Because it would not be a Zelda game

See that ladies and gentelmen is the exact problem the entire industry has. The "if it ain't broke don't fix it" or the "change is bad" motto is what is holding the industry back from trying new things and gives clear indication for companies to make the same game over and over again. (See Mario and Zelda)
Imagine in a first person Zelda game you're playing as Link and its the final boss battle fight Ganon (again) but instead of tapping the A button you become tangled up in such an epic sword fight it would make a hollywood coreographer jealous. If Nintendo announced a first person Zelda game with Wii Motion + I think I would be VERY tempted to buy a Wii just for that game. It would be so epic, it would be the perfect redesign of a classic tired series to make it feel fresh, new, and exciting again.
zelda would suck as elderscrolls oblivion, just as oblivion sucked as oblivion. as for the "problem" holding back mario and zelda, each mario and zelda has been redone keeping only the core elements. mario will always be a platformer, and zelda will always be an adventure game where you are link. that is about all they have in common. hell aside from SMG2 and gameboy zeldas to SNES zeldas they get reworked just about every time. i hate how people try to say both mario and zelda games are rehashes when they are far more original then just about any franchise or sequals out thereSo Zelda wouldn't be Zelda in First Person but Zelda is Zelda despite the fact that isn't a top down view of the world like the origonal? I'm not saying Zelda would become Elder Scrolls, it could and probably would be the same Zelda people love but from the first person....
