherical worlds of Mario Galaxy were inspired by Ratchet and Clank.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK asked the father of Mario what he thought about Insomiac's comments in a recent interview, to be published in the next issue (Issue 25).

Miyamoto said he was "surprised" by Insomniac's comment. "In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity," he went on to explain, "we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64."

"It's not an idea we got from anywhere else," adds Miyamoto, before adding: "I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?"

Miyamoto learns from no-one.

It's amazing how this thread turned into a "let's hate on Insomniac", just because they are PS only devs. Goes to show how lacking the general fanboy populus of System Wars is. Hell I bet if Insomniac was a Nintendo only developer they would exonerated of their comments, people would use common sense and say "Heck maybed they just didn't know?".

No, i'm not.

Ratchet didn't get the four page spreads in GameInformer, Gamepro or EGM. For me, i couldn't tell the difference between this series and Metal arms/small arms,(sp?) due to how generic they looked.

MGS, GTA, FF, GOW, SOTC, OKAMI, DMC, RE, Those were the monster titles that got insane coverage from the press.

Sly Cooper, Jak and Dexter, R&C.....These were the Sony branded platformers, which while good, didn't exactly set the world on fire(only Jak can make any such claim.)in terms of moving units.

People have said it for a while now all over the internet.

R&C looked most appealing as a 20$ greatest hit in the bin.

The pressure put on it as a ps3 game was way more than it ever had to deal with on ps2.

Let's see, Sonic Adventure had a spherical level with multiple planets and it was in space (much like Mario Galaxy). That was before Ratchet... Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island had a boss fight where you maneuver around a spherical moon fighting a giant Penguin. Not only did Nintendo think of this before Insomniac, Sega did as well.

Insomniac = owned.
